I'm glad people recognize that Avernus is a genius. Okay, he's a bastard as well but hey, I'm willing to ignore that if it means I can control the taint.

Also, I've had the idea of them going by the Keep to pick him up on the way to the final battle at Denerim, he 'is' a Warden, so he could take the last blow.  (provided he was physically able of course) But I'm not sure yet.  Still wresting with the idea.

Alistair is thinking about it.

Also, provided Avernus was altruistic enough, which I'm not sure he is.

Finding the joining cup should have had a strong interactive cutscene, rather than be a generic gift (that was just weird)

Agreed.

I don't know, I liked RtO a lot and while I see that there was so much potential to turn everything into an emotional moment, I can see why the developers wouldn't want to make the whole thing into a tissue-fest. I do agree that some of their choices as to what to focus on vs other things is sometimes a little headscratch-inducing.

Thing is, given what happened there, returning would have been a tissue-fest. It should have at least been touched on, particularly for Alistair.

I definitely agree that they made a mistake by just making the Joining cup a gift. Heck, there's a white amulet available in there somewhere that elicits the exact same reaction. That's just wrong. I'm guessing, though, that in not making the whole episode a tissue-fest, the developers are trying to make a concession to those who don't like Alistair or the emotional bits in general but would still like to play RtO for the extra gear, the extra XP, and the opportunity to kick some Darkspawn ass.

Ahh! What does Wynne say
in that case? I have never done the Circle quest before Warden's Keep,
not to mention that from now on Wynne will always die or stay in the
tower, so I doubt I'll ever see what she says.

Does Avernus have some witty comeback for her?

She really rips into you for doing it, but then I think you can tell to butt out, she has no say in GW buisness. I'll check exactly how it goes when I get home later.

You mean altruistic enough to help you with the taint?  In his own twisted way, he is trying to help the Wardens become more powerful.

He and the Architect would be great pals.

No, someone was talking about having Avernus take the final blow against the Archdemon for you and even if he is nearing the end of his life I'm not sure that he would do that.

Oh, right.  Can't see him doing that.  He is, as Sophia found out, a "live to fight another day" kind of guy.

But what reason would he have for refusing? Just out of spite? I bet he could be Persuaded. . . :innocent:

He would refuse because he considers his magical research more valuable than the life of one puny Warden such as yourself, and since he's managed to resist the Calling thus far, he probably has a few years in him.

True story. . .but I already Persuaded him to continue his research without human subjects, which in his opinion makes it nearly worthless anyway. :P

Alistair says, "Please don't make me make demon babies with Morrigan. . ."

Well, I did say I was still arguing with my self about using Avernus to take the final blow.  I probably won't go that route, as I have another idea about that whole bit.  Haven't got there yet anyways, I'll wait to see how the new DLC turns out storywise before going too much that way.

He'll say that he's going to do that even if you don't use the Persuade.  I think he realizes his days would be numbered if he started using Levi and Co. for blood magic victims.

Oh, does this mean we're going to get more information on the mysterious tainted mirror from the DE origin? That always felt a little...unexplained to me and it looked just like the one that Dalish woman was talking about. In fact, I almost thought it was that one until they mentioned conclusively that one disappeared (Tamlen) and the other died (for non-DE Wardens).

I never spare Avernus. If they can get a cure from his notes, and without using blood magic, fine, but he deserves to die for murdering the wardens. If Loghain's crimes are unforgivable, which to me they are, then Avernus's are worse--except for the regicide thing. The fact the he might help the warden(s) would be letting a murderer and blood mage go unpunished for personal gain. Also, he can't be trusted. He clearly has no regrets about what he did, and handing over a cure would make him unnecessary. He wouldn't want that.

I did not buy the Warden's keep DLC (I might do so when I get Witch Hunt), but from what I've read, I would spare Avernus and let him continue his valuable research. And keep an eye on him once King Consort.

Good thing we can all have different views on the situation!

I can picture my blood mage spending hours upon hours studying his research and listening to his stories. And for the record, if the only way to control the taint was to kill more wardens, I'd simply go on a recruiting spree of criminals sentenced to death. If they're gonna die they might as well die for a good cause.

Yay for Avernus! :wizard:

Just out of curiosity, how does Alistair feel about that Warden? Without throwing unlimited gifts at him a la feast day gifts, I mean.

I never do everything the same in all my playthroughs.  I've killed off both Avernus and Sophia in most of them, but definitely not all of them.  A few of my wardens have wanted to keep him around for his research.  A couple of my wardens have even wanted to keep Loghain around.

I had an odd buggy playthrough with my HNM.  He's the one who was in love with Morrigan, but she simply stopped talking to him, so he married Anora.  :pinched:

He did do the DR with Morrigan and then got a goodbye kiss ...

I really don't think that was appropriate behavior for a future father-in-law.

Spare Caradin? I've never had that option, per se. It's either side with him, who regrets his actions and wants to destroy the anvil, or side with crazy Branka, who plans to continue using the anvil. Siding with Branka isn't an option. If Caradin hadn't killed himself, I would have been mighty pissed off if we had to let him go without repercussions as we did with Valanna, (sp) if we didn't kill her at the outset.

Neat <3

The Dalish ties in there are the main reason why I have let my Dalish dude Alonis (current avatar) switch from Leliana to Morrigan. So far he hasn't complained  And imo M!Dalish/Morrigan are a fitting romance because they have so lot in common. I wonder if what the Dalish elf said in the beginning change if you play an Dalish elf yourself (One Dalish died, the other disappeared) ...or if Lenya/Alonis  have to jump up and down and screaming "I'm not dead, I'm not dead" until the DLC notice it. :P And yay for Arai's (Lenya's mabari) and Meatball's (Alonis' Mabari) return as companion. <3

I concur. My rogue may not be able to practise magic, but he recognises a potentially valuable ressource when he sees it. Killing Avernus just sounds like a waste to me.
If the Power of the Blood and outliving the taint are the results of his experiments, I say they are well worth it.
