errant, I take that back, we are back into the positives, 9F. Wind chills to -10. I read it wrong. My bad.

Good thing. We have a reputation to uphold, you know. ;)
(Making a picture of Alistair in the toolset to add some topicalness. That's not a word, is it? Topicality, that's it.)

And I thought *I* was cold here in Georgia with 23F -5C. I feel sorry for y'all!

Here's some more smut for on topicness (which isn't a word, either Errant, but I don't care LOL).

I just wanted to say, even though I have never done a proper Alistair romance (I cheated with FeastDay gifts to get that achievement), I want to add my two cents on his character and this absurdly long thread seemed like the place to do so. Even without being in a romance with him I felt that, the main reason I could ever get through the sloooow (after waaay too many playthroughs to count) beginning of Origins (Ostagar, the Tower of Ishal, Lothering) is because of Alistair. With every Warden that I've played through to the end (all males, mind you) I felt like the companion I had the most connection with in the game was that blonde cheese-loving fellow Warden. It just seemed like no matter who, whether it was the Cousland family...Duncan....Cammen (Ok, no one liked Cammen),,,the one person who's dialogue and personality that actually made me care the most was Alistair's. Not once have I gone through the Landsmeet completely where I had Loghain spared (except once for the achievement then I promptly deleted that file) since I couldn't stomach my favorite companion...no, favorite brother I never had by that point in the game, being pissed at me and leaving. Anyways, theres my gush about Alistair. Just wanted to give my 2 cents and thanks the Bioware writing team for creating such an awesome character with so much depth.

Plus, the gossip conversation you get with him once you get his approval high enough was so funny, it was worth listening to him whine a few times about Duncan.

@kcifor - Very cool! There are a few other men here who think of Alistair as their brother, so you're not alone! I think it's great that he can be so appealing across gender lines.

@Yankee - As always, wonderful work (and it's already become my new wallpaper lol).

Thanks, Rage! I didn't even notice that it was the top of the page. And one of my favorite moments, too.... :)

Kcifor, on my first playthrough, when I played as a male and didn't even know there were romances in the game, Alistair was totally Aedan's bro. In fact, he spent so much time hanging around with Alistair, he didn't even notice that Leliana liked him until the epilogue. D'oh! Sadly, that probably happens in real life, too.

Here's that toolset pic I mentioned earlier.

Have to agree with you, Kcifor.

I'm a male, and have always played a male, but god - Alistair is one of my favorite, if not my favorite character in the Dragon Age universe. I enjoyed the romances and all - something Bioware has always been good at it, but one thing they have never really given male players is a male character who can relate both well to female and male players.

Alistair, throughout the game, grows as a character and develops into a brother of the Warden. I love having goofy conversations with him, hearing him whine about Duncan, and the juicy gossip. But the thing that really got me is when you harden him and he becomes enthuisastic about becoming king. I felt proud of my friend when he stood up for himself against Anora, in front of the Landsmeet, and declare himself king.

But throughout the game, he becomes a close friend of yours and looks out for you interests as well. Though the Warden is a silent character, I can't imagine few better friendships throughout videogames then Alistair and the Warden. I myself have also only spared Loghain once, and I could hardly bear it. And one other time I sacrificed Alistair to kill the Archdemon, and I was so angry about how nobody hardly commented on his sacrifice in the 'celebration' afterwards I quickly deleted the file without even going to the credits.

The love for Alistair here is well deserved. Kudos to the writers for creating a realistic character, one that people can relate to, and have a involving relationship or friendship with. Let's hope that we see more of Alistair in Dragon Age games, and that he makes a powerful cameo in Dragon Age 2 as the king of ferelden...or a drunk. Who knows!

I just reinstalled DA:O, and I never got a chance to use the Alistair mod that's specific to each origin. Now I can't remember which one it was >.> Not the extra flirts and sexy stuff, just the extra scene one. Help please :(

lol so what did it say for Leliana's epilogue?
I love Alistair, he was and always will be my wardens best freind. Getting Loghains achievment is going to be very hard :/
(If I can ever even bring myself to do it)

Those scenes are part of cmess's mod IRS-A.  They contain all of the extras, but nothing says you have to click on them.

Do any of you guys harden Alistair? How much different does he act? I am thinking about hardening him in my new run.

Well, it wasn't the epilogue, so much as the endgame in the landsmeet chamber--that dialogue about getting the girl. Aedan was all 'What? I could have gotten the girl? Since when?' ;)

Heh. There's a reason I ignore achievements that don't just happen accidently. They make my stomach hurt.

Thanks, Yankee. :)

Re: hardening Alistair. The only time I didn't was one time before I figured out how. He's still a nice, funny guy with just as strong a sense of honor and duty, he's just willing to consider his own happiness, and he stands up for himself more. He's mainly more confident, and starts to believe himself to be capable in ways he didn't before, such as being able to entertain the possibility that he could be a good king, and that it might be an interesting life for him.

Alistair isn't that much changed. He's more confident and assertive (and, imo, selfish). If you ever wanted to keep Loghain alive and marry him to Anora then he'd need to be hardened. If you ever wanted to be his mistress then he'd need to be hardened. If you make him king and want him to take an active interest in ruling instead of just leaving it to his advisors while he goes out and sees the people then he needs to be hardened.

Yes, when you talk to Leliana. I don't remember specifically, because I only played a guy the once (something I mean to remedy one of these days), and so was only not romancing Alistair the once, but Leliana says something about it being like a story and one of the replies is about the hero getting the girl. Light dawned for poor, slow Aedan.

Particularly on that playthrough. Since I didn't know how to harden Alistair, he REALLY didn't want to be king, so Aedan didn't make him, no matter how much it made him twitch. ;) They went off to be wardens together.
