@Tigress: Something tells me that the story of Alistair convincing everyone to accept yet another royal bastard into the lineage because he doesn't want to get married is a lot more complicated than he let on. This may be the first time I've ever heard of Cailan having a bastard given that it's pretty much fanon that he's sterile. I can't believe Alistair managed to track down Celea's mother for her.

I thought it was Anora that was sterile?

Some think it's Cailan because, accordint to Anora, he had many women & no know bastards.  I don't realy buy Anora's tale of many women and I think she was the problem.

When does Anora tell you this?

Well, she never said there were a ton. For all we know, he had two mistresses. Given that Alistair can make the Hero of Ferelden his mistress, I don't think it would be at all out of the ordinary for Cailan to have a mistress. And even if Anora was lying and Cailan had never slept with anyone but her, he could have still been the problem.

When does Anora tell you this?

If you propose that she marry Alistair while you're in a relationship with him. She says that Cailan had his women but was at least discrete and wants to know if she's going to have to have another husband coming to the marriage with a mistress. Some think she's trying to play on your sympathies here.

She says the same thing to a hnm king keeping Leliana or Morrigan in a relationship. She wants to make sure you keep it out of the public much like Cailan did.

Alrighty, uninstalled and reinstalled. Now it's having some trouble downloading DLC. :/

Are you getting the "Unauthorized" error with the DLC's like Warden's keep or what? It was the problem I had when I had to re-install the game. If so, let me know and I will gladly help you to fix it. :)

No.  It's just incredibly slow.  I can only do 2 at a time max, otherwise the downloads all fail.  -.-

I don't think it is possible to have a happy ending for a female GW that romanced Alistair and made him king. Seriously, imo the GW ending is the winner >

You know, I have to agree with you. I like the thought of Alistair giving up his kingly burden and "running away" with the pc.

ah~ sorry I know this is old but I had to agree on this when reading the thread. I'm doing a non-HNF for the first time as I usually just go with the HNF all the time I replay.

I found that at the beginning I thought being a Queen with Alistair was the best ending I could get but if you mix politics, the heir and everything else, this might cause more problems since our Warden can't have babies or the possibility is really low at least.

After playing a mage, I found them re-building the Grey Wardens and living together to be the best ending for a female warden. I mean, they'll be together, doing what they know best and still help Ferelden. Versus having nobles and Landsmeet freak out at your warden for not being able to be a full "Queen" without an heir.

Anyway, yeah I kept playing human noble until my mage playthrough and that was fun and felt more of an appropriate ending for them, I mean given their circumstance of a shorter lifespan.

Anyway, I can't get enough of Alistair~ He's the best~<3

I prefer to not harden Alistair and keep him a GW. Anora is a good queen and an unhardened Alistair is thrilled when you support Anora.

There are benefits to all endings, and it depends on the character. For my HNF, being queen with a hardened King Alistair is the best ending. For my mage, it's rebuilding the GW. For my Dalish, it's leaving completely.

Where does this happen? I only see that dialog tree being only avaliable when Alistair's romance is active and the PC had sex with Alistair.

Yeah true it definitely varies with the origin of your warden. My HNF just had to be Queen, the way I RP her, after Howe took away her family, she was gonna run the show with her man at her side. Period . I made some desicions that had me hating on Anora too and I locked her up lol. :bandit:

On the other hand, when I did my human mage, she loved teasing the ex-Templar in training turned GW and after falling in love decided to be selfish, and not give Ferelden the possibilities of having a good king:wizard:. Instead kept him by her side where he would be loved and enjoy whatever time they had left re-building the GW. She was at least going to take something for herself since the wardens sacrifice so much. Not that I see Alistair complaining for that~;)

lol in the end both my wardens like to be in control since Duncan just kind threw them into the whole GW thing anyway. Might as well make the best with whatever time they have and throw lots of sexy party in between. <3

Actually only in HNF warden ending does Alistair get called away to Weishaupt.

Also if the Warden remains as mistress and chancellor.  Basically, if the PC leaves the Grey Wardens, Alistair has to go to Weisshaupt.  For what, we don't know.

If you rebuild the Wardens, even if he's king, it says he eventually leaves court to join you and only leaves your side to plant a memorial for Duncan.

In fact in Awakening, when Alistair is the king, he says that he has to take care of business in the Bannorn.  If he's a GW, which he was in my Dalish elf playthrough, he should still be with the warden.

GW Alistair does drop off the face of the map.

Mother

Dan and Alistair sat by the main camp fire enjoying some peace and quiet after the evening meal. The two wardens could not sense any darkspawn nearby, so the feeling around camp was more relaxed than usual. Morrigan and Wynne were engrossed in a debate over magical practices, Sten was meditating, Oghren had already passed out from an excessive amount of ale...well more than usual, and Leliana was sharpening her daggers while humming a tune. Zevran and Lakota had gone hunting in the woods nearby for small game.

The two friends sat quietly taking everything in. Dan sat on the ground leaning back against a log, and Alistair sat on another log across the fire from him. Both men did not speak for a long time, and Alistair noticed Dan watching Leliana more than usual.

"'I am no Orlesian wallflower'...funny," Dan finally spoke.

"What was that?"

"Huh...oh. I was just thinking about one of the things my mother said that last night at home."

"Ok. May ask what made you think of that night?"

"Leliana...she's Orlesian...but she is no wallflower. Watching all she does as well as fight, it just struck me funny that Mom thought Orlesian women didn't fight. She would be shocked if she met Leliana..."

"I never knew my mother. What was yours like, if I may ask?" queried Alistair.

"Mom? It's funny..she and Leliana have a lot in common. She was good with a blade, even danced a little when she did it. She preferred a bow, though, much like Leliana does. And mom loved to sing. She couldn't carry a tune to save her life, but she loved to sing," he said with a chuckle. "But she was firm too. There was this time Fergus and I got in trouble with Nan, and when mom found out..."

Alistair watched Dan wipe a tear from the corner of his eye. "You don't have to keep it up...I mean I don't mean to pry.."

"No..it's ok," Dan reassured him. "It actually feels good to talk about it. I haven't told you at all about that night, have I."

"No, but I figured you would in time if you wanted to," replied Alistair.

"Well, since we appear to have time...Howe came to Highever to meet with us before heading to Ostagar..."

Dan continued to tell the story of his last night at home to Alistair. The rest of their companions continued their various things they were doing. And the bond between the wardens grew stronger that night as both men began to see each other as brothers. A new family that both men no longer had.

Very nice, Rage. :)

And my turn.

"Mother"

“It is odd that Marlana has taken such an interest in one particular orphan, when there are many in the Alienage”, Zev said as he walked up beside Alistair. The big man was standing by the vhenadahl watching the silver-haired woman talking with Shianni, the rather outspoken elven woman that had taken over the elder’s place while he was…missing. While investigating the actions of the supposed Tevinter healers, they’d come across the little girl who had caught Lana’s attention.

Alistair was silent for a moment before he said softly, “She knew the girl’s mother.”

The elf looked at the warrior questioningly, who sighed before continuing, “Apparently Iona, the girl’s mother, was the maid of a friend of Lana’s mother…they were there when Howe…”

“You need not say anymore, my friend.” Zevran studied the young woman that was both friend and leader. “She does seem to have a habit of collecting orphans, does she not?”

It was Alistair’s turn to look questioning.

“Well, there’s our sweet Leliana, you, and my humble self.”

Involuntarily Alistair’s hand crept to the locket that Lana had found and restored to him. It had been one of the first things she had given to him that held true personal meaning, not just one of the little trinkets she had a tendency to find for her friends. And it had become more than just the only token of a mother he never knew, but a token of what he shared with his fellow Warden. That’d she’d not only listened to his story about his mother’s amulet, but remembered… Then he mentally shook himself, this wasn’t the time or place. Besides he was curious about Zevran’s too casual comment.

“Oh, um. I’m sorry, Zev, I didn’t realize…”

Zev looked at him sideways, an unreadable expression in his eyes, “No? The lovely Warden didn’t share the story?”

Alistair’s jaw clenched, but he kept his tone civil, “You know as I do that unless that person wants others to know, or someone happens to eavesdrop, that Lana isn’t the type to spill secrets. Or if she feels there’s an immediate risk that needs to be dealt with.”

“You are right, templar”, Zevran sighed. He gave Alistair another odd look, “You know, as much as I’m sure you’ll love hearing this, but we do have something in common.”

“Oh? Do tell?” Alistair asked dryly.

“Indeed. We both killed our mothers.”

The human’s normally warm brown eyes turned a dangerous black, though he didn’t move. Yet. Zevran held up placating hands. “Sorry, sorry. Poor choice of words. It is the manner that we lost them. See, my mother died in birth as well. My first victim if you will.”

Alistair’s anger drained away as he scrubbed his face, “For what it’s worth, I am sorry to hear that.”

Zevran shrugged seemingly indifferently as the two men continued to watch the two women have a long discussion until Lana very determinedly shove a small pouch into Shianni’s hands. Shianni tried to give it back, but Lana refused, sparking a slightly more heated talk. Zev spoke softly with a thoughtful air as he briefly explained how his parents met and how he ended up being raised in a ****house until slavers got him and sold him to the Crows. “And the rest of that, my friend, is history. Which you know.”

“Maker, Zev.” Alistair shook his head and despite the fact he’d gotten better about it, his sense of irony and his glib tongue conspired to get him in trouble. “Well, there is a bit of irony in your comparison though.”

“This should be interesting.”

He gave Zev a sardonic grin, “Why yes, the irony is that while you were raised in a ****house and later became an assassin, you’re the legitimate one of the two of us.”

The former Crow gave him a startled look, before he grinned which turned into laughter. This set Alistair off, so that when Marlana returned to them, she was greeted by two near hysterically laughing men. At her baffled expression, they just started laughing harder.

She stared at them for a long moment, before huffing, “Males.” Then she went off in search of Wynne for more sensible company as assassin and knight tried to get themselves back under control.

Eh, if the shots weren't on photobucket, I probably didn't care all that much.

I'll busy myself with all the origins first.  *heads off to extract heads from her saved games*

Rage - I always felt horrible about that little girl and that I couldn't do anything for her in the game. Figured since I've broken enough things as it is, I could do that much at least. :)

LadyD - So the saves were completely corrupted?

Reika: It appears so. Landsmeet will not trigger. I am hoping that by beginning again, and not adding or taking away any mods, it'll be fine. I did drop my override file back in because it has all the mods I want.

So, we'll see.

Mothers eh?
Written By: Bob Brosca the second. Esquire. heheheh.

Walking down one of the many halls in the royal palace at Orzamar Alistair had a very important question to ask his friend Bob. As of now they where heading back to the now "royal quest quarters" after King Bhelen insisted they stay for a large festival for the new king, and the army marching to war against a blight.

His question did not have to do with anything about Blights, or darkspawn, or wars although it touched on all of them. It had to do more with something that was probably very personal to Bob, and Alistair was not very sure how to break the topic. So diving in with his usual skill at conversation the young warden asked his fellow warden that burning question:

"So um, about your err mother back there and what... she ah..." Alistair had begun to say.
Looking up at him Bob only raised an eyebrow at him and waited for him to get to his point.

"She was um really not that... you know" Alistair continued.
"Civil?" Bob said.
"Sober?, Nice? Proud? Accepting? Clean?" Bob supplied to him.

"No, well maybe.. except for the last one... ok maybe that one too"Alistair stuttered out.
"What I mean is, for all you just did and helped her and Rica, and Bhelen she still was insulting you!" Alistair finally got out.

"I mean you saved the whole city and crowned the next king, and she still called you an ingrate who never thinks of anyone but themselves!" Alistair said.
"Not her exact words, salroka" Bob added under his breath.

"Then after that she falls over drunk and you then pick her up and put her back in bed" Alistair said with shock in his voice.
Drawing in a deep breath Bob let his mind mull over the problem and finally seemed to arrive at an answer he liked.

"What can I say salroka that is family for you, and as much as I would like to have a different mother I am stuck with her." Bob began. Turning a corner they were nearing their quest chambers and Bob continued.

"We dont get to choose our parents, our where we are born, or what we look like salroka" Bob said.
"Because if we did I would certainly have not chosen to have been born with such big ears."

"Wait, what?" Alistair interrupted him. "What do your ears have to do with this?" he asked.
'"Nothing why do you ask?" Bob asked back.

"Its just that- oh never mind" Alistair said.
"Anyway what I mean is that while my mother is fairly well nasty, I chose to accept that and treat her differently then she treats me" Bob said.

"What matters is not how your family or your world see you or treat you, but how you see yourself and treat them".
"I dont see her as a mean old drunk who needs a bath salroka, I see her as my mother and I always will." Bob said.

"Mothers are special no matter what they act like, talk like, or smell like, what matters is that deep down there is a connection between them and you that is very important. She may say these things but deep down she knows I am her son, and that I do love her." Bob added.

"I think that the thing to remember salroka about mothers, its not wishing for a better one all the time, its accepting that the universe gave you your mother. How you deal with that though is what is truly important in the end." Bob finished.

Nodding silently Alistair ran over what his friend had said and was wondering what to do with this new way of looking at mothers and well life from his friend.

One thing was certain for Bob if the warden thing did not work out he could single handedly but all of the philosophers of Thedas out of work very easily.
