In my playthroughs, I always harden Alistair since the epilogue for him when hardened and King is much better. I just love the thought of Alistair trusting himself more in leadership roles. Also, for anyone who marries him off to Anora, I think that it is REQUIRED that he be hardened. I just can't stand the thought of her being really mean to him and him rolling over and taking it.

I pulled it out of Dark Times, this is the Regular Dragonstrike plate, there is a Dark version, too, as well as heavy chainmail in dark and regular, and light armour, too. This goes along with the Dragonstrike mage robe.  There are also matching weapons, too!

I loathe the hardening system. Why are only Alistair and Leliana subjected to it? I think those two characters get extra forum abuse because it's possible for them to come off as weaker and malleable than the average companion. Either make hardening possible for all characters or do away with the system.



People have different rationales for whether or not to harden Alistair/Leliana, but my approach comes from a commander perspective. You can give them a fish or teach them how to fish because you won't always be around to hold anybody's hand. (Of course, this is moot with the drunk ending, but hopefully you get my point.) I've seen beautiful reasons for not hardening them either, mostly in Leliana's case because her situation is so different. Either way, the hardening system sucks. =p

*Waves hello to Gilsa!* LTNS! And I totally agree. I don't mind the idea of the characters maturing over time, but that it hinges on one line during one dialog, makes it seem terribly forced.

If you just sort of spring it on them at the Landsmeet, that's making a decision for Alistair and Anora (although they do go along with it unless Alistair killed Loghain or you don't kill Loghain and Alistair is unhardened) but what about if you talk it over with them and arrange it pre-Landsmeet? They both agree and you actually have to talk Alistair into it so while he's  not thrilled, it ultimatel is his decision.

I'll agree that Alistair should probably be hardened as he really isn't ever happy to marry Anora and unhardened Alistair is pretty much taking the throne under duress anyway but I don't think he's that much of a pushover that he'll just sit back and take any crap Anora wanted to give him. Additionally, I don't think she'd be mean to him. She wants him to stay out of her way and while hardened Alistair insits on participating, unhardened Alistair is perfectly willing to do that.Probably not a happy marriage and yet she won't needlessly treat him badly, she'd just be distant.
