Well, it seems a lot like kicking heroin, so...like that.
Whoops, Top of page. Just a minute.... *opens the toolset*

So basically, Alistair would turn into Sid Viscious if deprived of lyrium. Awesome! :wizard:

Nice prompt's, you two. And both mentioning Alistair escaping lyrium addiction!

I wonder what Alistair would be like going through lyrium withdrawals....

If it's anything like nicotine withdrawal I shudder to think *twitches*

Lady Jess - I think it's closer to heroine withdrawal from what I've been told by various folks.

Apparently, nicotine is the hardest thing to kick next to heroin, but it's mostly mental, and the physical stuff is over in about 5 days, where as heroin...much, much rougher physically. Really painful. Gah, that reminds me, I promised myself to try and quit smoking (again) before spring....

You're probably right, reika, especially when you see Immiric. He's got the classic junkie pallor/shakes/incoherency. Though that other templar standing guard at the Denerim chantry just looked like he was going senile.

I've dealt with the roomie trying to quit smoking. Ugly business.

Edit:

@Skadi: The senile templar had reached the stage where the lyrium was rotting his brain, not withdrawals.

Oh. So he was like the templar Keith Richards, then. Incoherent and still inexplicably alive.B)

Awesome! Too bad you didn't get any options to torment the crap out of him. I take an evil pleasure torturing the handicapped in video games (like Cammen) since I'd never do it in real life.

I think that Carroll guy is like Keith Moon. He's in the rock 'n' roll stage of lyrium addiction.

@ Lady D - That's true, you did. I'd forgotten who'd written it. Sorry about that.

@Skadi - I can't bring myself to do that. Probably because I work in an insurance call center and have to be "evil" while at work.

Really?

maybe being a templar would have actually been more fun for Alistair. I mean, the Circle must be a popping party destination. Lyrium, elfroot, madcap bulbs, ect. Maybe the mages only pretend to dislike it so no one asks questions.

I mean, in Witch Hunt, one of the apprentices left you a nice wad of elfroot reefer in an anti drug pamphlet, and Godwin is the local lyrium dealer.

Ok, prompt fill time:

The Naked Landsmeet

The hour was late and Morrigan wondered the halls of the Eamon estate unable to sleep. She had seen a great many things in the past few months that she had never thought she would ever see. The events of the Landsmeet earlier that day was even more confusing to her. Formality, yelling, and fighting. She was impressed by the show of power, but like a great many other things of the world of men she was still confused about how the whole situation could be changed so quickly. In the morning they were refugees having been declared outlaws by the ruling monarchy, and tonight they were free, depended upon to end the blight, and even the fool Alistair was now going to be king. As she rounded another corner near the dining hall, she could hear voices from within. Deciding to see who it was, she entered the door to see Dan, Alistair, and Leliana at the far end of the long room enjoying a late night snack. Dan and Leliana sat on the north side of the dining table while Alistair sat across from them. As she approached the threesome, they turned to greet her with smiles.

"Come, Morrigan. Join us," invited Leliana. "We have some nice cakes and cookies left over from the evening meal that we snuck out of the kitchens."

Considering she had not eaten when the others had, she decided to join them. As she accepted a plate of cookies from Dan, she addressed Alistair. "So, you are to be the new king of Ferelden."

"That's right. Can't say I am entirely thrilled about it, but I would rather be king than have Anora ruling the country. She is too much like her father."

Morrigan looked to Dan. "And you made this happen? Why would chose him over a ruler who has ruled for several years and knows how to rule?"

Dan finished his cookie he was eating, and replied," Because it's Alistair's right, not hers. He is Maric's son, and she is not in line to rule after Cailan died. And especially since I am still not too sure she did not have a plot in his death."

"And you did not want to fight Loghain yourself? Interesting. I do wonder though, Alistair, if you had won if you had used barbarian traditions."

The three looked at Morrigan, and with a puzzled look Alistair queried, "And what is so different about barbarian traditions? Do I really want to know?"

"You would have been naked and fighting with no weapons. I imagine the nobles would have been quite frightened by that scene."

"What?" the other three asked in unison.

"Well, barbarians fight with nothing but themselves. No weapons, and NO ARMOR. I think it would have been quite entertaining watching you and Loghain fighting like that. Perhaps...well...I can guess you would not have much to be embarrassed about."

"What do you mean by that?" asked Alistair.

Morrigan looked down towards Alistair's lap and grinned. "You are reasonably well...endowed."

Dan and Leliana looked at each other, and then leaned forward to peer at Alistair across the table. Feeling very much embarrassed, Alsitair placed his hands in his lap and crunched over. "Heeey! Stop glaring at me like that! And how do you know h-h-how...en-endowed I am?"

"There were many times I saw you bathing while at camp. My tent was sometimes nearby, and it was easy to see you bathing."

Dan and Leliana looked at each other again, then at Morrigan. Leliana was about to ask Morrigan a question when the witch simply held up one finger on each hand a specific width apart causing Alistair to blush deeper. Leliana's shocked look at Morrigan's description and "Wow!" response caused Alistair to redden even more.

"I take it by your reaction, Leliana, that Dan is not quite as...endowed?"

"He does not need to be. He's about average, so we do just fine in that department, thank you very much."

Both men looked at the women and blushed again.

"I see. Well, Alistair. I must say had you used the barbarian traditions during the fight, I imagine there would have been quite un uproar, and a few gushing queen hopefuls in attendance. Tis a shame, really. I would rather have enjoyed that bit of entertainment. But the hour is late, and we have a long day ahead in the morrow."

Morrigan left the table and resigned to resumed her tour of the estate hallways. Behind her Dan and Leliana again leaned forward to peer at Alistair. And Morrigan could hear slight snickering from the two as she walked through the doorway, and Alistair complaining that he was not amused by their curiosity.

@Rage - That was hysterical, even if my abdominal muscles are cursing you out for making me laugh so hard. :)

Edit: For lack of Alistair pictures. I thought this was appropriate. ;)

@Rage: And the best part is that we don't even know if that's real or she's just messing with them. That's probably the most realistic non-dream sequence we can get out of this particular prompt.

Yep! I've had several docs tell me it's equal to heroine. That's why there are so many replacement therapies out there. And I don't really think physical or mental means one is worse. Supposedly the physical goes away in the first two weeks but the anxiety and depression you go through without nicotine after causes physical pain in it's wake as well.

Ever notice when you get depressed or anxious you get headaches (Migraines for me), muscle aches/cramps, stomach issues and joint pain? The brain is a powerful thing, and when deprived of it's addiction will violently object.

I'm bipolar and have persistant anxiety disorder on top of IBS...imagine how fun quitting is...lol. For 20 years I smoked a pack a day. And my brain knows damned well this patch on my arm is not the same thing, and it's been 2 weeks and 3 days.  I could STILL fall off the wagon. Even when you finish the patches, and are a non smoker again, they say cravings still sneak up on you. UGH!!

These things make my arm itch like mad, I have little square itchy rashes everywhere I've had one stuck, but I can't chew gum, or have hard candy, the Chantix side effects don't work well for IBS sufferers so it's this or cold turkey. Cold turkey would be BAD for anyone forced to live with me.

I agree with Reika, the thought of purposely addicting someone to something is grounds for hanging.
