I've been playing DA:O a lot recently and there's a comment that Alistair makes about the Grand Cleric not wanting Duncan to recruit him, which may have something to do with Alistair's bloodline. I'm currently working on a one shot fic that explores that idea a little. 
Here's some of it. Just ah pay no mid to the spelling and grammar (or rather lack thereof) It's a first draft
Alistair paced around the camp his mind in turmoil for Mira had just announced she was intending to head for Redcliffe to see Arl Eamon which raised the issue of telling her who his father really was. So far he'd managed to avoid telling her but Alistair knew his time had run out. This is going to be such a cheery conversion the templar thought dismally.
Mira Cusland was sat near the fire polishing her family's sword as she had every intent of using to end Arl Rendon Howe's life and if she were feeling really vindictive she just might use her dagger instead and cut out the man's heart while it was still beating and feed it to her Mabari War Hound. Now's there's an imagine to put a smile on my face before I go to sleep, she thought darkly.
"Mira can I speak to you?" Alistair asked.
Mira looked up and smiled a genuine happy smile on hearing the templar's voice. "Of course you can, Alistair." she paused a moment, there was something in the man's expression that bothered her "I'm not going to like this am I?"
Alistair sighed "I don't know. I know I've never liked it that's for sure." he said as he sat down. "You know I told that Arl Eamon raised me, the reason he did was because... because King Maric was my father which made Calin my half brother."
Mira froze His farther was who? her mind screamed That makes him... now that Calin is dead, oh maker why me? "You could have told me sooner Alistair." she said softly.
"How?" the templar asked in a whine "Oh by the way I'm the bastard son of the dead king Maric?"
Mira shook her head it was times like this she didn't know if she wanted to hug Alistair or hit him, repeatedly. "It comes up but you've done a very good job of avoiding the question." she replied "I know why the Grand Cleric didn't want Duncan to recruit you."
Alistair blinked "What?" he asked.
Mira sighed he can be so dense she thought frustrated. "Alistair as much as I love you I know you have a brain in there, please use it once in a while." she said tapping the side of his head lightly. "You told me Duncan was forced to conscript you. The Grand Cleric didn't want you to join because of who your father was."
"That makes no sense." Alistair said totally missing the point or was he just in denial?
Mira sighed "Alistair, my love it makes perfect sense." she replied cupping his face "You are whether you like it or not King Maric's son which makes you the rightful heir to the throne now that Calin is no more. You have more of a clam Anora anyway."

Given that he's an unrecognized bastard, I rather disagree with the idea that he's the 'rightful' heir as if he were then Anora couldn't really stand against him at the Landsmeet.
