Very sad drama going on in here last night.  Whenever I've jumped in and commented on these types of things, I've ended up regretting it.  But I can't just walk away after the way things were left last night, so here I go again.  :crying:

KoP, you were part of the original Gush thread since way back when I was just a shy lurker.  You have been involved in some of the most fascinating discussions here.  I hope you will change your mind and not leave, because you really are a part of this thread.  But ...

You always post from logic and not emotion.  From where I sit, it seems like you see things in black or white.  And you are a part of a thread that is inhabited by some people who see things more from their hearts.  There's nothing wrong with the way you look at things in ordinary life.  But this is a fictional world that we debate about.  It's all a matter of opinion.  There is no true black or white.  Unless you live inside Gaider's mind, you do not know for a fact that Cailan would have ended up being a bad king.  Sure, he might have been a stupid king, but he could have gotten lucky and ended up getting good results.  Not one of us knows for sure because it never happened.

When you get deep into a debate, you sometimes have a way of expressing yourself that makes your opinion sound like fact, and makes it sound like those with opposing opinions are ridiculous.  I think part of it might be a cultural difference in the way some of us express ourselves.  Sometimes you remind me of Spock arguing with Kirk.  There's no real right or wrong here.  But reading over your later posts last night, it sounded like you were becoming very condescending with LadyD.  I've seen you get into these debates before, and I'm pretty sure that you were not meaning to be insulting.  But it was coming across that way.  To LadyD and to a lesser extent to the subject matter of this thread.

You know Tori.  You've actually been through a lot with her after the outlash that happened after that first Cousland contest.  She's a sweet, good person.  And she's very loyal to LadyD.  I can't speak for her, but I think she might have been reacting emotionally to what she perceived as you being rude to a friend.

So, KoP, I hope you do not permanently leave this thread.  It wouldn't be the same without you.  But I also hope you'll be able to see that sometimes logical words can sound hurtful and condescending, even when you don't mean them that way.  You are such a smart guy.  I hope you can see that many of us here like you and would miss you if you didn't come back and that what happened last night might have been a misunderstanding based on emotions.

edit - recycled sad face

edited to correct a sentence that wasn't saying what I had intended.  :(

To go slightly OT @errant_knight I love that it's your screen name. I've been writing a story for a video game and the first woo character is Alistairesque though perhaps far less innocent and goofilicious. His class his Knight Errant because he was wrongly accused of murder, which is how your pc meets him depending on your race/class. I've always been fascinated with the idea of Knight Errants and how to use it as a class. I guess you could say a warrior Grey Warden is a typical Knight Errant in a way.

@Cme - Yay! I'm glad you decided to brave the Gush thread and post your gift! No, I'm not a fan of NPC mods, but... this one is very special to YOU and so I'm thrilled you've decided to share it with the rest of the community. Now if only you could swap voices, eh? ;)

No...that would be bad. I would die of squee.

Ah yes. Of course, why would I
expect a discussion to be allowed in here. It's not like the thread is
dying because there is nothing to talk about.

This is disrespectful and inappropriate especially since time and time again KoP has been allowed to express very negative opinions about Alistair here citing his right to dissent.

He also seems to be implying the thread will die if he is not allowed to do this. But nobody has stopped him, have they? Perhaps he is getting emotional?

Giggles_Manically wrote...

The fangirls are coming out of tah word work.

Notice I said THERIN not Alistair.
I said Maric and Cailan. NOT Alistair.

Whatever.

This too is disrespectful because he is choosing to denigrate those that disagree with him as "fan girls". Well , if you don't like fan girls, don't come to a gush thread.

I've said before that sometimes this feels sometimes feels like a 'hate thread' and there are plenty of those.

But what a way to go!

@Cat - That's a great shot!  Sorry you crashed.  That used to be a fairly common event with me, but haven't had one crash since I got my new PC.

Edit:  @Somebody - Before or after you killed it?  I hate fighting those things!

Just as I started to fight it thankfully. I would have been raging if I just killed it, only to have to do it all over again.

Yikes! That's horrible. I still have to dial the difficulty way down to fight those things. I agree, at least it wasn't at the end. That would have been tragic!

You know, Alistair generally talks about people he hates with vitriolic loathing rather than snark. In my head, he just looks at Anora when she tells him to do that and says "F*ck no." XD

Yep, I gotta agree with Lady D. I can't see it happening.

Really late reply to this but I wasn't well so I went to bed right after posting that.

I looked at the prompt about the hardest thing he ever had to do and my first thought was 'being forced to participate in something positive about Loghain post-Ostagar.' His speech wasn't gushing, it was short and mostly focused on how bad the Blight was.

I don't feel it's OOC that he could be dragged to the statue's unveiling because that's one of those things that would be planned months in advance and everyone wanted him to at least make an appearance because it would look bad for Ferelden's king not to show up to honor the deceased savior of Ferelden and that's just what Loghain is in the redeemer ending. Anora, Eamon, ect. have had months to pester him about it and I don't think it's OOC that eventually he just gave in and got through it although other people can think that he would have held firm and just stayed indoors that day.

I suppose I could have had him being vitriolic with Anora on the way home but I don't really like hateful Alistair. Post-coronation he seems more okay (but still nowhere near actually okay) with Loghain not having died at the Landsmeet if he's dead now. Given a few more months of Loghain being dead and I think that his hatred may have cooled slightly if only because it's really difficult to maintain such a strong and intense emotional feeling towards someone you never see over a long period of time. Alistiar still hates Loghain but since he's long-dead at this point I think it's gotten to more manageable levels and I think it's healthier for him to have reached that point, especially regarding his feelings towards a dead man.

YMMV but that's what I was thinking with that.

Yeah, I would have probably taken a day or two off from playing. I hate that Revenant in particular, he's surrounded by undead and skeleton archers.:pinched:

Sarah: I should say that it's not that I can't see him, especially after a very long period of time, giving a speech, it's more how blase he seemed afterward. *shrugs* We all see him differently, especially on the divisive issues.

It really depends on the character I'm playing, but I often kill Isolde.  After all the people who died for her stupidity, I don't feel too bad about her sacrifice.

And I even more often let Jowan go.  I do like him.  In the last game, my mage helped him rescue Lily.

My gosh, you guys are killing me.  How do you rescue Lilly???  Is it a mod.  Why don't I know these things after playing 15 times.

Thing got heated here last night and words were said out of frustration. Unfortunately, it happens - we're only human. But I hope for those people who decide to "leave" or avoid the thread realize that when we get emotional, especially angered, we tend to say things we don't mean and I'm sure those people have come to regret saying it. It's the same thing with your families, we have our disagreements but we don't quit because of a few hurtful/offending statements. Words are just words; they can't do anything to you unless you let it. So I hope no one is discouraged to participate in this thread because we tend to act like human beings and get emotional in here. It's normal, we all deal with it in everyday lives, and we can all be better persons by moving on from it.

And as for thread mascot, what do you guys think of Pandastair?

Image IPB

Yes I need to draw a new version....without the arrow preferably. :P

I've never tried this mod mind you, but I've heard it's really well done for a beta.
