@Yankee23  Ah, ok. Now I get it. The one I meant was a sepia-toned figure study from behind. How's that for a polite description?

There's nothing special about the resolution of my monitor. It's probably that I use a crt monitor, and the picture on crt is MUCH better than lcd, even when viewed on an lcd monitor, which is probably what you're using. lcd just can't match the contrast.

To go slightly OT @errant_knight I love that it's your screen name. I've been writing a story for a video game and the first woo character is Alistairesque though perhaps far less innocent and goofilicious. His class his Knight Errant because he was wrongly accused of murder, which is how your pc meets him depending on your race/class. I've always been fascinated with the idea of Knight Errants and how to use it as a class. I guess you could say a warrior Grey Warden is a typical Knight Errant in a way.

Interesting idea! Yeah, a wandering knight without a particular lord to whom they owe allegience is an interesting idea. Of course, the wardens do have a kind of alliegience in that they have to put the blight first. On the other hand, that's not a whole lot different than the way Arthurian knights put religion first.

You know, Alistair generally talks about people he hates with vitriolic loathing rather than snark. In my head, he just looks at Anora when she tells him to do that and says "F*ck no." XD

Yep, I gotta agree with Lady D. I can't see it happening.

Really late reply to this but I wasn't well so I went to bed right after posting that.

I looked at the prompt about the hardest thing he ever had to do and my first thought was 'being forced to participate in something positive about Loghain post-Ostagar.' His speech wasn't gushing, it was short and mostly focused on how bad the Blight was.

I don't feel it's OOC that he could be dragged to the statue's unveiling because that's one of those things that would be planned months in advance and everyone wanted him to at least make an appearance because it would look bad for Ferelden's king not to show up to honor the deceased savior of Ferelden and that's just what Loghain is in the redeemer ending. Anora, Eamon, ect. have had months to pester him about it and I don't think it's OOC that eventually he just gave in and got through it although other people can think that he would have held firm and just stayed indoors that day.

I suppose I could have had him being vitriolic with Anora on the way home but I don't really like hateful Alistair. Post-coronation he seems more okay (but still nowhere near actually okay) with Loghain not having died at the Landsmeet if he's dead now. Given a few more months of Loghain being dead and I think that his hatred may have cooled slightly if only because it's really difficult to maintain such a strong and intense emotional feeling towards someone you never see over a long period of time. Alistiar still hates Loghain but since he's long-dead at this point I think it's gotten to more manageable levels and I think it's healthier for him to have reached that point, especially regarding his feelings towards a dead man.

YMMV but that's what I was thinking with that.

I can see that. My own take is that his anger wouldn't have faded that much, and that he wouldn't do it, but I can see as how other's opinions on that could differ. As to whether his vitrol toward Loghain is hateful, well, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. Thanks for explaining your thinking. When another person has a widely different take as your own, it's always interesting to see the thinking behind it.

Ok, how did you get this????  Is it a mod?  I'd love to get that in my game.

It's an image I made in the toolset, so no mod--sorry about that, Maybe I can make one someday once I'm done with my story, but that's a long way out. Part one is coming up soon, but there's part 2 after that. ;)

*sigh* Okay, I can't stay away from y'all for long after all. If only because I need folks to inflict my awful writing on. ;)
(And if someone could click on my profile to help it update and get rid of the chili, I'd appreciate it. :D)

Anyway, prompt fill "Protests".

“Blessed Andraste! You’re going to do what to a child?” Alistair was horrified as he stared at the Knight-Commander Greagoir as he, and three other initiates, listened to the man outline what was involved with a Harrowing. The other three edged away from him as if to avoid incrimination with the protesting young man.

Stone grey eyes regarded Alistair while the older man’s lips thinned, “We do it for the good of all, even the mages. You know full well that mages are in danger of being possessed by demons every day, this is the best way to make sure they have the strength to resist them.”

“But…you’re going to put a demon into a girl who is barely fourteen! How is that right?”

Greagoir’s became even more stern, “She’s been training for ten years, either she is ready now, or never. Would you rather her be Tranquiled?”

Normally warm brown eyed were bleak as he shook his head. At least the Harrowing gave the child a fighting chance. Child, ha! He was only four years older…but it made a world of difference.

Content that there were going to be no further outbursts, they were led to the Harrowing Chamber. A large, circular chamber at the top of the tower, plain save only for the fount in the exact center, where the lyrium would be mixed to send the girl’s spirit into the Fade where she would confront the demon. The initiates were directed to their places amidst the full-fledged brothers. All wore their helms, save the Knight-Commander. Alistair tried, and failed, not to feel like a coward hiding behind the helm, even though he wasn’t the one who had the responsibility of striking down the abomination the mage might turn into.

The mage in question proved to be a quiet little thing, with mouse brown hair and eyes. She listened in silence as she was given her directions and still in silence went to her fate.

Even though Alistair didn’t know her, the moment her eyes opened and the look of glee appeared, he knew. And felt sick, though he was ready to cut down the thing the girl had been turned into, there was no hope for her now. But the assigned templar, he hadn’t bothered to learn the man’s name since he was indistinguishable from the others in his armor, fulfilled his Maker given duty. The abomination didn’t even have a chance to finish whatever spell it was casting as the brilliant light crashed down from the heavens, stunning it and draining its mana.

The Sword of Mercy went through the heart, then the neck to make sure it was finished. Grateful for the concealment of the helm, Alistair bowed his head slightly making sure that his armor wouldn’t reflect his movement.

Not surprisingly, the Knight-Commander escorted him specifically as the initiates were going to the boat to return to the monastery. “Now you see why we do the Harrowing, Alistair? This way we can protect the world from those not strong enough to resist the creatures.”

“No, I don’t, Ser. She was still a child and you threw her to those monsters. But who am I to argue?”

Ser Tarvish, the lucky soul who got to lead this group to Kinloch Hold, growled in warning, “Alistair.”

Greagoir waved him off, “It’s just as well the boy voices his protests now, but given time he’ll come to understand the importance of our work.”

Until that day, Alistair was convinced that lyrium addiction was the worst part of being a templar. But he realized he was quite wrong and vowed to the Maker, aware of the irony, that he was going to do what he could to avoid those terrible oaths.

Screenshots are not shots of the screen but rather information gathered from the graphic card so the high contrast of your monitor would not matter. It just makes the screenshots look better when viewed on your monitor.

That's not quite accurate.  CRTs are still better than any but S-IPS panel LCDs, which can be calibrated to exceed CRT colour accuracy.  However, most gamers use TN-panel monitors, which, in fact, do not compare favourably with CRTs.  I do use an S-IPS (and still have my old LaCie CRT as well), and even though it has a slower refresh time, it works perfectly playing games.     But, we all see out of our own monitors so pics will look different on each. That's where colour calibration  comes into play.

Colour calibration is a huge project, how to make sure others see what you created accurately.  All you can do is to keep your own colours true, and hope for the best when others view on their equipment.

Edit:  Shoot, where is my head!  errant, your pics are fabulous, I"ve missed them and so glad you've posted more!  Keep posting them, please, even the old ones, I just love them all.

Yep, and while the new ones are lighter and save space, they don't have a better picture, no matter how much the companies that make them will say that they do. They save space, and probably power, but they aren't better, not for graphics, anyway. The good thing about that is that with people giving their old monitors away, one can get a large monitor that would once have cost hundreds of dollors for next to nothing, or even free.

So am I the only one here who didn't know that there was romance in this game? I'd been playing WoW for three years and I stopped for a bit to play DA:O. I was enjoying it well enough, but when I hit Redcliffe...well, things suddenly got verrrry interesting.

And to think that my hubby bought it for me because he thought I'd play a non-MMO *less*. Oops.

So this would mean that my LCD monitor isn't an s-ips panel lcd (being something that someone gave me, and likely entirely un-awesome), but I could get a better one if I wanted to shell out the bucks?

Thanks, Inclemency! For you... Although this one is too recent to really be anything you haven't seen for a while, I suspect.

Oh, and if my monitor doesn't have anything to do with image quality of toolset pictures or screenshots, I suppose I should mention my graphics card. It's nothing all that special--a GeForce 8600 GTS
