Alisgirl...wow. Thanks a lot, I always felt that scene seemed a bit...empty in game. I really your take on it.
You're very welcome, and thank *you* -- so far I only have DahliaLynn's mods installed because I have a bit of ADHD/anxiety when it comes to mod installation, but I have really been looking forward to checking yours out.
Go get IRS-A now! No self respecting Ali girl goes to the tent without it!
Not that I needed much...any...convincing, but all right...I shall do it!

So am I the only one here who didn't know that there was romance in this game? I'd been playing WoW for three years and I stopped for a bit to play DA:O. I was enjoying it well enough, but when I hit Redcliffe...well, things suddenly got verrrry interesting.
And to think that my hubby bought it for me because he thought I'd play a non-MMO *less*. Oops.
I had no idea. Alistair came up to my PC with the rose, and I was all 'What? Really? For me? Wow!"
What is a S-IPS monitor?inclemency wrote...
Yes, errant, S-IPS monitors are pretty amazing, there's a 178 degree viewing angle on them, and the brightness/colourshift is minimal even when viewing at an extreme angle. On regular monitors you get brightness/colourshift when just moving your head a bit. The better you see a project, the better it will look to all once it's done no matter what equipment they have. It will never look the same, though.
Great action shot, don't every stop posting your work, errant!

Screenshots are not shots of the screen but rather information gathered from the graphic card so the high contrast of your monitor would not matter. It just makes the screenshots look better when viewed on your monitor.

Lol, nice quote there
Unfortunately I figured it out a bit earlier than that, then did the stupid thing -- started looking things up on the Internet. Before long I was "cheating" my way through the Landsmeet and the follow-on conflicts, trying to make sure that Alistair and I got out with our lives. When I read about people who said they felt kicked in the teeth after finishing the game, well...I wish it were me, and that I hadn't spoiled the ending for myself. I could always have re-played it.
Someone else is going to have to explain the technicalities of why they're better (if not like the lcd monitors that Inclemency was talking about which I don't think I've ever seen), I'm afraid. Now, I do know that while text is more pixilated on the LCD, it's also sharper, and they're a software thingy that takes care of the pixilization. Beyond that, I really can't say. I just know that for graphics, which is my primary concern, the CRTs that I have or have seen are better than the LCDs that I've come in contact with. And they're dirt cheap for a good screen size which didn't used to be the case.Somebody wrote...

There's nothing special about the resolution of my monitor. It's probably that I use a crt monitor, and the picture on crt is MUCH better than lcd, even when viewed on an lcd monitor, which is probably what you're using. lcd just can't match the contrast.alisgirl wrote...
@errant -- Great fire shots! What res. is your monitor, if you don't mind my asking? Mine never turn out that good…

I think I get it. Im going to have to dig out my old monitor from 2000 and try DAO on it now.errant_knight wrote...

I got about 1/2 way through & read all the spoilers. I didn't want to screw anything up.
Well, if it's taking a picture of the screen, which I think it is, then the monitor could defintely make a difference. As you note, blacks just aren't black on most LCDs.Eber wrote...

I'm honestly just speculating. I see no reason why the monitor should be involved in the production of a screenshot, a bunch of ones and zeros representing colours. It's only needed to view them. If I wanted to test my theory I would try taking screenshots without a monitor hooked up (start up the game, unplug monitor and press print screen). If it works, and I think it would, that's confirmation right there.
Anyway I too am a fan of the CRT:s. I wen't from a nice but worn out and buzzing CRT to a cheap IPS not long ago and blacks aren't what they used to be.

But they're not better than a good CRT, right? So I might as well keep using an inexpensive, but decent quality crt? For as long as they're available, anyway.inclemency wrote...

Okay I tested it and if I run Dragon Age in full screen it crashes when I unplug my monitor. Presumably because it has no screen to claim in full. If I run it in windowed mode I can take screenshots when the monitor is unplugged. I consider it proven that a better screen will not produce better screenshots. Screenshots will however look better on a better monitor regardless of their origin.

Agree with Tigress. Just started a mage playthrough and ran into Cullen after the harrowing...had no idea that he would have had to kill me if I'd failed. Of course, most templars probably don't mind killing abominations…part of the job description, no?

This particular debate has been going on for years and has been studied in-depth. Please don't let it rage here. Calibration is a complicated and in-depth subject that we cannot do justice to on this particular forum, in this particular topic. I'll be glad to discuss it with you, but just not here anymore, especially since you've left out so many variables it's not even funny.
