Here it is.

Or, it means that gameplay trumps lore.

This is essentially it.

Until rather late in the development process, we had a plan to take the possibility of party members developing the darkspawn taint. This would have possibly meant them facing the Joining at the Landsmeet... and while this might have been an interesting development it would also have been costly. Eventually we sadly put it aside, along with other things like lyrium addiction.

Insofar as getting the blight goes, it's never a guaranteed thing. Simply touching darkspawn blood does not automatically make you sick. You can get sick. In the case of your party members they just... don't. They're lucky. Not the ideal solution from a story standpoint, I know, but as is often the case when it comes to things such as gameplay and development cuts the lore is not always the deciding factor.

Wow! A topic I've actually pondered before... lol amazing! Okay here's my thoughts/questions.

1. Why did Riordan go ahead with recruiting Loghain once it was clear Alistair was going to abandon the Order? I would guess he thought (like many of us probably did) that Alistair would come to his senses and come back after he cooled down.

2. Why only one (if any) joining after the LM? This one I don't understand except that having a lot of wardens diminishes the plot. Maybe Loghain did have the blood but only enough for one more ritual, although that really doesn't make sense... what'd he do? Drop all but one vial or something? I've heard what Mezzil is saying about not needing AD blood, just potent blood and mages, but if that were true then why couldn't we have used the mages that were helping with the blight make up some Joining blood and give us more Wardens for the attack on Denerim? But again, that goes back to a whimpy plot with no need for the DR or the death of your Warden or someone they know.

Genius x 2!

Seriously, I don't know how you guys do these, or the RDT shots. I tried my hand at RDT yesterday and it's definitely going to take some practice. And my gang kept dying while I was trying to play photographer. :-p

The doctor comes through.  Image IPB  You know, don't you, that I'm forced to read your posts in Mordin's voice.  It's amusing.

Riordan might indeed have been supposing that the Orlesians could still make it in time.  In the Revelation comic, Morrigan says something about the Orlesians not being able to get there, so in the minds of the crew that must have been something they were counting on and maybe the horde cut them off or something.

I don't think he thought you "needed" Loghain and only Loghain, it was just that he saw a famed general was about to be executed, he knew a Warden was going to have to be sacrificed, and saw an opportunity.  I doubt he predicted Alistair's reaction or that Alistair would get on a ship and not come back.

Alisgirl...pause is your friend. I pause through out combat to move the camera around to see if there are any good shots.

Question.... I'm not sure if you guys are using a mod, but my characters always have "black" eyes. Even when I change the color in the character creation, they always end up black?

Is it suppose to be like this, or just me? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Maybe its because your graphic settings are on low?

I have seen this asked a lot,  and it is usually the graphics setting being either two low or graphics card does not have enough memory. The former is the more common culprit and the latter only apparent on much older machines.

Rage is correct.

I played with my graphics and had a warden with green eyes have black eyes on low.

I use pause all the time for combat but I have to get better at it for taking pictures. I've been amazed by some of the facial expressions that you all have found during combat... yesterday Alistair was just staring off into the trees while taking out some wolves, grrr. Thanks for the tip though.

@Tigress M seriously not enough Ali, for like a page and a half! LOL I am all for serious discussion, but I do like the beefcake and the killings, not enough killings.

Here is my contribution from today, vanillastair in Redcliffe telling Circenne about his sister...sniff.

An aside, how'd you get the green eyes? I've tried (it seems) every light-eye selection during character creation and still never managed to come up with green. At least, not the color of Alistair's eyes during the Joining, which is what I'm shooting for. I guess this would be easy with the toolset…need to DL that *and* Fraps.

alisgirl, also a lot of peeps use several mods for the CC. I have some listed in a blog on my profile, and so does Storm. Hers also has links where mine does not. Feel free to look at either blog to see what kinds of mods a lot of us use. I know that Tigress and cme also have blogs with a mod listing they use. PineappleTree's Vibrant Colors will most likely have the green eyes you are looking for.

Thanks, Rage. I have really been limiting myself to the forums (like that doesn't suck up enough time! Aieeee) and need to get out there and so some more exploring -- I didn't realize there were so many other types of user-created content out there.

Riordan barely knows Alistair and he's seems like a very dedicated Warden who expresses annoyance with the fact that Weisshaupt plays politics in their spare time. I think that when Alistiar issued his ultimatum 'It's him or me!', Riordan saw that he wasn't as dedicated to Warden duties as he should have been. Regardless of reason, a Blight was coming and it was the duty of a Grey Warden to face it. Alistiar showed himself willing to leave and Loghain seemed willing to stay. Even if Loghain died in the Joining, all Riordan saw of Alistair was him possibly being party to his rescue at Howe's and then his willingness to walk away from his duty.

Riordan isn't Alistair's friend and I don't think he particularly cares about him, Loghain, or you as people. He's not about to change his mind to try to convince someone willing to abandon their duty to stay and he both lacks the personal connection to make it a difficult choice to let Alistiar walk out and the inclination to take what Loghain did personally and kill him for his crimes. Justified or not, revenge-seeking doesn't really seem Riordan's style and he's been a Warden for too long to let himself get horrified over the crimes of the prospective Wardens.

If Duncan had lived and for whatever reason hadn't been able to travel to Orlais and Alistair issued that ultimatum, I'm pretty sure that he would have done the same thing.
