I imagine the taint would be like having mega PCOS. Many women can still get pregnant with PCOS if they control weight and for some taking things like Meformin etc. So I imagine the taint to be quite an extreme form.

Elysis, I need moral support, test readers, and someone with access to a liquor store!

Here have a Lenya to cheer you on:

Or not...she rarely looks cheery after all.

I could test read as well, I notice if a Dalish character is Dalish enough and if the story flows pretty easily. ^^

Oh heh.

Did not notice the sticker on the door.

Alistair is checking Amera out, and she is wondering why the door is labelled door.

Hellooooo :) *waves to Giggles* Yay, Dalish fistbump.

Is Lenya a rouge or a warrior BTW?

A Lenya is no rouge, nor a warrior. A Lenya simply has her own class: Princess of slice! :P  Nah, she is DW rouge and loving it.I built her more into the stabbity type with two swords though....simply because Lenya adores swords. Even more than cookies. And this means something.

I made Amera a two-handed warrior.

She literally glared at the trainer and grabbed the biggest weapon she could just to shock people.

Its very funny to see someone that small obliterate people with such big weapons.

She will end up wearing the Juggernaut Armor though when I get it.

And because I have neglected the prompts so much in the last time due to my main FF, I has here a freshly written scene from my FF which I adore. It doesn't fit in any of the prompts (where all of you did an awesome job once more) but I thought I share nonetheless. Haven't posted something written with Lenya in ages, so yeah.

It takes part after the DR, on the market place in front of Orzammar. They have justly returned from the cheery, weeks-long trip there.

-----

Alistair stepped outside and gave in to the urge to blink.

Raising his hand to cover his eyes from the light, the Warden took a deep breath of air that wasn't tinged with corruption and decay.

At last.

He paused, listening to the pulsing sound of rain while giving his eyes the needed time to adjust to the daylight.

Daylight.... this thought made him always feel giddy, if it weren't for the freezing cold wind that lashed at him, accompanied by rain that wasn't any warmer. In a way it was good....different....after all the time in the Deep Roads. Still he wasn't fond of the idea to spend much time out here, not when overbearing exhaustion was already clawing at him, trying to draw him in.

Finally he dared to open his eyes and shortly relished at the fact of everything being so bright, simply visible.

That was when Alistair noticed that they were staring at her, his fellow Warden. The gazes of the merchants were lingering wondering, bewildered at the elf and he could see why. Lenya stood unmoving in the middle of the area, heedless of everything and had almost like a statue her hands and head directed toward the sky. She was already throughout drenched by the torrential rain and while he could hear the dwarves cursing the weather, she seemed to completely enjoy it.

And in all its oddness, this thought made him smile.

Slowly he moved closer to her, to his fellow Warden that he knew so few about, but actually wanted to know. He couldn't even explain why, yet somehow this elven woman managed to rekindle his curiosity every time anew, when he was ready to give up on her. Maybe it was her habitually paradoxical manners that were so frustrating but at the same time ...fascinating to him.

Alistair stopped at that thought, dismissing it. Wait...fascinating? Really... brain?

Shaking his head, he walked forward and only inches away from her, he stumbled in a stop. He should have known that with all that scattered equipment on the ground of the commons, that there couldn't be much left that actually clothed her. Yet was actually seeing her in the underlay tunic and breeches of her leather armor a whole other story.

The blackened fabric was drenched as the rest of her...body was and if this wouldn't have been enough already, the Dalish was also bare-footed. Alistair gulped, caught between the chivalry of not to look and his male drive to admire those wonderful wet, clinging clothes, he somehow found his voice.

“Lenya, what are you doing here?”

There wasn't an answer for a long moment, as she remained in her place, unmoving. Then all the sudden she smirked, lips twisting into something of a smile. “Rain. Rain. RAIN!” It sounded excited as if coming from a child discovering the world for the first time, marveling at its wonders. The expression in her face was now thoroughly detached from the sorrow and the heavy burden that had lasted on her tiny shoulders only a few hours ago.

And somehow this made Alistair aware what it was that kept him trying to get to know her, to understand her. It was her positive oddness that was not unlike his own ...and yet so different, that drew him to her. Who else would get so excited about things so little in one moment and could kill someone with her glare only in the other? Alistair chuckled, for no other reason than this thought and her company.

“Yeah, that happens quite often in Ferelden, I've heard.”

Lenya didn't answer, turning her head still, looking at him with the same strange expression that was so unlike everything he knew of her, still smirking, only now more amused. Not knowing what to say to break the silence, his gaze lasted on her, noticing the little fact that he hadn't seen her with her hair open before that now clung to her head, all drenched. He liked it.

An questioning eyebrow raised with amusement, the Dalish seemed to wait, on what he couldn't say for sure. And while he wondered why his eyes and brain didn't connect the way they were supposed to do and kept looking at her, a sound between bubbling and snorting suddenly rose from deep within her throat. Then the sound intensified, shifting into a full laughter that captured him as well.

And so both Wardens laughed together, even if Alistair didn't know the reason for her sudden amusement. A huge part of him didn't even care, because it felt good to just be here and alive and able to laugh, even after all what had happened.
Her chortling and unladylike snorter kindled anew, as Lenya looked at him. Somehow this gave him the hunch that she was laughing over him, instead with him. Again.

“What?” Alistair asked, dreading the answer but was caught in his own curiosity.

“You look like a stupid, drenched, human rat,” she pressed out in between of inhaling and fell into another fit of laughter.

“Riiight. That is too kind of you, really.”

“Naaah, it was needed,” the Dalish shot him a mischievous smile, accompanied by an amused glint in her green eyes that he saw too rarely....and didn't know whether to fear or to admire. “After all the weeks down there, you really reeked.”

“More compliments? You are flattering me, my lady.” Although said in his typical sarcastic fashion, the grin gave away that this conversation was delighting him.

“And by the way, you are to blame if I start to rust and cannot move anymore.”

She tilted her head, curious at that. “How so?”

Heelloo? “ Alistair pointed at his breastplate. “Heavy silverite armor here.”

“And silverite does rust?”

“Err … that is not the point. I'm only out here because you have lain a trail of your things that ended outside. You can't just cast your equipment so carelessly aside, Lenya. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has stolen it by now.”

Lenya only shrugged at that, unimpressed. “I needed to wash, too.”

“While freezing to death? Right. Great idea, that.”

“And besides, whoever is touching that reeking, darkspawn-infested armor of mine must be insane.”

“Or very desperate, huh?” he offered, only half-serious.

She smirked anew. “Exactly. So what is your point, puppy?”

You freezing to death, me freezing to death... if we keep standing here.”

Another shrug. “Better than darkspawn, really.”

He shook his head, still somewhat grinning.“You are impossible, you know that, Lenya?”

“And you are an odd human,” she stated in a dry fashion.

Alistair chuckled. “As said before...you are not the first thinking so.” Reaching for her hand without thinking, he added. “Since we talked about that, can we go back now?”

The Dalish flinched back as if stung by his hand, eyes growing wide while she shook her head repeatedly. “No, no, no return to the stone!”

Looking upward to the sky, a sigh escaped him. “You are aware that we still have to give the crown to Harrowmont to get our troops, right? Which requires to be in Orzammar, actually.”

“Yes, smartass. “She rolled her eyes, then frowned. “It's just...just – ”Sighing, the Dalish stopped her words halfway.

I know, “ he nodded, his tone all sincere now. “ I'm sick of the stone too ...and darkspawn. And alas, we will see both of them soon enough again.”

All prior amusement seemed to fade away from her at once at this thought. “Ugh.”

“Alright, then we stay...”

Lenya furrowed her brows, looking at him confused. “Huh?”

“Here, I mean.” To emphasize his words, he squatted down onto the ground, at best he could in plate armor.

One eyebrow shot up, as well as one corner of her mouth did, somewhat intrigued. “ I thought you would rust then, puppy?”

“Alistair shrugged, grinning up to her. ”I guess I have to risk that then.”

That might be the best motto I have ever heard.
But yeah, I could help you with that - I can give moral support, and read (fairly fast I might add:police:) and as for the liquor, well, unless you live in France I can't really help. Just get cheap red wine, lots of it, and if you hate the taste mix it with coke. 'Tis spanish and "Oghren approved"

Whenever I write my Dalish character, I always wonder if Merisell would approve. Or Lenya, as Lenya is scary at times.

Hey it is not my fault she is like that. I'm just the vessel that types the words down that she is yelling in my head. :innocent: Also there is a Dalish in your story? :o I really need a longer attention span than a squirrel on crack again, so I can actually read some FF's from people here instead to only ramble about my own one.

She isn't really a main character until the second story. I didn't even think she'd appear much in the sequel at first, but I suppose the Dalish can be pushy like that, because she's everywhere.

Completely off-topic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a mod, other than Qwinn's Fixpack, that restores the Jowan quest that should (but doesn't) come up in a random encounter if you let him go at Redcliffe. I'd really like to see it once, but Qwinn's mod breaks so many of my other mods, I can't use it.

O__o Did I offend again? Seem to have a talent for that lately. *rolls eyes*

Umm...since Lenya has developed such a strong voice over the past year, she has a heavy influence on how I perceive a Dalish in a story. That doesn't mean that she is the only true Dalish character existing (not to mention that she isn't a very good one at that with her "screw duty" attitude and her problems with accepting authority) for me. My other Mahariel Alonis (DEM) differs vastly from her in terms of attitude and behavior, hell even his view on the world is different. As for a Dalish in a story, there is no harm in making them more friendly and duty-oriented for example. This doesn't make them less Dalish for me.

I just have a problem with Mahariel's who know all about the humans and their world, didn't seem to miss their clan/old life even once because they have now new toys to play with, or completely forgetting their culture by uttering a shocked "Oh MAKER" (or worse even completely dismissing the different culture as too complicated to write about) And truth to be told I have seen way too many stories already where at least one of those things is happening. Others may not be bothered by it perhaps, but I'm too far deep in the Dalish business with my own FF to be able to ignore that when reading a Mahariel story.

As for Lenya, I just like to ramble about her... that's one of my small joys here while hanging out in an otherwise very sleepy thread lately. Didn't mean to offend. *shrug*

I used the console to get the quest (which worked perfectly), Tigress, no need for a mod -- although that mod sounds pretty good.

# type "runscript zz_ran_debug" (without the quotes) and .
# You will be prompted to select a random encounter type: select "1. Forest".
# You will be prompted to pick an encounter: select "4. Jowan".
# You will be teleported to the Deep Woods, the destination for this quest.

Nah, I understood what you meant. And you are right :P

But actually, Reika didn't mean you with my post. I was lazy and didn't quote Lady D's post, so this is a misunderstanding, I guess. I wrote that long post above in response of Lady's comment, so sorry if it came across the wrong way =]

lol, I wasn't offended.  You'd have to try very, very hard to do that, and then you'd probably just ****** me off before you actually offended me.  It just struck me as one of those "this is the right way to play" dealies, and if that's not what you mean then no harm done.

I know what you mean about certain characterization, when it's so far off it doesn't fit.  Carys is stand-offish until she learns that it's okay to let people in a little (and you have no idea how bad I was freaking out that I might not be able to start the Alistair romance) but she's not rude.

No offense meant to anyone (as in if there are blondes here who do want to look intimidating).

Brunettes have an easier time being intimidating AND sexy to boot.

Oh, okay, so we are good. :)

And obviously, every character is different and it's good to have a game that gives such vast possibilities to form a character's...err...character, lol. I for myself just have just a thing for snarkiness and snarky characters (not for nothing I love Gaider's chars most, heh) So Lenya is just that. As for rudeness it is mixture of self-defense, not knowing how to make better and also a portion of indifference. She has a softer, vulnerable side as well which she only shows people she trusts ...and also many, many issues to overcome. Yep, she is definitely not a perfect Dalish either. At all.

So if I have to categorize my Dalish, then it would be very much this...and nothing like this  ...although Lenya could have ended like her without the people and events around her that influenced her character in the long run.

Aye, I hear you. I can quite remember your frustration with Carys romancing Alistair. Dalish are tough cookies, it seems.
