@KoP - his voice is less annoying and thus I'm not cringing and trying to mute the volume. Are they both great orators? Of course not, but at least Alistair has a reason for not being a good public speaker, the woman groomed to be queen has no excuse. And even if they gave them different speeches and Anora was the greatest speaker in the world, I still would rather have Alistairs' bumbling "Oh this is the part where I speak, right? Ok um..." because at least it doesnt sound as annoying.

And honestly, yes the hero worship does get annoying but either way, it's a fact of the story. Grey Wardens! Hurrah harro!

Someone ToP for me please?

Apparently she was never groomed to lead armies and inspire them (apparently that was Cailan's forte. Ha), but to speak to the Landsmeet which she does properly and adequately. Alistair's line which you have just quoted is more annoying to me than any screeching voice.

Cailan...hahaha.

Moving on, I did public speaking for a few years (in the form of debate and hey I made it to Nationals twice so I couldnt be that bad, eh?) and I admit that I did wince at Alistairs' speech simply because it's not what you expect to hear in a political theatre, and especially not from the man that you just made King.

But, on the other hand, Anora, while speaking eloquently before the landsmeet in an attempt to either A) Take over the throne by siding with Loghain to have you and Alistair killed or B) remove her father from the equation to claim the throne, is more annoying to me because of how her voice sounds.

And two pretty ladies for my ToP, woohoo!

Hehe, my reaction always.

I think my speech in front of the French embassy for my high school graduation party was good too. But then again, it's French. You can make anything sound eloquent with it.

I just find both of them very meh and annoying in different ways.
Nothing like say: This.

Cailan is just.... ugh. When I first met him in game I ranted for a half hour to my roommate about how "DID HE JUST ACT DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE HE WOULDNT GET TO FIGHT IN A BLIGHT?! THE THINGS THAT DESTROY ENTIRE COUNTRIES AND KILL MILLIONS?! IS HE INSANE?!?!!?!?!" When he was killed I laughed evilly

I always wanted to learn French just because of the eloquence in the language, even when you're insulting people. Kind of like (for the most part) a British accent is always polite, especially when Im getting insulted.

I did Lincoln Douglas Debate, which is essentially a 1 on 1 Values Debate. It was a lot of fun and got me very interested in philosophy, especially socio-political side of it. Mill and Locke were dear dear friends those years.

Well there is a different between that and an attempted inspiring speech. Most if not all inspiring speeches, if put under scrutiny, almost have no meaning and can sound idiotic even. But it's the choice of words (fail in DA:O) and delivery (meh to fail in DA:O) that makes a speech inspiring and not really its content.

A debate is *supposed* to try to be convincing vs persuasive. Of course telivised debates end up appealing to sentiments and not reason most of the time, because in telivised debates your job is not to convince your opponent, but to persuade the viewers.

@KoP in my debate style, it's supposed to be persuasive. The idea is to create this grand ideal of a place that is achieved either through affirming or negating the resolution. You create the ideal through your Value Premise, and you achieve it through your Criterion. You then have to bring the judge along into believing that this world you say you can create by doing A, B, and C is far superior to the status quo or what the negative is proposing.

Also did Original Oratory which was a 7-10 minute original speech that you had to memorize and present. That was difficult, just because there was such a wide range of things you were allowed to speak on and some topics didnt score with judges (for example, I used the word "Sheeple" in one of mine and while one judge found it hilarious and clever, the other was not amused....)

@KoP

http://en.wikipedia....c_League#Events <-- these are all the events in High School debate.
Proud lifetime member of the NFL am I :D

Unfortunately, in college mostly it's a lot of Individual Events like Humorous Interpretations and Duo Interpretations, while the debate options focus on Parliamentary Debate and Policy Debate though you can find NFA LD in colleges and universities that offer them.

Three hours! See, this is what happens when you discuss debating. Lordy, might as well talk about torte reform. To remedy this, I shall make a new picture in the toolset. Back in a bit....

Lol, sorry. I had to say something to save us from page 2 and I was all by my lonesome.... I shall remember to treat such matters with due respect in future and save mu jokes for more trivial things.
Wow, that was an hour ago that I went to make this picture? Well, that's what happens when I have to make the level and the area before I can start. Ah, well....

Yeah the speeches that Anora and Alistair make leave a lot to be desired.

I try to ignore them the best I can.

lol errant, that sounds like me and my FF. "Oh, I'll write a quick bit about my warden's PoV". Ye-ah, at 100K+ words later I'm still not done and have just gone off on my own little tangent...

Well my 200k words WIP- FF was originally planned as short Drabble-series :innocent:  But then Lenya slapped me across the face and commanded me to write the whole thing, so I had no other choice. No kidding.

Anyway, I'm so glad to have a gaming-capable PC now, because my XBox has died once more the RROD-death and since I'm out of warrenty is now only a pile of electro garbage anymore.Anyone wants a 360 that flashes funny lights but nothing more? Drop me a message, lol.

Well it lasted at least four years and is one of the old builds that were prone for the heat-death anyway. Though now with my new PC I can shrug, start DA and call it a day. Will get the XBOX slim next month though because my 60 games are pretty useless without a console to play it.

Mine did the same, and I bought a slim. However, it's collecting dust now that I have DA:O on the PC. The mods were just to tempting to resist. The most I use it for atm is to watch netflix while I'm playing.

My old model 360 bit the dust a few months ago after 4 and a half loyal years of service. I'll always think fondly of Becca..... but I did smash it out of frustration after I got the new Slim >.> <.<

Hey, this is probably extremely old news, but did you guys know Steve Valentine was the host of that SyFy channel show Estate of Panic?  It only ran for like 1 season, but I remember watching the whole thing with my husband.  That was before DA:O came out, I guess.

I was just reading about some reality shows on TV Tropes and was like "HEY! Alistair!"

EDIT:  One of the contestants refers to him as "vampire-y guy".  XD

I am sure heard Alistair on telly today! Being home sick I had the tv on in the living room and I came into the bedroom to look something up online and I could hear him chatting away. It was very surreal I thought maybe the cats had hit the xbox button or something. I don't know what the show was unfortunately....not the estate...it was a British freeview channel. By the time I got back in the living room he was gone.

EDT: just watched estate link someone also calls him "tall dark and creepy" hahaha

My 360 is starting to freeze more and more due to overheat. I've had her for 4 years!:crying:

And if it dies on me, my wardens won't be able to take care of Ali !!
