@Glor - Yep, that's something a long the lines of how I saw it happening. I thought he got of way too easy. :)

@Marie - In order for Alistair to initiate tent time, he has to be 90 approval and did his personal quest. Otherwise you can invite him after 70 approval.

Edit: Crud, ToP

I always wanted to have the dialogue option to swoop in and sweep that soldier off her feet infront of Daveth. Just for the hilarity of speaking with him right afterwards.

You know, looking at DA2, Im honestly not very excited about companions. While Im glad to have the only good Healer I ever had in a game with me, we never really got to know Anders because Awakening did that stupid ass "be near a statue or keg or picture to activate a conversation, otherwise sod it you get nothing until we give it to you" dialogue stuff so I dunno what that'll be like. Not to mention I have absolutely no interest in walking around with the jailbait or the female knight (Arcane Warrior needs no Knight *feh*) Varric may be interesting just for his giant crossbow of doom, and I feel like Fenris will be Zevran without the whole "jump anything that moves" thing which just isnt much fun.

I think you're way off on Fenris. As far as I know, the guy doesn't like to be touched, which would make being promiscuous pretty difficult.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my pic after I went to bed last night! I'm glad so many of you found it evocative.

That's what I meant Errant by the whole "without the jump anything that moves" thing

He's going to be an elf with an accent with a terrible past of being a slave and forced to do what he doesnt want to do. Instead of tattoos, he has lyrium. *shrugs*

Oh, sorry! I read that wrong. Only one cup of coffee. ;)
I think they'll be making a concerted effort to make these characters noticably different from DA:O. Thing is, for me that has a downside, since I liked Alistair so very much. If you're purposely making characters who aren't like him, you're quite probably making a character that I'll like less. Still, I'm confident that the writing will be good. Too bad the graphic style makes my eyes bleed.

I can count on the writing being good with Gaider and his team, Im in the same boat as you that I liked Alistair and Morrigan and Sten the best out of every companion of every RPG Ive ever played (except for HK47) and Im going to miss that, I hope we get to see Sten again, and this OGB thing finally getting resolved.... Granted, I have to finish this playthrough to finally do WitchHunt so I have no idea where my warden will be....

I do hope that Gaider, if he does write another novel, that he writes about all what happened to Alistair as he grew up. We have an idea and the how he became a Grey Warden, but I just love reading Gaiders novels. I sometimes to back to the pages i've marked because those are my favorite parts. XD

I was planning on having a similar scene in my story that Im kicking around (waiting to hear from meri for some help with making my Dalish clan seem dalishy for the first chapter) with my Mahariel mage :-D

The events at Ostagar will take longer than a day not to mention I plan on having my Mahariel mage being sent with the contingent of mages to the Kings camp to aid in the initial battles against the Darkspawn and have him and Daveth walking through the camp and Mahariel getting called and waved at by a bunch of the women.

"I dont get it, you're an elf AND a mage! You should be a feared pariah of this camp, not bedding every woman in it! What's your secret?"

*waggles eyebrows and smirks* "Magic fingers."

Good, I'm relieved to hear that. Lenya had the funny convo with Shale today and is making some things clear to the golem.B)

So. Very. Much. Fitting. For. Her.

I love it. As much as I love the "I like swords too" convo with Sten.

Gaah, screw DA2, I have still not enough of Origins

I just read a fic called This is Going to Hurt by Clariana. Alistairs' execution. :(

I have cried exactly twice while reading before tonight. One, was at the end of Return of the King at The Grey Havens. The other was Dumbledores' death.

But goddammit, I cried while reading that story. :crying:

I just read that two days ago and it was indeed poignant. And well done. *sniff*

@Silver -- Twix?! You mean Bioware didn't pay SV enough to keep our hero out of commercials?! Gah!

For those of you who have been keeping up with the Dan and Alistair saga, this next one delves into the Dan character before the joining, the Tower of Ishal, and the defeat of the armies at Ostagar. Here you will see him as he was, arrogant and cocky. Full pride. After Ostagar he grows up and realizes that he must change in order to become who his father wanted him to be. These traits you have seen, here is a glimpse at him before his epiphany:

Ostagar

Dan sat at the nurses' station while his left hand was being attended. He had just returned a short time ago from the Korcari Wilds with Alistair, Daveth, and Jory. They had finished the first part of their joining ritual by collecting three vials of darkspawn blood, and had also retrieved some ancient scrolls. To get these last pieces they had met a mysterious woman and her daughter. Flemeth was her name, and she seemed quite odd to him. Her daughter was quite attractive, and had circumstances been different, he might have taken an interest in her. But those thoughts were for another time as the second part of their joining would take place soon near dusk.

The nurse completed the bandaging of his hand when Alistair approached the area. He had received little injuries beyond a couple of scrapes and bruises. Dan was quite impressed by the young former templar. The other two companions were off somewhere fretting about the upcoming part of the ritual, but Dan was calm and relaxed. Neither of them had anything beyond minor injuries beyond Jory's pride. The nurse let Dan leave just as Alistair got to where he was sitting.

"I see you are finished. That was quite the little wound you got there. Serves you right, I suppose. You are supposed to use weapons when fighting darkspawn, not your fists," Alistair said with a sly grin.

"Riiiight. Someone had to get that genlock off your back. And since my dagger was stuck in the head of another one, all I had was my fist. "

"I wanted to say thank you for that, by the way. Really. I didn't even see him there."

"Any time. I want to say thank you for blocking that arrow with your shield. I may be quick, but not that quick."

Both men looked at each other and grinned. "Then I guess we are even. How's the hand? Any worse for wear?"

"Nothing major, and nothing that will stop me from being at full speed when we get to the battle tonight. Have you checked on Daveth or Jory yet? I would, but after that little incident in the Wilds, I doubt Jory would want to speak to me for a while."

"Daveth is twisted in knots about the joining. And Jory is off skulking. He was not pleased by what you did. Why did you knock him over for, anyway?"

"The man would not shut up! If I had to hear one more time about his pregnant wife, I would have done more than just knock him on his ass."

"So the man is about to be a proud father. What is the harm in that?" Alistair queried.

Dan played with the bandage on his hand. "Not in the think of the battle. He kept talking while he should have been fighting. 'How many darkspawn can we slay? A dozen? A hundred' Maker's breath at his pace he'd be lucky to kill one for every four the rest of killed ourselves. So I pushed him out of my way. I mean really. How did he get recruited again?"

"Well, Duncan said that he..." Alistair trailed off as both men noticed Daveth approaching the nursing area. He was doubled over and walking very slowly. "Daveth? What happened to you?"

"Yeah. Alistair said you were off thinking about the rest of the joining."

Daveth coughed as he tried the reply. "Well, I was until I saw this lovely young lady over by the quartermaster's. I thought why not get some loving time in before...well...before the rest of the ritual."

Alistair and Dan looked at each other, and then asked together, "And?"

"Did you know the quartermaster is married. I didn't, but I do now," Daveth replied as he sat down on the bed next to the nurse. He looked up at Dan and accusingly remarked, "And this is your fault. You were the one who told me earlier she was very attractive. You could have told me she was married."

Dan shrugged as Alistair looked shocked. "You were hitting on a married woman? And you, Dan, knew and didn't tell him?"

"Serves him right I say," Dan replied as he turned to leave. "Hitting on every woman in camp. Got them all so mad before I got here I never even stood a chance."

"So this is kind of like the same thing you did to Jory?"

"Yep," Dan said as he continued to walk away. "I don't like people getting in my way."

Good job, Rage. I was thinking through the whole thing that he's not so bad, he seems to be getting on well with Alistair...but the last line really highlights the intent and arrogance.

Thanks. I played him arrogant through Ostagar, Even when his family was killed, he was not really changed except his familial bonds were scarred. But his own mortality was still not evident to him. After he did this, and their subsequent death's, he begins to doubt himself. And after the rescue by Flemeth he is full of self doubt and becomes very aware of his own mortality. It's his first meeting with Leliana that begins his path to becoming the man the other writings have shown. Ostagar basically becomes his pivotal point of when he grows up and becomes a man instead of a boy.
