@Addai - Im honestly hoping for a reaction if I use Blood Magic, that's all. In my Mahariel Mage story is going to have an interesting Blood Mage "coming out" as it were. Which will lead to his conscription into the Grey Wardens.

*Shakes hand, presses down on the second knuckle of the thumb and presses a finger down into the palm*:bandit:

I played my Dalish mage as a blood mage, too.  So very interested to see Merrill's story, not just for that angle but to see a romance played out from the other side as it were, since my character ran after the shem.

*raises hand to nose, wiggles fingers*  :bandit:  the templars will never know!!!

Im watching PC demo footage.... and I feel sad. It looks and feels like Mass Effect. The dialogue wheel is labeled by happy, jester, or frowny red face. The armor all looks like cloth.

Except for the cutscenes and the writing, this is not the Dragon Age I loved *sniffle*

@Alisgirl - You'll have to forgive me for not having a reference link but originally, Alistair was supposed to be older (toolset has his age listed as 32). His personality was also much more gruff; from what I understand a very no-nonsense kind of guy. However, that didn't go over well in the test group and he came off as pushy and bossy, from what I understand. So, Gaider and team re-wrote his character, making him younger and more sensitive. Hence his corny sense of humor, his "unhardened state", and his openness in showing his emotions.
Kinda ironic that those who don't like Alistair find the most fault with his lack of spine and emotionalism, isn't it? Guess it just proves you can't please everyone all the time. LOL

Wow, thanks for the info. I'd never have guessed that they'd done a rewrite. On one hand I'm not a fan of focus groups or "design by committee," but on the other hand I am very much a fan of iterative design and development in software. I guess what Bioware did falls somewhere in the middle.

I saw the footage and I still got a DRAGON AGE  vibe so I will have to respectfully disagree. You can't judge a game buy a few moments of footage.

On the bright side, this should spell the end for picking a dialogue option and then having the game totally disagree on what that means. It happened to me a few times in DA but much more often in ME where you only see part of the dialogue choice. I REALLY hope that they'll have a romantic face next to romantic lines so I don't find myself in a romance with someone I don't want to be (*cough* Liara *cough*).

For some reason I can't help but wonder if Cailan had something to do with Duncan rescuing Alistair from being a Templar. I know he comes across as an idiot but he does seem to care enough about Alistair to want to keep him out of the battle. Even Duncan states that his lighting the beacon is by the king's command.

Another possibility is for Duncan to know that Alistair was unhappy way before he recruited him. He could have been keeping tabs on Alistair waiting for the boy to get to the right stage of training and age.

I'm only saying this because my husband didn't have much to do with raising our boys but he did keep in touch with their school to see how they were doing.

I had to stop watching trailers and reading interviews about a month ago. It was making it impossible for me to convince myself to buy the game.

@Melca - Was the darkspawn feel because the darkspawn were in it? The hurlocks look...weird in this one. I swear, my friend owns a paintball/airsoft mask that looks just like it.

I mean dont get me wrong, Im still going to play the game... but the combat looks so fast, even in the part 2. I know that many complained that the combat felt slow in DA:O but now it kinda feels like Devil May Cry without the plethora of jump attacks.

Glad I'm playing a mage..

I don't care for the voiced PC or the super-fast combat animations, but I'm optimistic.

BTW you might be interested in videos I uploaded of the blood mage confrontation with Wynne in the Tower.  One where you pass the Persuade check, one where you don't.  I love it that my mage starts out the fight by saying "can't we all get along"?  ROFL

Pity I don't have Alistair in the party.  I don't think he has any dialogue, though.  I'll see if I can get that.  You can change out party members after the Fade, right??

Oh, and this is the same PC using blood magic to save Wynne's ass while she's half-dead and paralyzed.  :wizard:

@Addai ~ I like it! But... I thought that the Grey Wardens were outside the rule of the Chantry. And that Maleficar who were Grey Wardens could not be touched by the Chantry?

The Chantry makes its own rules, as you can see.

Well, you can't change out party members so I'd have to replay quite a bit to get Alistair in there. *urgh* Too late tonight.

If Cailan himself can't be a GW (and we all know that he wants to be) then having his half-brother be one might be the next best thing.

See, if the Grey Wardens dont protect the Blood Mage, part of my story idea wont work.

See, I was planning on the big reveal of him being a Blood Mage to the general know happening at Ostagar.  The King is out on the field with the Revered Mother looking in on the dead and those too wounded to move off the battlefield until after they die. Darkspawn charge after spotting the golden ponce, Cailan and his honor guard come under attack, and one of the two Templars are killed by a Genlock.

Mahariel Mage starts a grease fire in front of the area to funnel the Darkspawn towards him and bravely orders everyone to gather behind him and casts spell after spell in the defense of Fereldens King, the revered mother serving at Ostagar, and the wounded soldiers before running out of mana. Panicking as an Ogre charges the line, he uses his dagger to draw a slight amount of blood before summoning up the blood of the bodies before him and gathering it into a large blood spear that is infused with crackling bolts of lightning and solidified with winters grasp and propels it forward through the chest of the Ogre before passing out from the ordeal.

He comes too hours later in the medical tent with a templar sword pressed to his throat and the King and Revered Mother arguing over whether he should be killed or not when Duncan steps in and conscripts him. Mahariel mage snags his phylactery, thanks the King for defending him and flips the Revered Mother off before following Duncan towards the Grey Warden camp.
~End Scene~

Because honestly, if Blood Magic is going to be oh so terrible, it had better be capable of doing some insane things.

I think that GWs accepting blood mages is kind of an open secret. They can't actually admit to it (and when you can't deny Wynne's allegations in the cut blood mage confrontation, Greagoir reluctantly tries to arrest you) but the higher-ups all know. I think that the fewer people who actually see the blood magic, the better chance of it being overlooked. Of course, the Revered Mother won't even let mages light a freaking beacon so the odds of her not trying to start trouble later seem small. Although there's always the possibility she pretends to accept it, decides to make trouble when she's back in Denerim, and dies before she gets a chance to (with or without getting the chance to tell someone who survives about this. Would Loghain know? Think what he could do with that information while declaring you an outlaw).

See, everyone who witnessed it is going to die a painful painful death =D So everyone wins!!!!

But actually, I thought of having Loghain release that information since it would make things interesting for my Warden to try and enter a civilized area. Wandering around Denerim with his hood up, accusations from Loghain at the Landsmeet that he's controlling Alistairs and Eamons minds....

You know, that would actually be too impossible. Nothing would get done and they would be killed the minute they enter Civilized Ferelden. Damn. Scrap that plan.

You ruined my plan with logic Sarah. I cry

Visit number two! I think the thing that makes me nervous about DA2 is that none of my favourite characters are returning... Alistair being one of the main ones... *sigh*

Edit: I'm sorry but I HAVE to ask -- am I the only who thinks of body fluids when I read gush thread?

@Fenris - I'm looking forward to DA2. I'm ready for a change of scenery. I'll probably still find myself back playing DAO for my Ali and Zev fixes, but I'm ready to try something new. I do wish it had been Nate vs Anders from Awakening though -- although I do like Anders and can easily see romancing him, I would have preferred a chance to break through Nate's shell.
