I heard the voice and smiled, because Mama *******(not a curse word) was one of my favorite NPCs in Origins.

That being said, I didnt feel anything towards the characters. When The Death happens I literally just laughed at the "Noooo!! *insert name*!" because I had no emotional attachment to anyone at that point.

In Origins, I felt something the entire time, because I could actually interact with Characters. DA2 so far looks to me like it's going to be a game I come to to work out my future-arthritis and practice my speed tapping and go replay Origins for the story telling and character development/depth

I was NOT expecting the death I saw. It hurt:(

And seriously, we've seen an HOUR of it. The beginning and ONE partial quest. You can't really judge the story, or the interaction yet because that improves further in from what I understand. *shrugs* I'm excited, I know theres more than this, and I'm anxiously finishing my awakening playthroughs for import.

Maybe it's just because I'm what my grandmother describes as "a cold-hearted bastard" but the demo didnt give me the time or opportunity to care about who was with me at that point, so I didnt. I wouldnt have known they were my brother or sister if it wasn't mentioned *shrugs*

What I meant by a JRPG was that Im dashing across the room to hit a darkspawn that's 12 feet away from me in the space of half a second, insanely fast combat speed, crazy jumping attacks, and a strong emphasis on look over depth ( I say that because I can't friggen talk to the characters. The Death happens and I didnt feel remotely connected to the person at all. *shrugs*)

Oh. This. So. Very. Much.

The fighting animations are way over the top for me and one of the things that are bothering me ingame. It feels more like playing Devil May Cry than Dragon Age then, really. Then again, I'm no huge fan of fighting in Origins either (always play on easy to get the fighting quickly out of the way) I play Bioware games for the story, not for the hot rod samurai action.

Also yeah Carvers death...I was like...Well I should suppose to be sad now, right?" Umm no.

*Shrugs and stabs Ogre with exaggerated moves*

I watched Laidlaw's new interview today on gamespot and those exaggerated moves, the charges, leaps and rushes? They take the place of the "someone shoved a stick up my arse" shuffle we used to do between monsters. I'd much prefer to leap
. The mage is a-maz-ing.

Agreed.  Totally.

@Jon Jern

Agree with all of your points, also going to add (for those Mages who selected the freedom boon) and whether or not you annulled the Tower. I see that having a big effect in Templar Town *shrugs*

~~~~~~~~~
And also, I realize it's a demo. But when the demo wants me to feel an emotional impact from something, it had better invest itself in making that reaction plausible or even possible. It didnt.
I played as a mage. I died the first time at the fight where the sibling dies. Then i tried again by kiting the hurlocks while Aveline worked on the ogre. Forget Carver, he dies too fast or else i just don't know how to build a 2hander for DA2 yet. Frankly, I had a lot of fun playing a mage (then an S&S warrior). That one fight I kite the mobs on the mage (Either PC or Bethany) and its a piece of cake. Aveline is tough enough to stay up long enough for the overlong Heal spell to recharge and dropping fireballs at intervals on the mobs chasing the controlled character, having the other person chasing the mobs being kited and thwacking them.
Took a little more strategy than i am used to but brought back memories of my old Druid EQ days.
In all, I enjoyed the demo. Looking forward to the main game (wherein I think we will get more interaction). This was too short to expect whole plotlines and dialogues.
The same can be said of every origin in Origins.  For all that people are attached to them, you spend very little time with family like the Couslands or Soris and Shianni.  People respond to them because they're able to RP the story in their heads.
This.
I didn't get attached to anything the first few playthroughs. It was like "oh thats nice, how sweet". But when I started letting my imagination get into it, I was playing a whole new game.
@LadyD, but in those Origins you also have the actual ability to walk up to them and choose dialogue options to get a better idea for the character. Depending on what you pick you maybe have 5 minutes of talking with your family and all we learned in that time was that Carver was at ostagar, Bethany has been hiding from Templars, and your mother and father built their entire lives in Lothering and lost it all. Oh, and that there's an estate in Kirkwall.
You didnt get to have the conversation about avoiding marriage with Soris or talking with Fergus and Momma Cousland.
I'm perfectly capable of RPing a story in my head, but not when I dont know anything about the people who are apparently my family. I suppose I could always make my past up like I suggest to Alistair about his Templar training, but saying "Me and Carver are rivals because Father was always proud of me for being such a powerful mage" isnt going ot happen when I wasnt given the opportunity to speak to Carver and find out anything about his character beyond the paragraph of dialogue he has.
And to get off the "bash the guy being critical of what we've seen so far" train, I do like the new mage combat system, though the Ogre fight was an interesting mix of "oh my god oh my god run away quick, fireball! ****, start running again!"
Whenever theres something new and shiny you'll have likes and dislikes and the likes feel like their parade is getting rained on by the dislikes who feel like their being beat up by the likes.  It's a vicious circle really.
In this case, I just don't think we are seeing enough to form an opinion beyond mage combat is awesome, Flemeth looks amazing, and Varric has awesome chest hair. They may have used parts that combat and narrative was finished for and dialog wasn't. Maybe there really is no more than we see, maybbe there's more, but I'll reserve judgement on immersion and story until the real deal is on my desk.
Until then...
