Yeah I am thinking about doing the US while romancing Alistair...  It just seems so sad.  I did the US as an elf and had Loghain spared and boy that was a nasty ending.

Losing your love, or having loghain spared?

Wow. What an ending. May I ask, was Alistair King and wedded to Anora? Does he still give the speech and if so was it different (more heartbreaking) than the US speech? I am thinking about a new Alistair playthrough myself today.

@Giggles- How about both? It's doable. xD

@hollirae- Now that's just tragic. :crying: I tend to save a lot (and I mean a lot) when I play so I can cover all possible endings. I'll definitely try for US again, but Redeemer still remains canon for my HNF, even though I haven't had the guts to go through with it all the way yet. Someday...

Can you marry Alistair as a HNF and spare loghain?

Or no dice.

Alistair was king and wedded to Anora and he WAS NOT HAPPY And what made it worse is that Anora gave the funeral speech....Posted ImagePosted Image...It was even worse to talk to him if you let Loghain kill the AD....BAD BAD BAD

I cannot imagine what would be worse for Alistair (loose love or Loghain spared).

If nothing else, Alistair is free to turn down his potential consort and if you just spared Loghain he wouldn't dream of agreeing to marry you two seconds later. Plus if Anora's not on the throne then Alistair will have Loghain killed.

Just because he doesn't marry you doesn't mean he doesn't love you. Love isn't as clear-cut as that. So sparing Loghain and doing US would be the double whammy.

But given the choice that you either marry him and die or spare Loghain and live. Hmm... I wonder. He did make it seem like he didn't give a flying **** about anything or anyone anymore if you went for the latter, so I guess sparing Loghain hits him harder? And if he still loves the Warden, which is highly likely, I imagine the pain can only get worse as time goes on.

Yeah, if you spare Loghain and have a joint Anora-Alistair on the throne so he's still around and do the US he won't even be the one to give your eulogy. It's been awhile so I can't remember but...does he even show up in those circumstances?

Like Hespith says, only thing worse than death is betrayal. I'd think he'd be more pissed at the warden for her betrayal (I know this is debatable, but in the eyes of Alistair, it's betrayal regardless of the PC's motivations for sparing Loghain) than Loghain's betrayal because the warden was also his great love. I had hoped to see the drunk/betrayal story continue in some fashion to see if there was a chance at redemption later or blah blah blah, but I suspect the romance flag is turned off at that point and any game imports won't record the fact that he was in a relationship with the warden, just that he left angry at Landsmeet. I'm inclined to just redo my ending and have it be the GW ending if we are not likely to see our wardens again. (That would make all our arguing about the dark ritual or picking Harrowmont/Bhelen mean squat. There isn't even a default dwarf king if you create a new character for the GoA DLC.)

He's at the funeral as Anora's armcandy, basically.

I have not been able to either, romancing Alistair or not. The look on his face is heart wrenching and I always give in. maybe someday...

Well under those circumstances the Loghain issue has ensured that you're no longer friends.

I refuse to believe that he can't suck it up enough to give a damn that his comrade and, possibly someone he was in love with, died to save his country. It's ridiculous.

So is abandoning the entire country, his order, and any of his friends.
Then becoming a drunk.

My opinion of it is that he no longer sees the warden as someone he ever should have loved. They aren't who he thought they were, not if they can spare Loghain. He can no longer stand to be around them, and he really can't be in a group that has Loghain in it, going into battle with him or being in the same camp.

I feel that way about Exiled Alistair, but King Alistair should have a bit of closure on the whole thing (when you talk to him after the Landsmeet and the coronation he's pissed but not wishing you dead or anything).

I was just being general.  Posted Image

But in the case of a US ending, as king it should really be him giving the eulogy at a state funeral.  I could see him not wanting to do it, however, simply because his feelings would be complicated.  Better to just let Anora give the usual smarm that politicians spew at such affairs.  The game probably assumes that most people sparing Loghain don't care much for Alistair and don't want to hear from him.

There's a big difference between not wishing someone dead, and anything beyond that. Even at the Landsmeet, he doesn't say he wished he could kill you or anything. He's got a pretty good hate on, though. I see that tempering with time, and being mixed with a whole lot of pondering of what went wrong, and how it could have come to that, but while he might learn to tolerate the PC's presence--with a LOT of time, I think friendship or more is water that's way under the bridge.
