Yeah, I'm thinking that the wardens of Weisshaupt would feel differently about involvement that ended with a very necessary warden--only one of two--barely surviving than they would about one that led to a warden running the country. One would have been a risk with no reward and no benefit to the wardens, while the other would put them in a better position than they'd been in since Sophia rebelled against the king.Lady Jess wrote...

Hmm... I wonder what he's referring to there? Because the order doesn't seem to have any problem with him being king when he is--I expect they'd be thrilled to have their position in Ferelden so secure, and the First Warden is very interested in the Wardens having political power in Amaranthine. We're also told that the wardens in the Anderfels effectively rule. Orzammar, maybe?erilben wrote...
All that Grey Warden Alistair says is that they are on an important mission, and they can't tell you what it is. Even if they were not on the mission, they still would not help because Wardens are neutral. That the last time they got involved, the order wasn't happy.
Aside from the throne, we got involved in political issues twice. Orz as mentioned, and the Civil War itself. If it's warden Alistair saying this then it makes sense. I have yet to import my real wardens until bugs are fixed. My inner Brosca would start a war if Zev hit on Hawke. And my Chancellor Amell import is one of my favorites too, so that kinda sucks. I've been using a save generator to play.

Well I don't know about barely surviving? We both came out pretty well in my Dalish playthrough. But we did get involved in the landsmeet of Ferelden, and who should be on the throne there. And we did the same in Orzammar. Deciding on ruler of a dwarven city is bad enough, but getting involved in the middle of something as huge as a country wide civil war are another story.
I have yet to see GW Alistair. Which is fine, as I've yet to find a face that doesn't make me go

I suppose there is the Arling of Amaranthine, which I suppose didn't necessarily go well, but that was a decision made the monarch of Ferelden and the Grey Wardens more or less went along with it...

Another thing to remember is that neither of them really spent that much time in the Grey Warden Order, especially the Hero of Ferelden, who was calling the shots. For all intents and purposes he was a Warden-in-name-only.

Name only? No. they take the joining, sense the darkspawn, deal with the nightmares from the start and eventuallly learn they'll die young and likely childless. Definitely NOT name only.

But did they ever interact with the Grey Warden Order during the Blight? Not at all. There really was no indoctrination into the Warden's belief systems - all that happened was a quick drink and then came the battle that killed those who were supposed to teach you what the Wardens were about and stood for.

Alistair had at least six months with them, so you got his knowledge from that time. And he wasn't solitary, he carried on with them, drank with them, and such. Really the only thing we didn't know was WHY only we could end the blight.

Well, he knew they sometimes did unpleasant things. He even knew what some of those things were. But putting those things into practice is a whole lot different than knowing them. And while some of the choices in the game that Alistair objects to may be things that more experienced wardens might have an easier time with, I think it can be argued that some are not. ie the deal with Kolgrim which is hinky at best. And I think the place the line is drawn would differ from warden to warden. All would kill those tainted by the blight, including Alistair, but all would not necessarily feel that dealing with blood mages was woth the risk, for example.Glorfindel709 wrote...
If the Wardens are the ultimate pragmatists in regards to the Blight, Alistair *clearly* missed some GW 101 classes in his first 6 months :-p
