Heh, the easiest way is to just have a picture with an arrow.
'That there? We like that----->'picture of Alistair looking awesome'
Kidding! But I will make a toolset picture for the FAQ. :)

PS. Tried to be helpful and think of an adjustment, but I haven't had enough coffee yet, clearly. I couldn't think of anything that would fit both hardened King Alistair and unhardened Warden Alistair. *gets coffee to become smarter*

Oops! ToP! Uh.... BRB.... Back!

What I really wanted to know if in principle people thought this was a good idea. I just set up a Q&A as an example not as a final text.

A picture is fair enough but not everyone likes unmodded Ali (although I do) and some of us dislike some of the mods. But in any event there can be a FAQ covering mods and beasties such as the Alicorn etc...

Heh, point taken with a pic. I guess just about everything to do with Alistair is nebulous, huh? That does make an FAQ challenging, doesn't it? Of course, that very fact might be the tack to take, the way he fits so many disparate views, and is still so popular. Less mention of that damned Alicorn the better, though. ;) We can all agree on the quality of the writing (except for that one woman with the rant threads, heh) and on the excellence of the acting.

I just got to the part where Hawke meets King Alistair. He told her, "You remind me of someone I once knew."

And then he said, "I suppose I should get back to the old ball and chain. Just because she killed the Archdemon doesn't mean she scares me."

...What? My imported Warden died.

What! I never got that line. I thought he just didn't have any to recognize a dead romanced Warden. Although that one had broken up with him at the Landsmeet, so maybe that's what did it. Although I think he has a "still in love" flag then, because he'll still sacrifice himself. Hmm.

Grey Warden Alistair's cameo is awesome. Although I had a "Shouldn't he be using a sword instead of a mace?" moment. I kind of wished he still had Duncan's shield.

My new mage and Alistair are about to fight the ogre in the Tower of Ishal. And after all these playthroughs, Daveth's flirting, Alistair's dancing the Remigold line, and Duncan's sigh are still funny.

Or maybe I'm just easily entertained. =]

Edit: *punches social networker uploader for not uploading characters* They're not level 3!

I really enjoyed the King Alistair cameo--well, except for the way he looked--highlight of the game for me, and chock full of information. But I figured that Alistair would enjoy tweaking his queen that way, it rather fits his snarky sense of humor--and the fact that he has a queen to tease. The real reason was probably that they couldn't be othered to record/pay for different lines for an Anora marriage, or a political marriage at dislike, and a love match.

They had Alistair using a mace? Wow. They really didn't give a crap about details, did they?

He still had a shield though. I'm just so used to seeing him with a longsword that it looked strange to me. And he looks more like he did in Origins in the Warden cameo because the lighting makes his hair look more like its original color instead of that orange. Ugh.

I know some people turn him into a DW, but has anyone in here actually given him anything other than a longsword to use with a shield?

I loved the "she doesn't scare me" line. And Teagan's response. :)

Before I started re-spec'ing him to DW, I would sometimes give him the Aodh axe, which is a pretty good weapon you can get fairly early. Don't see how it is OOC that a warrior would use different types of weapons.

Not to mention that his concept art shows him as a dual wielder.  B)

In my last few DA:O playthrus, Alistair used neither sword nor axe. His weapon of choice was mind bullets !!! *coughskillallhostilescough*

That's right. I cheat. I cheat like the dickins. Wut now? lol

And by "cheat," you mean the Warden was so ridiculously awesome that his/her mere presence caused bandits, darkspawn, and spiders to die instantly.

I've never used one-handed axes with anybody except Sigrun. Everyone sticks with their starting weapon type, except Leliana, who immediately gets a bow (unless she comes with one as her secondary weapons set-can't remember).

Alistair always ends up with Duncan's shield and, depending on the Warden and whether he's going to be king or not, Duncan's Sword, Maric's Blade, or the Keening Blade.

I usually keep him with Topsider's Honor until he can get Duncan's sword or Maric's. Seens like the sentiment behind it is something he'd like. My PC sure likes the Keening blade, though!

I generally keep him use the Warden sword, just occasionally upgrading it to higher tiers through the sell/save/reload/buy back thing.

His default weapon? You can upgrade that with that trick?

Aye, it works on most of the generic items actually -- they don't have single defined material they use, but instead it's a range like say, "all metals" or "steel or silverite". If such item is held in a container or by a vendor then when you load/visit this area the game decides what tier of material the item should have, based on the level of your character.

So if you place such item in a container or sell it to the vendor, save the game, then load that save and open the container, the item is likely to upgrade itself.

Some items are defined to only come in single material version and these won't upgrade. But that's usually the top end things like the rare armour sets.

In my "canon" game Alistair's sword has eventually upgraded to silverite item with two rune slots, so that's what he has Image IPB

Oh, that's cool. I thought that trick only worked with the DLC items. Awesome!

Check the wikia. If it has 2 or more materials it can be made of, that trick will work.

I didn't know that either, tmp. Thanks for mentioning it! Yeah, I can see Alistair wanting to keep using his warden sword, totally. That would make switching to Maric's quite meaningful, wouldn't it?

*pokes her head in* Am I allowed one shameless self-plug here?

A few days ago, I banged out an Alistair fic. It's inspired by one of the scenes in the IRS Alistair mod if the warden is a Cousland. Hope you guys enjoy it.

That explained why Alistair's Saw Sword seemed to "upgrade" from Red Steel to Silverite in the course of a reload. Unfortunately, certain circumstances retconned that incident, much to Alistair's disappointment.

Yes the mace wielding Alistair as warden took me by surprise too. But hey it's been a few years and maybe he had to use one in an emergency and found he liked it. While the Warden version of DA2 isn't my fav, I agree he looks the best in that role but love him in the role of the king. just wish he didn't look like he was about to have a heart attack.

Same here. *points to signature*. But apparently to an anonymous review Lenya is the biggest Mary Sue ever. Lol.

I'm highly amused about this sort of "YOU SUCK LOLOLOL" review because it took me over a year to get finally randomly accused of that...or such a feedback at all. *snort*

Tis going to be a joy to retort.
