@theskymoves - I suspect angry shouty is much sexier than kicked puppy shouty. I won't be playing THAT route again. But if you want to do it for completion's sake...

Working on my Cousland rogue, built specifically for Alistair romance, but she keeps wanting to insult him for being whiney. I guess when most of your family just died, his coming completely unstrung over Duncan is a *little* less sympathetic. I'm sure they'll work it out.

Meanwhile, I'm sure she's noticed that he's gorgeous when upset...

@theskymoves - you're right about the lighting - lovely. I flailed for the printscreen key and have at least 5 shots from this scene... I tried to show restraint and only uploaded my favorite.
Many sympathies on your upload woes! That is very annoying. I haven't had any lasting trouble with Origins (yet, knock on wood - my DLC took a reboot to show up but it arrived eventually) but I've had trouble with other EA games not reading installation disks. Very frustrating! I hope your issues get worked out soon.

ETA - thanks @Bratt1204!

I'm feeling sorry for @tsm right about now. I have many Windows woes despite the fact that the ONLY thing I do on that machine is play DA. If hubby wasn't an electrical engineer I would have thrown the damned thing out the window and given up on gaming ages ago.

@ali - Thank the Maker for husbands, right? I think mine is trying to cheer me up today: he ordered me a Grey Warden sword letter opener so I can stabbity the mail, and while we were listening to an NPR  program about plural marriage, he offered that he thought my perfect "triple husbandoid" would be Stephen Fry, David Poe, and Alistair. I'm not sure what I love most about that, the Blackadder reference or that he included a pixel person.

And so this is on-topic:

Okay...so Duncanistair is starting to grow on me. I think I'm liking it the more I look at all of the screenshots you guys have taken...I don't know though. I'm hesitant just because the vanilla Alistair is the one that I developed my pixel crush on...it just seems strange to mess with that...like he'd be a completely different person. Silly, I know. Anyways, when I do give in and want it, where can I find this mod? lol

@java - 'tis rak's Alistair Morph. The morph in my screens has a different hair tint (I think it's one shade lighter than the Duncanstair brown), but otherwise is the same. I start him off with one of the vanilla hair morphs and switch him out mid-way through the game... best of both worlds!

Wow, you have been busy here. Nice to see the Alistair thread so vivid again (Thread veteran here). As for Eamon, he is a character I love to hate. His complete and utter disregard toward Alistair drives me nuts every single time. Which makes it all the sweeter to give him the finger in the end and ride with Alistair off into the sunset xD But even more than Eamon, I do hate Isolde, and this has little to do with her voice. Which is horrid, btw.

Oh and Lenya? She will hate Eamon with a passion, because he is regarding her as a bothersome savage elf who is hindering Alistair to fulfill his destiny to rule. Blah. And since one has to pry Alistair out of her cold, dead hands before she would give him up, this won't end well. At all. *snicker*

I love his expression here *swoon*

@tsm: Aw, how cute! Your hubby sounds like a keeper :-) I love Blackadder. We never finished watching it, though. Got stuck at the WW1 episodes.

@maria: Yes, mine also understands the "IT JUST BROKE PLEASE FIX IT I NEED TO PLAY **NAO**" thing, and drops everything to come help. He does grumble once in a while, but that's totally understandable. Thank goodness for engineers!

Also, my hubby didn't complain when I ordered the I Heart Alistair t-shirt. I was awfully embarrassed though.

@java: Yes, it can be hard to switch away from vanilla. I waffled for months and just two weeks ago decided to stick with Duncanstair for a while. Can't wait to start a fresh PT with him. It's pretty easy to switch back if you don't like it, though. I do prefer the hair color that tsm uses but you'd either have to get her file, or use the toolset to change Rak's, or ask Rak to make a lighter brown version. IIRC you also need Pineapple Tree's Vibrant Colors and Color Replacement mods.

@meril: lovely :-)

So, here's a really silly, fangirl-ish question. Have you ever dreamed about Alistair? I, myself, have never had the pleasure. In fact, no DA dreams whatsoever. Quite sad about that.

I have not.  I wish I had DA dreams, too!  Of course, some days it's hard for me to remember what I had dreamed about, so maybe I have and just can't remember?  That would be even sadder!

@alisgirl--About the dream thing... I usually don't remember my dreams with any level of clarity after I've been awake for a few minutes, so I probably have dreamed about him. It's the most annoying thing ever when I have a particularly epic dream, and it gives me ideas for a story... which will fail halfway through because I can't remember the details of the dream that inspired me :(

In other news, my new desktop came today and I can FINALLY play DAO in high quality. So freaking excited! Although it does mean I have to install my mods all over again, and I can't remember how I got some of them to work together (especially ones with multiple chargenmorphs that overwrite each other). It's really irritating, but I suppose I can deal with vanilla CC options for now.

What's REALLY annoying, however, is that I'm at my dad's house for the next week and won't be able to play, since my computer is at my mom's. *sigh*... No Alistair for me.

Edited to add: Although, there is one great thing about divorce. I get to celebrate my birthday TWICE. *happy eating her second birthday cake in as many days*

@java-- I haven't switched out any of my companions for custom morphs yet, except Leliana (since the color of her hair really, REALLY annoys me for some reason, and most of the custom morphs are much prettier). But I'll probably give in and try something other than vanilla Alistair eventually...

@fyreshadowes - happy belated birthday! And congratuations on the new computer!

***

In other news... I just got to the flirting. And I love flirting. But... "Has anyone ever told you you're handsome?" Really? THAT'S your opening salvo? Not, "I'm all alone because (my family died/my husband to be was murdered/my sister is whoring for a crimelord/my best friend turned out to be a lying blood mage), and I'm so glad to have you here with me," but "has anyone ever told you you're handsome?" Hmph. It gets better, right? Please tell me it gets better.

It doesn't change Alistair's hotness, but it makes me wonder what he sees in MY character, if that's the best she can come up with.

@gingergen - Thanks! And, to tell the truth, my headcanon fills in most of the flirting between Alistair and my Warden. In-game dialogue just doesn't really cut it for me, unfortunately. Alistair's lines are great, but the PC? Not so much.

But I think it does get better. I usually stay away from the "has anyone ever told you you're handsome" bit and try to start the romance a bit more naturally during dialogue. It's more realistic that way.

Yes, but his answer to "Has..." is self-deprecatingly charming...

Because I'm writing a long Alistair fic it's difficult for me to say whether I've dreamt about him or not because I usually go to bed thinking about him anyway. But I know that when I get a scene or some lines of dialogue or an image while sleeping/half-sleeping it's going to be good...

Last night... He was wearing a sleaveless black velvet doublet with the two marbaris embroidered in red on the upper left hand side over a blouson (?) with flared sleeves decorated with thin vertical lines in black and silver...

There I go!

Fyre: Happy belated birthday from me as well ^^

As for the romance starting lines. Ignore this lame one. There are better ways to start his romance and many at that. I would go into detail but I don't want to spoil :P  Let's just say you will have plenty chances to iniate his romance while talking to him ;)

Haha, you thought that was bad, you  should see the crap they came up with for Da2.

I acctually like the handsome line.

The DA2 "I'm hungry" line in the Anders romance is a classic xD Actually, I found the romances in DA2...cheesy. 95% of the lines said in a romance made me cringe. HARD.

The content and timing of the DA2 ones made me cringe too. I was looking around going, "Wait, I didn't notice I'd entered a cheesy bar..." They happened way too soon too.

It was a shame that the pain you suffered in your origin was never addressed in the romances. My Cousland should have been so shell-shocked that romance was the last thing on her mind. Alistair too, actually. I think another 1-2 scenes of mutual grieving would have added a lot.

The handsome thing was goofy but my PC was so glad to see him after getting out of the Fade and having had to stare at all those demons that she jumped right on it ;-)

Too early and too little caffeine for me to be doing this, but here goes:

@alisgirl - Mr. theskymoves is the best! He buys me stabby toys, rubs my feet, lets me stay up late to cavort with pixel men, doesn't complain about my music, and does most of the cooking. I am a lucky woman, don't I know it! <3

The hair tint I used for my Duncanstair revision is... (looks at mor file in GFFEditor) pt_har_br4.

@gingergen - I concur w/ fyreshadowes & merilsell; avoiding the obvious flirt lines and not rushing things can be very satisfying in terms of roleplay. (And the "handsome" line is a good one to keep in reserve for re-starting things, just in case something goes horribly awry. IMO, it's also a lot less predatory sounding in the context of trying to re-kindle the relationship later in the game.)

@fyreshadowes - Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you...

Dreams of Alistair... Yes. But with how little I sleep, I can't possibly be the only one with visions of Alistair dancing in her/his head... and by dancing, I mean... oh, never mind!  (And was that meant as a Yes/No question, or did you want specifics?)

not been in this thread before so ...

last night I met the still a Grey Warden Alistair (still can't get used to the that spelling of Alastair) in DA2, I heard his voice and my heart stopped and my stomach did somersaults, then I looked up and OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO won't look, I'll just listen, sigh..
So I went back to one of my saves in DA:O and kissed the real Alistair ...how the could I ever have even thought of snuggling Anders after him ;-)

Thanks for the advice and sympathy, all! I think I'll go back to a previous save and play through without it for now, since there are other options in the dialogue. Thank you!

@theskymoves - good tip about saving that for re-starting the romance if needed. I agree that it would sound more believable in that context.

Seriously! EVERY origin has some amount of serious loss to deal with, and the poor Couslands lose their whole family (give or take a brother). Bonding over loss would work for both romance AND friendship, IMO. Every time family/home have come up, Alistair will ask "what about you?" but then just replies, "Oh, yes, I knew that. Stupid of me to bring it up." It doesn't make sense, somehow.

ETA:
@TanyaT -- totally agree about the spelling. I have to think about it every time "A list air." :D

And now I'm off to find a can of compressed air or something, because my L key is sticking like nobody's business. I suspect cat hair is the culprit.

@tsm: Wow, he DOES sound wonderful. "Cavort with pixel men"—LOL. What are "stabby toys"? Do you collect swords or something? Also, the dreams question was a yes or no question with the hope of gory details, which I was too shy to ask for ;-) Can you record them for me, à la that last movie with Natalie Wood, so I can enjoy them vicariously?!

@tanya: Well, a woman has to move on, you know…

@maria: Yes, the lack of activity here seems to have chased off the naysayers and left nothing but squee…

@ginger: Yes, I can't fault them that much because the dialogue trees could have grown huge and the game is already so enormous. Still, it feels like a glaring oversight.

@fyre: Belated happy birthday! I hope you got something good. Though two cakes is hard to beat.

Regarding keyboards…on vacation I spilled ginger ale on mine and now the keys on the left-most third are sticking terribly…I already pulled them all and washed with alcohol (hubby's suggestion; I would have used soap and water) and they appeared to be better but went right back to sticking the next day. GAH

Now for a glorious, empty Saturday full of playing, reading, and writing :-)
