Man, I can just hear the acrimony from Alistair, 10, 15, 20 years down the line. He can push those thought away at first and just be happy. But eventually, he'll turn to the Warden coldly and say, "Of course you can dismiss this. It's not your child." *shiver*

^^ He's very broken up over the Wardens death, Fata. He seems to be dealing with the DR pretty well from everything we have seen from him after the DR. He mentions that he is concerned about the ramifications of the ritual at the coronation, but he is also glowing because both of you are still alive & together.

Based on what little we see of him in DAA & DA2, he doesn't seem to be worrying about it yet. But in DA2, he really does seem to still be heartbroken about the loss of his Warden love.

When I saw a clip of that ball and chain comment, I kinda cringed. Seemed more of a way to describe Anora than the Warden. But I'll write it off as a british humour thing.

So far I've done the hardened version of Alistair as King, with a Cousland as Queen, and a Dalish elf, unhardened, who runs off together to rebuild the Grey Wardens. I'm wondering if I should harden him for my Mage run (still deciding whether to go human or elf). I plan to go off adventuring with Alistair in that one.

I didn't notice that much of a difference between hardened/versus unhardened, so it's more hypothetical future thinking as to which way to go. I don't want him to regret not being King, which is why I'm thinking of keeping him unhardened. But do you think he's better able to deal with the DR hardened?

I know, Rak. (can't use quote function on this phone for some reason)...but I say that's still better than what I got.

Penarddun...the only big difference in his hardening I have noticed is making him king. In my king run Alistair was more than happy to let Anora rule with my warden...and he was hardened.

Hmm, interesting. I'll probably harden then on this next playthrough.

I wish I could remember the slider options for my human face. I've only ever been able to create one human face I liked. All other attempts ended in me deleting them when I got to the Korcari Wilds. I may just have to stick with elves until I get the PC version.

Aw, the Warden dies in DA2 (or before it?)? Spoilerish!

I don't know how many years DA2 is after DAO, but when someone dies you naturally end up remembering the good times and having an idealized version of them. The first 5, 10 years into that relationship I would expect it to not make a ripple on their happiness. If it does end up being an issue, It's the kind of thing that gets heavier with time, though.

Penarddun...I would also suggest for pc if/when you do a Morimance. You'll want the dialogue resoration patch for hers. It brought a tear to my eye in both the DR and WH

Can someone explain what 'hardened' means, please?

Edit: nevermind, looked it up on the wiki.  Now I feel even MORE that I want to do a full reply of the game instead of just replaying the landsmeet. But this game is so slow, you guys. ugh. I don't know if I can force myself to play it again.

I was talking about a warden that does the ultimate sacrifice.    When we meet Alistair in DA2, depending on which save you import, he is still very sad about this.  I don't know my DA2 timeline very well, but its a few years afterwards.

Good to know. I will add that to my list of "Necessary additions before starting the PC version."

Fata - Alistair and Leliana can be hardened during their personal quests, by picking certain dialogue choices in response to what they say to you. Personally, I found the hardening option for Alistair very obscure, and definitely not something I would choose at first glance. But as a savy, political-minded, semi-vengeful Cousland, it was what I chose, and I'm happy I did, because I like him hardened if he's going to be King.

Edit: Oh just saw you said you looked it up, nevermind.

I like how it is sort of slow-paced. If anything it is too fast for me. But I fill in A LOT with my own inner monologue/dialogue inbetween events. When I get to the landsmeet, I'm always thinking, "It's over already?" :crying: No, too soon! I want to wander around the Brecilian Forest for another month or two, maybe have another Wardens only skinny dipping trip in the waterfall.... oh wait, what was my point again?:wub::wub:

Fata...DA2 starts during Origins after Lothering, and then in Act 1 is right after Origins.

Too speed up the game are you referring to story or combat? Might have some ideas to help speed it up. :)

Combat. If I do a second run, it's going to be with warrior so I can have a noble. And the first time I ran with a noble battles took forever and I kept dying (at least until I got Wynne). Even with a mage battles take significantly longer than they do with, say, Mass Effect. It's like, if I don't have 15 - 30 minutes to set aside to clear out this warehouse, then I'd better just not sit down to play. There's no 10 minute quick missions I can do, it seems like. It's like taking down a tank with a peashooter.

Edit: I think one thing I'll do is push the difficulty level down from 'normal' to 'easy' and hopefully that will make battles less lengthy.

Fata...also on the builds there are tricks to make it quicker. If Dual Wielding...get momentum asap. If 2 handed get...damn now I forgot what it's called...but it's a big sweeper move. Then also with a mage ..Mori or Wynne...get haste...and if both have it there is double haste with them in your party. (Really fast). Or if you have the console activated on pc...killallhostiles. ;)

Well, I don't mean fast as in just moving faster... I mean how can I take enemies out sooner instead of hit*hit*hit*hit "die already!" hit*hit*hit, etc. I only found out towards the end of my mage run that cone of cold is a pretty good spell to have. Are there similar "take a mutha out" skills for warrior?

There Arrow of Slaying in archery...have a mage in your party using cone of cold or petrify and then anyone using a power move will shatter than target. With mt DW's I like use a dual sweep followed by whirlwind to take out several at one time...and ther are more. Mages can shatter cone or petrified targets with stone fist and crushing prison.

I second using the Arrow of Slaying. I used it as a rogue archer, but I imagine with a warrior it probably works even better.

Are there any specific areas that take super long? Maybe adding a ring or necklace that helps against that specific type of enemy would help speed things up. Or use a mage to weaken the enemy. I gave Morrigan a lot of entropy and spirit spells and she really devastated them with her weakening hexes and mortality spell. Then when the melee character came in to hit them, they fell almost immediately.

Morrigan is also effective using Nightmare. It puts all of the enemies to sleep. ;)

And @ Merilsell, I love your FF. Lenya is so much fun to read. I went from wanting to shake her in the beginning to being completely sucked in and on her side in the last 10 or so chapters. I read about 4 chapters at a time, so I'm waiting for you to publish another two and then will read those 4. The cliff hangers kill me sometimes so I need a few at a time to read.

Wow thanks.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. Lenya is an odd Dalish cookie, I know, but her development is deliberately planned being so slow to make it more realistic. At least I hope it is, lol. The next chap is with my beta, I'm only waiting it to be returned to me. I can understand you hate cliffhanger and choose to wait until moar chapter are released...but as a writer I love to write them.

I personally think that Alistair is better/happier hardened. ( I still can't write that without giggling) Because leaving him so how he is, is like supporting the mistakes that had been made in his past/youth. The world of DA is a cruel place, so it doesn't serve him when he doesn't learn how to stand up for himself, when needed. I just don't like how it is done ingame, which is why I use in my FF a very different and gradually approach to it. Life is learning, after all.

@Fata: Play on casual. I'm no combat freak myself, so I only play at that. The battle is very quickly over then. Also I recommend the Skip the fade mod, when you are on PC. Saves a lot of nerves. That being said, I still like this combat better than in DA2. It is way over the top in there.

To speed the game up during combat try taking a look for some overpowered weapons and armor. There one called Catona's that's pretty good. Just one shot your way through everything.

As for the "ball and chain" comment, I liked it. I thought it was perfect Alistair humor.

Ok, seems like putting the difficult level on easy did the trick. I'm no longer pounding my head on the wall about how long everything takes to kill.

In my playthrough (non-canonical M!Cousland/Alistair pairing) he hasn't found out about the Dark Ritual yet.  Or maybe he has--when does he turn up in DA2 exactly?  My fan-fic has Aedan coming clean about what's going on five years after the end of the Blight.

If you're a guy & do the DR yourself, he doesn't need to know. He suspects something, but he is kind of "don't ask / don't tell" about it.

If he is a warden, he will show up in DA2 instead of Stroud. I think it's during the Qunari battle that you run into him & he gives you a locket that use to belong to the Warden.
