Question about the fills/prompts, can it be just art or does there also need to be a written story? (sorry for lame question, never participated before)

Alistair running off with the cheese, that pic is too funny!

It can either or both. Some like to write, some draw, and that cheese pic was a toolset manip for an older prompt.

Don't you love this place? :-) I do wish more people would come back, but I suppose they've moved on.

Just now I Googled "RPG romances falling in love" and guess what came up as the first hit? My own fanfiction.net profile! Sure didn't expect that.

This is probably closer, and is DA-centric -> “I'm in love with someone that doesn't exist!!”: Bleed in the context of a Computer Game (PDF file)
and on this page is a cite for this:
Waern, A. (2011). Pixel crush doesn't begin to explain it!. Playground magazine. Issue no 1, Feberuary 2011.
Abstract: In Dragon Age, game characters can be made to fall in love. As it turns out, so do the players.
It's Kill 'em All, Let the Maker Sort 'em Out Tuesday, innit? Let's see....
Dual-wield Alistair dispenses with Fade Goldanna.

(bonus, cos my kill-shots all stink) Somebody's cranky!

@Alisgirl - It came up with your own site? lol! That's a good thing, though, right?
@TSM - My kill shots always suck, too. I keep wanting to get that instance when the head is being severed before the head seems to disappear...but it may just be that I'm not playing in high enough resolution to see that? Anyways, I'm always a tad too early or a tad too slow...which brings me to my screenshot for Dismemberment Tuesday!
It's a mix of a derp moment and the dismemberment...lately I've been getting this glitch that happens...not all the time, but it looks pretty weird when it does happen...okay, Ki'Ari...I like the invisible Ogre you are slaying...is this some kind of Voodoo magic?

Another one from The Fade. Not much gore, but he looks so determined here! (This one is cropped.)

I had posted earlier whether anyone had seen any in-depth articles on falling in love with video game characters. I keep thinking I've found something and it turns out to be some really shallow piece for a gamer blog. I know Cilfford Nass at Stanford did some work last decade about how people respond to computers as if they're human, but it didn't get into this area. I'm kind of boggled by the lack of writing about it. Keep switching up my search terms, but nothing.
That's a very interesting concept, one I've thought about myself. I think an anaylsis of why and how we fall in love would have to be included, and it would also have to pull in the idea of perceptions in real life, and how our internal thoughts can affect our world.
It's definitely a cross between psychology and philosophy. The big question, what is real? I'm reminded of this old Star Trek episode where someone lives out the rest of their life in a simulation, because they are paralized. The question of whether that is real enough or just a sad delusion came up. I haven't quite decided what I believe in regards to that. Definitely something to consider for a topic if I ever get my doctorate in psychology.
I would easily admit that I "fell in love" with the character of Alistair. Or maybe it's that I love to watch what I consider my "ideal man" personified in a visual and audible way that is very accessible (because of the interactive nature of video games), moreso than a novel or film.

@Penarddun — Yes, exactly; that's what I want to find out. I've seen hundreds of love scenes in TV and movies over the course of my life, and none of them was ever the punch to the gut (in a good way) that I experienced in Dragon Age. It wasn't like watching the hero romance the heroine; it felt direct and *real*. Even my husband mentioned this regarding Morrigan, though he wasn't even motivated enough to finish his playthrough. I haven't played other CRPGs, so I don't know how common it is, and if it isn't, I want to know the reason for that, too.
@tsm—Thanks for the links, which I'll have to check out tonight.
