Even I wouldn't do that! (And I'm the one who quite often breaks up with him in Fort Drakon, right before facing Archie...)

I thought Alistair had to be hardened to marry Anora. I guess not if you arrange it ahead. Another section for my flowchart. I AM documenting this and I WILL win! This kind of complexity is what I really missed in DA2, which felt totally on rails to me.

Oh yeah, TSM, I'm not being a sadist, I'm being a masochist. If I harden Alistair I can't avoid taking the easy way out with the persuade option. I did it to force myself to get dumped.

Yep, Ciara romanced Alistair, dumped him for Zevran, dumped Zevran for Loghain, arranged the marriage before the Landsmeet, spared Loghain, but still married Alistair to Anora, then fed Loghain to Archie and went back to Zevran...interesting playthrough that one was. hehe

I thought if you spared Loghain then Alistair would run off?

I am planning to spare him in my next PT

No, he'll still become king and marry Anora, should you point him in that direction. (That scenario was my worst PT, ever. Elf Mage romanced Alistair-hardened him-married to Anora-spared Loghain-Loghain Redeemer-Alistair hates Warden, forever.)

He won't stay with you as a companion, but he will not run off to become Drunkenstair either. It's not a good life for him either as Anora basically treats him like a kid.

I wonder why your Cousland lost the option to make herself Queen? That sounds a little buggy. Also last night I tried the Persuade option with the mage and was treated to Alistair dissing me in front of the entire Landsmeet. I had assumed that the option just wouldn't come up unless you were playing Cousland.

It's not buggy that she lost the Queen option, it's happened to me too. If you push the dialogue about sparing Loghain too far but back out of it at the last possible minute Alistair will just take the throne.

Some of the "mistress" dialoge is just as sucky as the breakup.

Wow, Rage, that is quite some getup Ciara's wearing. What is it?

Sorry for being so mod-clueless, everyone. I feel that I have enough to do without screwing around with mods, but sometimes things catch my eye. And I find out what they are. And forget to record it somewhere. And…

alisgirl---it's called Silverlight and was being tested, but never finished. I think the mod author quit playing DA? I tested it while playing Ciara's run. ;)

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Here's what I posted about the on-going Cousland disaster on Tumblr. (I lost an aggregate 2 Approval points on the Goldanna visit after writing this.):

Warden #1, F!Amell: Flirty, fun malificar. Openly
contemptuous of Chantry. Pragmatic. Not inherently evil and frequently
downright kind and helpful. Sided with mages, let Jowan go, trafficked
with Connor’s demon. Already recruited Zevran (Zev ASAP mod) &
insulted Alistair in the process. (That’s a -5 Approval hit, right?)

Warden #2, F!Cousland: Serious, focused Warrior/Templar. Consumed by duty (to revenge her family, and as a Grey Warden). Still considers regards herself nobility. Devout Andrastrian. Doesn’t trust mages, at all. Sided with Templars at Kinloch Hold, killed Jowan, let Isolde kill Connor. Hasn’t encountered Zevran yet, so no approval loss from Alistair (yet).

Both Alistairs were given one non-plot gift, and most of the incidental plot decisions have either been the same or were offset by a different approval altering decision (i.e. helped Bella vs. Kaitlyn). I’ve had all of the same Warden-initiated conversations in both games, and have tried not to deviate too radically from the conversation paths taken, within the boundaries of roleplay.

So Cousland should be the girl of his dreams, right? Ha!

Alistair approval of Amell after completing ‘Broken Circle’ and ‘Arl of Redcliffe’ (as far as dealing with Connor) is +77 Adore. And Cousland, at exactly the same point? -17, though if I compromise the roleplay and take a less true to the character approach during the post-Connor in-camp AliRant and “why did
you conceal your birthright?” conversations I can salvage a +28 Interested out of him.

Unscientific analysis: Amell was supposed to be my all-yelling-all-frowning-all-pouting Alistair hate run; Cousland, my perfect fairy tale ending game. Instead, it turns our our little Templar is all grown up and likes bad girls, and he’s only all about duty if it’s his duty. Roleplay is such an adventure!  *scratches head*

(edited to add that the Zevran encounter never did trigger for Cousland, so debugging that will be another -5 (?) or so...)

tsm---yeah, it can go way off sometimes. And I can say I have once done the -100 on Alistair just to get the speech. Never progressed after that, but that speech...hilarious!

This is not mine, but it's the same speech:

Based on what you wrote, it seems obvious that Alistair wouldn't like the Cousland. Alistair seems the type to like someone telling him he's funny and all that. He doesn't exactly like the chantry much either, after his experiences as a Templar.
Although I do love the irony of Alistair liking the unapologtetic blood mage more than the dutiful Grey Warden.

Yes, because you're threatening an old woman. It has nothing to do with her being a priest. He's not as serious about it as Leliana or Wynne, considering the how he laughed at those two priests in Denerim, and doesn't attack you over the Sacred Ashes.

Which is why I should just stop playing, because I'll never suss the NPC motivations in this game. Thanks for the clarity. :)

Alistair likes fun. Joke around, tell him he's funny, and he'll melt. Keep that, and the fact that he's "good" aligned, and he's in the bag.
I can figure out Alistair easily cause he's a better looking, more useful in a fight than I am.

Everything you say is true. Having played through the Alistair romance nearly a dozen times, though, the "laugh at his jokes and tell him he's handsome" way got boring real quick (for me). (Sweet, but boring.) Bottom line: I found Alistair (and DA in general) to be lot more interesting and challenging (IMO) when roleplaying, rather than meta gaming.

File under: I am clearly doing it wrong.

@tsm—I was always so careful not to say anything that might upset him. Little did I know that those "dangerous" lines always got the best responses.

@gs—I found it a little disconcerting that Alistair didn't object about the Ashes, given that he was a little awestruck at having found them. Though it was more for "finding a seemingly mythological relic"–type reasons that religious reasons.

Edit: Wow, I think someone just unfollowed me on Tumblr because I posted Errant's commission of Alistair executing Loghain. Some people are SOOOOOOO touchy!
