That feel when you want to play this game so bad but Ostagar is the biggest snore fest in the world.

Thanks.  The weird thing is that I've never actually spared Loghain in a game (yet) because the RP just hasn't allowed me to (since I play mostly elves - I love the CE origin for some weird reason).  I'm currently playing two dice characters, and hope that one of them will do it.  Of course, I'm also having a blast with my new Dalish blood mage, so who knows what he will do. Image IPB

Anyways, I love Loghain's character and always saw him as the very epitome of nobility lost - it's just not apparent to someone who almost had their father shipped to Tevinter as a slave, soooo...

@Jon - I hear ya.  I literally can complete Ostagar in 1 hour now, though, and less time if I have double-haste enabled.  *sweet, sweet toolset, my precious...* Image IPB  For some reason I could never get the skip Ostagar mod to work...   Oh, well.

(edited for i can haz spelling)

I finally spared Loghain a week ago (in my attempt to get the rest of the achievements) and I agree that he is a very complex and interesting character. And tragic. It's unfortunate there isn't a way for the Warden to see that before the Landsmeet decision. I don't think I've had one Warden yet, who would spare him. It goes against everything they have experienced thus far in their journey.

Now it's time to refuse Morrigan's Ritual. Watching Alistair sacrifice himself for me may be too much to bare. :crying:

Is there a lot of dialogue after the Landsmeet, with Alistair, where he talks about Anora being on the throne? Or anything relating to the fact that the PC and Alistair can stay together now since he's not king? I have the console version so he is in denial and thinks he's king, and all I get is King dialogue related choices. I think I'm getting the hardened dialogue somehow too, because he says he won't let me go even as King.

There's not a lot of dialogue, but there is a conversation after the Landsmeet if you don't make him King.  There's even slightly different lines depending on if he's hardened and unhardened.  I couldn't find a video in a quick search of Youtube, but I know there is a dialogue where he thanks you for not making him King.

He says something along the lines of "I'm not King and Loghain still got what he deserved.  Thank you." (Of course, he says it quite sweetly, being Alistair.Image IPB)

Oh, hey, Merilsell!  I just wanted to let you know that I just (yesterday, in fact) finished reading your FF Of Elves and Humans.  Loved it, thanks for the great read!   I really liked the character development and thought that went into Lenya's growth, and you were quite deft at integrating the in-game dialogue into your FF in a fresh but always appropriate manner.  I appreciated your work immensely!

I REALLY wish I'd discovered this game when it first came out. By the time I finish several PTs, absolutely nobody will be playing DA:O anymore. :-p

I feel the same way. Image IPB I bought DA:O UE on a Steam sale last Christmas but didn't start playing it until DA2 came out (to see if I wanted to buy DA2).  I loved DA:O so much, I still haven't gotten around to buying DA2 (which has since been pulled off of Steam anyway).

Still, reading through the entirety of this thread from the beginning has been truly entertaining.  I hope ya'll stick around a while longer. Image IPB

^this! I really enjoyed reading this thread too.

I am a bit of a Alistair purist (I love him just as he was the first time I saw him  ). But that hairstyle you have on him there is more subtley different than most of the others I've seen... I like it!

Yeah, I tried to find a hairstyle as close to the original as I could.  I just couldn't stand that both Alistair and Herren had the same hairstyle. Image IPB So I changeded it.

Wow, thank you  I must say that I'm surprised that there are still people braving this word monster from start to finish, I can understand how 380k words can be a tad intimidating, lol. So kudos to you for sticking around for the whole thing and I hope you are going to enjoy what is to come. There might be even a kiss scene in the near future. Well okay, I mean after 60 chapter it is about time for that, huh?

Right now I write the Flemeth arc and the aftermatch of it, so stay tuned ;)

I has no smut, as I play Lenya in the slooow pace of the FF and vowed to play other Wardens first when I finished her game, so yeah. But here is a little NBA in despite:

Don't get it wrong way, but i think he may be instead wondering where the sudden fish smell comes from.

Bad, bad tmp!  Everyone knows that fish is holy unto the Chantry.  (Or is it that the whole Chantry thing smells a bit fishy?  I can never remember...Image IPB)

Re; VFX.  Sometimes I leave the VFX on, sometimes I use your mod to turn it off.  Once I wasted all my deathroot potions because I had instant cooldown and your VFX mod installed, so I kept using my hotkey (interface was off) and next thing I knew I was out of concentrated deathroot.  (Granted it was the Flemeth battle, but still...)  Switched to demonic poison, but it was kind of a facepalm moment.  *sigh*

Although whatever that VFX is that makes a weapon turn white and hum...  That gets an instant tmp-mod slapfest. Grrr...  I love Ravage, except for that VFX...

edited to included a little Ogre Ballet:

Kinda funny, I only know my character is in this picture *because* of the VFX.  Heh.

Haha, glad to know. I for myself, can't read fast for my life and lack the patience to follow loooong stories online...because it makes me always think on how I need to write on my own story, lol. So all the word monsters are saved for my time after finishing OEaH, whenever that will be, lol. My goal is my 30th birthday in May next year, so wish me luck  As for Len/Ali smoothies, I'm waiting on that myself. Lol, I know about the scene and when and where about a year now and it kills me that it takes forever for the two to get there. So I feel my readers pain...and eat their tears to substain my evil author soul *muahahahar* :bandit:

As for the VFX, coming from the XBox I was so damn glad to get rid of the horrid visual effects. No blue hue around my Lenya anymore or flaming swords which screw up the lightening. Yay. Origins on the PC is a whole other and better world than on the console, I can tell.

Here a pic of Lenya/Alistair before the "OH **** FLEMETH IS A DRAGON???" revelation:

QFT (literally, heh).  I have it on PS3 (because I'm a Trophy Junkie) as well as the PC, and 90% of the time is spent on the PC.  I play all the characters I don't like on the PS3 because it 'doesn't count' in my head. :?  Plus that way I never hear Anora's speech exhorting the troops to victory.

And you will pull DahliaLynn's mods from my cold, dead fingers before I give up my Origins on PC!  And cmessaz... and Theseus... and tmp... :o

And now for something completely different:

I came into DA:O quite late in the (heh) game (got if when DA2 was released), so by now there's a lot of FF out there.  A LOT of FF.  I have found some I loved (waves at Merilsell) and some... well, that I didn't.  So I was hoping to get some recommendation from some fellow Alistairians about FF with some of the following elements:

1) Excellent characterisation.  I don't mind AU, but I like the characters to be the characters I know and love
2) Lengthy.  As I mentioned previously, I have no fear of word monsters (still love that term, Meri!), and I love extended character development and storytelling as long as it is well done (see #1)
3) Ummmm.... Good?

Hmmm... shorter list than I thought it would be. :P  Anyway, I'd love to see/hear some suggetions.  It doesn't *have* to be Alistair, but I wouldn't mind.

\\also wouldn't mind a bit of smut here and there, just not ONLY that...
\\\\well, not ENTIRELY:devil:
\\\\\\what?:innocent:

Hmm...any fave pairings or genre? Like Alistair/ Tabris or something like that?

However, a couple of FF's instantly spring to my mind:

Setrus' From dirt. Excellent retelling of Origins which is different and not with a happy sunshine Warden. Tabris/ Alistair pairing and long (over 200k) I love that one and are honored that he is still following my story. He also has written a sequel, but I haven't read it yet.

Dasque's Here without you. After blight story with a very good characterization, plot and development. Also full of dramaz, but in healthy portions. One of the few Cousland/Alistair stories I absolutely love. Her other stories are totally worth reading, too.

Mackillian's 30 Dragon and the sequel In peace we lie. AU with Alistair being raised by the Couslands, instead Eamon. A very very clever take on the Origins timeline. Also has the most awesome Dalish with Liadan...after Lenya, of course :P. The sequel is the direct continuation of 30 dragon and stretches over the whole DA2 story line without including the derp Hawke. Crapload of lore exploration, as well character development and elaborated plot. Mack knows how to spin a tale and I don't only say that because she beta's OEaH for me :P Also very long (combined almost 900k) so it will keep you entertained for a while, if you can live with a male Cousland as main char.

Tainted Blood, from my Dalish bro Lakhiz. Also a retelling of Origins but he includes all origins, though not as Wardens. Hence AU, but the focus is on Mahariel/Alistair here. Unfortunately I haven't read past chapter 10 yet, but that is only due to lacking time and its lengths (240k, not finished).I can only recommend to give it a shot.

Bamftastik's The last Warden. Again AU, this time: What would have happened when The Warden died in Ostagar. In this case no crappy DLC, but a very good story with a strong characterization of all the characters within. Especially Alistair is so very...Alistair. Too bad Bioware made not more out of this What if- scenario like Bamftastik did.

If you dig Mahariel/Alistair like I do then you HAVE TO READ Aeryn Phoenix "Understanding." This drabble series is one of my all time faves when it comes to a sensible and realistic handling of that pairing. Her Dalish is nameless, but awesome.

Also great, imo (but not necessarily word monster, except for the last two):

Shadow of Light-The Hunt, Diamond Dust

Aimorai -Dangerous

Addai - Idun Mahariel series

Asfea - "Keeping watch" <3 Best Alistair One Shot ever, IMHO.

Clariana -"Dark Ritual"

Cadsuane -"Mistakes"

There are surely a lot more I cannot remember or missing out myself, but those should keep ypu busy for a while ;)

:o:O:O:O:O:OI haz such a happy!  Thank you thank you! :o:O:O:O:O:O  Yay, weekend reading material.

As for pairings, I don't have a specific preference.  My canon CE, for example, went for Leliana first (who told her to go to Alistair), used Zevran for sexy time when she was mad at Alistair, then finally ended up with Alistair right before he became King.  (That was a fun RP.  Aah, good times).  But there's a certain F!Mahariel/Alistair story I loooooove to death ;) so I can't say I'm exclusive to Tabris, either.

Thank you again!  (and any moar suggestions are always welcome!

You are welcome. I'm very partial to Alistair/elf pairings, so you will find that reflecting in my faves, of course. There are awesome Zevran stories, too, but I mostly read the ones with Alistair getting the girl :P Though I'm all in for a great Cousland/Zev story.

Thanks for the praise, once more. You really want to get me blushing, huh? :P Btw, the next update will be Monday, I think. I'm not so fixed on a certain publishing day, but I have to answer a ton of reviews first. So I will seize the weekend for it and update afterward. I try to keep the weekly update schedule upright, though, and so far it works well. :)
