woo, after awhile of just reading through this thread, I finally got the guts to make an account and post on here! :) :)

I have been playing DA:O for almost a year and I love it (especially Alistair...hehe).

I actually had a question. I'm trying to use the CharGen Complier so I can merge some hair and face files together, and I'm getting this message that says access to the override folder is denied. >.< can anyone help me?

Thanks! The hair is from the Witcher mod for DAO and the dress is the confessor robe or something like that?

@Danni - Welcome! Glad you joined us here! Did you take a look at some of the theme days (ritual tuesdays, smut thursdays, etc.)? Also feel free to participate in our weekly Alistair fanfic/fanart challenge!

Speaking of, I'm going to try to do that this week now that I'm not going crazy studying for the CSET.

I'm not the best at using that particular mod myself :pinched: I actually just figured out how to manually edit the chargen file myself. If you right-click the chargen xml and hit edit it should come up on notepad and the structure is fairly easy to figure out once you look over how it's organized (well, this coming from the wife of a computer engineer so take that for what it is:P). But yeah, I can't help you with the mod itself :(

Hiya Danni. You can manually edit the xml files using notepad. Do backup your original...you know...just in case. ;) I have to do mine that way, but I also use the toolset to make my faces for Origins so I don't even mess with the chargen except to start the character. As long as the files are in the override folder you can access them in the toolset. ;)

And to add an Alistair to the page...(I'm being nice today ;P)

We like it when you do but it's not mandatory! (though we might give you a hard time! ;) we like to do that here though! :lol:)

If you right click the chargenmorphcfg.xml file and then click edit the file will come up on notepad (might be called something else on a different system). When that comes up take a look at how the chargen files are organized.

First part is the presets (under the /heads section) organized by race and gender (DM = dwarf male, EF = elf female, HF = human female, etc.) and then under that the sections will be labeled /hairs, then /beards, then /haircolors etc.. Once you figure out the lay of the land (so to speak) it gets easy to edit them and add things.

This is what I do: If I want to add some presets to my chargen (as an example) I go to the race and gender I want to add presets to - lets say human male - so I go find the human male section of the <heads>:

    <human_male> [race and gender]
      <resource name="HM_CPS_P01.mop" /> [file resource]

Then I'll copy a line (include the spacing - that's important. All the lines have to line up exactly as they are shown in the chargen so make sure to keep them all together), paste it under the last line, and then just delete what's in the quotes and add in the file name of the new preset I want to add there.

You can do this for everything else (hair colors, hair styles, eye colors, etc.). It takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it becomes easy. Oh and any additional presets, haircolors, etc. have to be in the override folder (usually mydocuments>bioware>DragonAge>Packages>core>override) to be used by the chargen (as does the chargen.xml as well).

I don't know, honestly. I don't really use the toolset for much more than sticking tattoos on PC's after I make them in the char creator in the game. The instructions I gave you are for manually putting the file names into the chargen.xml when you know them. Let's say you want to use the presets from Ferelden Models you would download the zip file, extract the files into your override folder, then you can either insert the names of the .mop files you want (those are preset files) into the chargen.xml like I showed you up there (you just have to look the names of the files up in the extracted folder in your override folder) or if you have another chargen.xml file that you are trying to merge, I would just cut and past the files you want into one chargen file and delete the other. As long as you keep the structure of the files the way they are in the chargen (keep the spacing the same) then it should work.

@ Danni : if you want to use the toolset, all you have to do is put the mod folder in your override directory. Editing the. XML makes mods show up in the in-game character creator.

To stay on topic, how many of you have done the US? I did it on my 3rd playthrough of the game on the Xbox. Alistair's lines at your funeral if you make him queen, and in a romance with him are just heartbreaking,

Nope I haven't done the US but I'm planning on doing a playthrough on that at some point. I don't think I'll ever do one with Alistair sacrificing himself. That's just too sad :crying:

After I got the achievement I loaded up an old save and gave them a happy ending! I think at some point I'm gonna have to do the US with Alistair...

The IRS - Alistair mod apparently adds Alistair cradling the Warden's body if they did the US, knocked him out and was in a romance with him. D': & I like what your PC is wearing!

Yes, I've done the US with Alistair. I was trying to do it with my character, but I always take Alistair with. After 2 tries, I finally left Alistair at the gate. And yes, I have IRS Alistair... that final scene that's added... Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I have done the US three times now...and ignoring that DA2 changed a bunch of things Leliana's end slide was worse than Ali's from a romanced perspective. *grumbles at DA2 tomfoolery*

Yes, the DA2 import system is quite buggy. It can't even get a complete "Study of the Fifth Blight, Part 2". *grumbles with Rage*

I only played DA2 cause I heard from a friend that there were appearances from NPC's from Origins. I found it amusing how if Leliana died in Origins, she appeared in DA2 during a sidequest I think. & how different the characters looked...or was it just me? >.<

Oh & at the Denerim City Gates, if you don't take him to the final battle dialouge goes something like this.

A: Just be safe in there...
PC: We both know how this is gonna end.
A: You're right. I will never forget you. & I'll make sure they won't.

Not Gonna Lie, when i romanced Him and he said, i felt bad.

He has lost everything, and the only thing that was giving light in all of this chaos, was about to Die without him being able to do anything about it.

Powerful stuff.

Damn, that's why i love this ****ing Game and it's characters!:wub:

Even when I was playing through it, Alistair, Zevran and Leliana looked so different, it was like a new person. The models of the characters in DA2 disappointed me, cause it seemed so...I don't know. In my opinion, the Origins models were fine and there was no need to change them.

@csft I've never done the US with Alistair, but I watched a video of him doing it, and its so powerful. Why I love this game so much. The characters are downright bad ass, but they have this side to them that's raw and emotional. :) There's still stuff I doubt I haven't discovered yet.
