Okay I have a question, since I currently write this part. Is there anywhere said in which Chantry Alistair was 'given' at age 10? Was it the one in Redcliffe or Denerim? Is there a canon...or at least a fanon for this? Because I'm seriously confused now if it is needed to take him completely away from Redcliffe or not.

Do you believe this is what Eamon has done?

I believe it's Alistair that says he was sent to the Chantry at age 10. I think it may have been as early as when you meet him at Ostagar. And, yes, I believe that that's what Eamon did, at the behest of Isolde.

I read in the wiki dialogue that while in Ostagar, the first time, Alistair can ask you: "You first. Did you want to become a Grey Warden?"

And then there is supposedly an option for you to respond with: "Yes, though perhaps not in the way that I did."

I've had Alistair ask me that, but I 've never had my Warden get the option to respond with that particular line. Is there a dialogue path for it or is it a Coercion/Cunning checkpoint or something?

I just checked in the toolset to see if the line has any flags or some convoluted path or conditions to achieve and it just isn't there; the line "Yes, though perhaps not in the way that I did." does not appear in the vanilla dialogue. 

I'm almost certain I have seen that dialogue at some point, though. Could it possibly be added by a mod? (I'm thinking IRS-Alistair, maybe? Per the read me: "In Ostagar, several dialogues have been restored or added.")

Edited to add that the line "Yes, though perhaps not in the way that I did." does appear in the IRS-Alistair alistair_main.dlg. Seems likely that's the culprit. *shrug*

Hmm... interesting. I don't recall ever getting that dialogue and I do have IRS-Alistair and my warden-to-be is very curious about finding out more about this man. lol

@tsm - Thanks for the reasearch! I really like that option, as it is exactly what most of my Warden's wanted to say at that point, and I was always annoyed it wasn't a choice. One day I will get the PC version and all these wonderful mods and do another dozen playthroughs. 


@Bev - It's somewhat difficult to get Alistair to say "You first. Did you want to become a Grey Warden?" to begin with. I remember I can't ask him anything about himself (or have him tell me anything) during the initial meeting dialogue, or it won't show up.

I'm requoting this because I totally didn't read through your post to understand what you were asking. I don't recall anywhere that stated to which Chantry Alistair was sent. I always figured it would be the one in Denerim. I doubt seriously that it would be the one in Redcliffe... still too close for comfort for Isolde I'd imagine. It might have been the one in Highever, but I also doubt that... too close to court, although that would also rule out the Denerim Chantry. If it was the Denerim Chantry, then Eamon would still feel inclined to visit/check up on Alistair since he maintains a residence in Denerim.

It depends how strict you think the Chantry is and how much you want to torment poor Alistair.

If the rules are not so strict and he'd be able to sneak into the castle, for example, or meet Eamon or Teagan somehow, then send him off to Denerim. Let him despair over the distance and the fear that he might never see them again.

If they are not allowed to get out from the campus and the training area, you can let him stay in Redcliffe. They would be near, but unable to see each other... Especially after Eamon stopped coming and Alistair started to blame himself for it... maybe he even tried to run away to visit Eamon and to explain himself, but was caught... He would feel hurt, trapped, angry, frustrated... 

Mmm... so much pain... so much potential... Oops. Did I say that aloud? I'm a gentle and kind person, who would never hurt an innocent character. Especially not a child! Never!

I could see this as a possiblity, actually. Eamon would still feel responsible for Alistair and would want to keep him close, if not in the castle. My reasoning for Alistair being sent to the Denerim chantry is the statement that the Grand Cleric proved a roadblock to Alistair becoming a Grey Warden, although I suppose she could have done that no matter which chantry Alistair was in.

It's been awhile since I posted here, hehe. My laptop stopped working the other day so no mods or anything, just when I spent so much time trying to get the game to work -.-. On the bright side, I finally played Mass Effect 2 the other day and beat it! I can't wait for the third.

In other news, i still don't have good pictures on Alistair, I'm on my iPod.
