Is it required to go to Redcliffe to get Alistair to start progressing? I thought I read somewhere that if you don't go to Redcliffe that Alistair remains Neutral or something. And does it mess up the Leliana Nug quest if I go to Orzammar before she is more fond of me (this doesn't realy matter much, since that Nug's squeaking at camp drove me nuts). Also I remember there was a specific herbalist quest in Orzammar. Will that be unobtainable if I go there first?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get this to work with my Mage's decisions, and already noticed some odd things (or maybe just thought I did). Especially with Alistair and Leliana. They don't seem to be developing at the same rate as they do when I went to the Circle Tower/Redcliffe first.

So I'll just set up camp here. Alistair is a pretty cool guy.
Carry on.

I'm doing a new playthrough with a mage and I want to go to Orzammar first. Well actually I'm going to do Soldier's Peak and Shale first, but Orzammar will be the first main quest line. I have it figured out in my head role playing wise for my character why she is going to Orzammar first. But I was wondering if this affects the party members' development negatively....

On Alistair, it's not necessary to go to Redcliffe first. I've recently started going to Kinloch Hold first so I can get Wynne right away. Or do you mean skip Redcliffe altogether? On that I have no experience since I've always done Redcliffe. The herb quest should still be there. As for anything regarding Leliana, I don't know, since I've never completed the nug quest, and I don't usually have her in my party when I go to Orzammar.

Thank you! I do plan on going to Redcliffe eventually, just not first. I'll probably get to Redcliffe before the Dalish and most of Denerim, but I planned on doing almost everything else before. Although I know Alistair has critical dialogue at Redcliffe so I thought it might stunt his storyline or something.

You won't get the reveal on Alistair's parentage, or his personal quest until you go to Redcliffe. You will still be able to advance the romance with him to a certain point (if that is a concern) but IIRC, he won't advance from Adore to Love until he meets Goldanna, no matter how high his approval is. If you aren't a stickler for roleplay, you can go to Redcliffe, talk to Alistair and get both his Daddy and Goldanna stories, and then leave without talking to Tomas and triggering the Redcliffe events. Getting the Goldanna quest does have a approval threshold, but I can't recall what it is off-hand.
As I recall, getting Leiiana to offer the nug quest is some strange combination of critera involving approval and exhausting her available conversation options. Most of the time I can't get it to trigger, even late in the game with approval over 80 and nothing left to talk to her about.
Opening the herbalist quest should just be a matter of speaking to the quest giver, but you will need a party member with master (4th tier) herbalism to complete the quest.

Yeah, I think most people are doing it for "science". I only killed him off by accident my first playthrough lol. Afterwards it was always my warden who died or Loghain.BevH wrote...

But in the same time I love this mod to pieces, because finally finally there is a tribute to Alistair's sacrifice, others than "Oh yeah, that guy? Dead? Well, pity but you are alive, Warden, so who cares" in the vanilla version. I always hated that ending so much because of this. And because Alistair is dead and all that, of course. Will get it as soon there is an elf version, since I have an army of elves but only one HNF and she is romancing Zevran. Ah well

Oh fine... for science... And yes, mine was by accident as well. I didn't have IRS at the time and no matter how many times I tried, or what I had my character say, Alistair made the final blow.cmessaz wrote...

I don't know where your mod is. When I click on the link you provide it takes me to the page that says I have to be a registered member. I look at the top of the page, and yes, I'm logged in. *scratches head*

In fact it's beautifully illustrated, well written and Alistair is superbly portrayed as an able king a good fighter and an interesting (if tormented) hero. In fact, it is narrated from his POV...
I am impressed, I am rapt... I hope to have the spare time to write a worthy review in the next few days.
Extract:
Alistair: Fine, fine. Let's get this over with...
Isabela: [to Varric] You think that was his commanding voice?
Varric: I'm sure it works if you're from Ferelden...
Alistair: ... Before the crows find us raiding their archive, please?

Personally I love it - he's more mature, definitely older, more confident but still snarky, funny Alistair. (just... drool...
I've got high hopes for the rest of the comic based on this first one.
I haven't played DA2 yet (I'll get around to it someday when DA3 looks closer to coming out) so I'm new to Varric and Isabela, but I liked them. I thought they were funny.
I wasn't originally going to get the hardcover in July but I think I just might now because I'm lovin the comic so far.
Anyway, enough of my gushing
