If anyone has ideas (and if interested of course) on in-game implementation I'm totally open to hearing them. As a mod I don't want it to disturb the game's natural flow.

You know, the quote I tried to site got me to thinking. Perhaps a natural flow would be to have this occur after the Urn of the Sacred Ashes quest when Alistair does say that.

Edited because quoting doesn't seem to be working for me ATM... *sigh*

That would make sense. I also liked the idea of having it after Return to Ostagar. Another interesting place to put it might be after the Warden gives him Duncan's Shield, before they both go into the final battle. In the sense that he is likely wondering if he is going to share Duncan's fate of dying on the battle field. But I think after Return to Ostagar would be most fitting, because that's probably when Duncan's death would be very strongly in his thoughts and also where he would have gotten a better perspective of what it would have been like to be out on the field with Duncan.

From what I recall playing so long ago, I remember how Alistair felt about Duncan and Loghain right after Flemmeth's rescue. It went all the way to his hardening phase, and ended with his actions towards Loghain in the Landsmeet. Probably any time between that in camp. Only, for the player to appreciate this scene, perhaps an advanced friendship with him would warrant viewing it. It would probably have more impact on the player who has gotten close to Alistair, romantically, or friendhipwise.
Question is,

Should this be an automatic trigger upon entering camp?
Should the player have control by, say, clicking on the tent with a message "Go to sleep"?

If it's the former, it might be jarring, especially if you went to camp to recouperate, or get new equipment.
If it's the latter, it may seem lacking in logic if the only thing you see is Alistair's dream. It's not like skyrim where you can actually "Go to sleep" .through time.

I'm finding it tough to figure out how to make it in game

@ DahliaLynn - The video is very moving, and would be a wonderful addition to the game.

I agree with your inclination that there should be some sort of relationship or approval threshold for the content, and with BevH's suggestion that Alistair's words when questioned by the Guardian would be a good catalyst, storywise.

@theskymoves indeed. I agree as well. When the spirit confronts him, it is a heavy moment. Definitely appropriate after

I agree, the automatic trigger would be jarring... I've always thought the tent talk felt a bit like being jumped. Posted Image

As the scene suggests an advanced point in the romance, I would think, yes, there needs to be a relationship check to have it trigger. Perhaps a short conversation with Alistair prior possibly asking if he wants to talk, or having him ask the warden if she wants to talk, with a concluding "Let's just go to bed." would make it a bit less jarring.

I dunno... just throwing out some random thoughts.

An excellent suggestion. Just to let you know, if I'm to mod it, I would likely adjust the scene based on the player's status. For example, if the player is a close friend, Alistair would wake up alone, and turn around in his bedroll saddened, then fade to black. I'm guessing this would be the instant where the *player* sees the dream, as opposed to the Warden being near him when it happens.

The other problem I face is that I don't believe I can touch Alistair's dialogue, (regarding your conversation ) since other mods already do that it would cause a conflict. But I'm looking into that in case it is possible to implement it without conflict.

Darn this is tough :S Thanks for the input though! If anything more comes to mind please do let me know :D

Argghh!! I forgot about the dlg and voicing not to mention conflicts with other mods that alter Alistair's dlg. *sigh* This is so much different than back in the days of the old IE engine and non-voiced characters. Posted Image

I found out that It *may* be possible for me to add dialogue without conflicting with other mods! The current conditions are as follows:

1. The scene should trigger once only
2. Will trigger at camp
3. Sacred Urn Quest has been completed
4. Alistair must be at above 90 Approval with the Warden, friend or romance
4a If Romance will trigger with the "Lets go to sleep" line
4b If friendship will trigger with an additional line, something along the lines of "I'm going to get some rest, try to do the same" (or something of the sort)
5. Must happen before the Landsmeet

In addition, I recall some issue with killing Conner that could seriously change his approval status. If I'm right, it should happen after Conner? Or there is no approval change regardless of what you do?

How does this look so far?

IRRC, the Approval loss can be as much as -40+, depending on dialogue choices during Alistair's Connor/ Isolde-death confrontation.
(casually inserts gratuitous screencap of Shouty!Alistair )

Always loved goatee Alistair :P I actually tried to see what he was like at minus approval. That was painful. Of course, it was between reloads :D

If that's the case, then it definitely has to be after Conner. It will likely look stupid if after the fight. the scene triggers.

Thanks for the input!

I would think the scene wouldn't trigger until after Connor anyway. I don't believe you can do Sacred Ashes until after you deal with Connor. I've never done this, not even for science, so I've never seen angry Alistair. But it does bring to mind an argument you can have with Anomen in BG2. There's a short period of time where you can't talk to him, so I'd think that the same would apply to Alistair. But I always have a number of gifts available to pacify him and bring his approval up whenever there is a disagreement.

I like what you've come up with so far, Dahlia. The time frame for the scene to trigger seems right to me. Can you even do the Landsmeet without Eamon?

I've never tried it, but I don't think there is anything to stop you from pursuing the Sacred Ashes prior to Redcliffe/Connor. Ser Donall (the Redcliffe knight encountered in Lothering) points you toward Denerim and Brother Genitivi, and I don't think the Sacred Ashes quest is blocked if Redcliffe is still open.

Good points. It's really been a long time since I played. I think you can trigger Sacred Ashes even without meeting Eamon. That's a problem. I think, maybe best thing to do is find out a way if an approval check can be done in realtime conversation, so that if major approval is lost in the middle of dialogue, (as with Conner's case) the cutscene conversation option will not come up.

I seriously doubt you can do the Landsmeet without Eamon. He's the one who calls for it if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a save whereby I don't at least go to Redcliffe. But I did just do a quick run where we arrived there, Alistair confessed his heritage, and then we left again. I did manage to get the Sacred Ashes quest, though, just going on to Denerim. So I guess that any point after Lothering you can pick up the SA quest.

Hey, hey, hey, whoa, wait a minute, is someone posting Alistair and the Maker again?

How about this?

Shirtless Alistair cleans up!

Much better - fulfilling two fantasies at once! XD

EDIT:

Oh, and if you like dancing Dragon Age men, you really need to watch this...

Everybody dance now!
