Happy to see this thread is still thriving (well for the most part) :) Dropped in to share a scene I just uploaded. It was a request from a modder for a larger mod no longer in production, so I decided to polish it up and upload it. Basically it was meant to depict a dream Alistair would have after Duncan's death and before the Landsmeet. I hoped to create something that further explains what drives his feelings and actions throughout the game.

Alistair's Dream/Nightmare

I hope you enjoy :) (Though it's dark in nature)

Oooooh I really liked it!:wub:

DahliaLynn wrote...

I found out that It *may* be possible for me to add dialogue without conflicting with other mods! The current
conditions are as follows:

1. The scene should trigger once only
2. Will trigger at camp
3. Sacred Urn Quest has been completed
4. Alistair must be at above 90 Approval with the Warden, friend or romance
4a If Romance will trigger with the "Lets go to sleep" line
4b If friendship will trigger with an additional line, something along the lines of "I'm going to get some rest, try to do the same" (or something of the sort)
5. Must happen before the Landsmeet

In addition, I recall some issue with killing Conner that could seriously change his approval status. If I'm right, it should happen after Conner? Or there is no approval change regardless of what you do?

How does this look so far?

I like all of that except the friendship one. I guess it depends on if the dream won't have the warden being with him in bed (in the cutscene) but if they are just friends it might be odd to have your warden sleeping with him in the cutscene itself suddenly, especially if you were specifically not wanting that to happen (for Zev romances, etc.).

I think doing it after Connor might be a good idea. It definitely plays into the other fears that were mentioned earlier with the Guardian.

For me personally, I would want this to trigger after I've slept with Alistair and not before, since the CS seems to lend itself to that type of relationship more (what with the warden sleeping with him and all in the CS). Would it be feasible to add in that condition as well?

EDIT: ToP!

Alistair and Brenna trying not to notice each other. Leliana noticing them trying not to notice each other.

Thanks for the input!

I guess I failed to mention, the Dream bookends for friendship will actually be Alistair sleeping alone, and waking up alone shaken, then turn to the side in distress/fall asleep and similar fade out to camp. This would be the case where the player sees the scene as opposed to the Warden experiencing the moment next to Alistair, if that makes any sense.

Also, it will definitely be set up to trigger after he has already slept with the Warden. I fully agree with you that it really wouldn't make sense :D

Hey, hey, hey, whoa, wait a minute, is someone posting Alistair and the Maker again?

How about this?

Shirtless Alistair cleans up!

Much better - fulfilling two fantasies at once! XD

EDIT:

Oh, and if you like dancing Dragon Age men, you really need to watch this...

Everybody dance now!

I sort of liked Shirtless Alistair cleans up!

but I didn't really get the joke in Everybody dance now!

Wow....I wow. There are no words to describe how beautiful that scene is. Maybe beautiful is the wrong word, being so dark and sad, yet it is so very fitting for Alistair. It describes his emotional pain just perfectly and that without dialogue. Powerful images. Wow.

Though for all the darkness this scene contains, what I liked most was the moment where Alistair touches the cheek of his Warden. Such a perfect way to convoy "I'm not alone" after his nightmare.

I'm in awe of your skills once more.

I should look more often into this thread than I use to do in the past weeks. Sorry for my absense. You can blame a demanding Dalish, Fable 3 and RL-stuff for that, though. ;)

Are you interested in Character Alignments? Like SteveGarbage thinks Zevran is Neutral Evil, but I don't quite see it that way. What do you think Zevran is? Anything else of interest?

I am doing a mage playthrough and I got to the part where Alistair tells the Warden of his father, right at the entrance to Redcliffe. In the past I had always gotten the response "The reason I said I was lucky" when choosing the last line of "What does that make me then?"

But this time I got something about the reason we have a chance. And I reloaded another playthrough and went to Redcliffe and got a line about joining the club. How many responses are there to this one line?

I couldn't figure it out based on approval rating. I think it has to do with a combination of approval number and whether in a romance or not, and I think there may be a third requirement.

Does anyone know what the requirements are to get the "The reason I said I was lucky" line?

When you get to Ostagar do you go straight for Alistair or do you run around a bit. I run around a bit.

I just did the KorcariWilds it went really quickly on normal setting. I did the chasined trail signs for the first time. It was totally not worth doing for what you get in my opinion. I did the Prisoner quest in Ostagar for the first time somehow I managed not do that before.

Okay where do you find the Elf Girl with the Armor? I've never found her. Do you have to accept the quest first before she shows up? My game guide seems to be incomplete. I await your responses impatiently before continuing to the Tower of Ishal.

According to the toolset, the requirements for that line to trigger are PC must be female, Romance not cut off, and Approval of Warm. (Warm is +26 to 75, IIRC.) And it looks like there is also a flag for Romance Not Active, if I'm looking at this right. (??!??!??) (Toolset, why are you so confusing?) :?

Sometimes my Wardens go looking for Alistair straight away, sometimes they wait. It all depends on the PC's personality and how obedient/independent they are.

The red-haired elf with the armour probably doesn't exist. IMO, that bit of dialogue from the Quartermaster is likely intended to either reinforce or establish the racist attitude toward elves, since the quartermaster assumes that any elf warden approaching him is the servant with his armour - male, female, any hair colour. (My Wardens are quite often female elves, and they take particular pleasure in setting him straight.)

TSM is correct in her response for this. It's not a red herring exacly, but the quest doesn't exist. You can even ask the quartermaster if you can help him find her, but he says he doesn't need the help. When I play an elf, I, too, enjoy setting the QM straight on things elvhan. Posted Image

Thank you for looking that up. So the key is having to be in "Warm." That correlates for me. My one character must have been in Neutral, and my other character was in Care, so neither got that response. What a specific response that is. Wow.

Actually, I'm not sure why it says warm. The stages of romanceactive are: interested (26-50), care (51-75), adore (76-90 I believe) and love.

Yep, except I think flipping Alistair from Adore to Love is linked to his personal quest; I've had him at +100 Adore more than once by ignoring his request to visit Goldanna.

The toolset info on what triggers that line is confusing to me, but maybe you can't have an active romance? (IIRC, Romance Not Cut Off doesn't mean an active romance, it just means you haven't ended or rejected the romance.) I really wish I could remember if under what circumstances I've gotten the dialogue. *wonders if I have an old save to use for science*

I always thought the Goldanna quest was just to harden him and not to advance the romance. But you may be right. *sigh* I wish they'd have put all the romance dialogue into one file... so much easier.

Nah, tsm is right here. I've sat at 100% Adore and once I did his quest it went straight to Love. Yeah the dialogue tags in the toolset are kind of confusing :pinched:

And there is nothing more amusing than having Alistair at +100 Adore forever; not talking him into tent-time; taking him to meet Goldanna, hardening (or not); and suddenly, BAM!, his head is exploding and he's begging for a tumble. *shakes head* "Really, Alistair? Being rejected by your half-sister is what finally gets you hot and bothered? I'm not judging you, but is there even a name for a kink like that?"

(My Wardens are quite often female elves, and they take particular pleasure in setting him straight.)

I kept looking for that red-haired elf girl for my first several games to complete that quest since it sounds like a straight-forward fetch quest, but when I looked it up online I found the most convincing answer was that the interaction was intended as a reference to the red-haired elf girl Nessa who you might otherwise have helped to stay in the alienage if you had been a city elf- the one whose family was headed for Ostagar against her wishes. It's one of those origin-specific storylines that gets weaved into background like how you hear about a dead third Aeducan brother and a dead friend of Leske if you go to Orzammar as a non-dwarf-noble or non-dwarf-commoner, respectively. I like this, showing the impact we get to have on the world by playing a particular origin.

That said, it's fortuitous that the discussion is on line triggers from Alistair. I just got all the way to Landsmeet without Alistair ever doing the "Hey, I'm royal" confession on the bridge or mentioning Goldanna once. Every other NPC readily mentioned their special quests (unless Zevran has a different quest than the standoff with his former chum). Are those romance-required lines for him? I mean, he's been at 100% for quite a while, albeit not in the party for quite a while. Is this yet another ultimatum of his- love me or I won't relate to you? I did get his "Sorry for not telling you I'm royal" bit at Arl Eamon's Estate, but nothing triggered at the bridge of Redcliffe (did that part last after the Tower, dwarves, elves, and Denerim), and standing right next to Goldanna's door doesn't seem to trigger him in Denerim. My character is a female dwarf commoner, but he has no romance trouble with that, and I didn't issue him the rejection until much later- though probably before Redcliffe. Seems absurd that he wouldn't ask to see his sister if he thinks he can't go to bed with your character.

lol

[EDIT] Just checked the dragonagewiki- seems he needs to be in the party on arriving at Redcliffe to get the "Hey, I'm royal" bit. I did the Sacred Ashes before Redcliffe this time. It says that if you don't arrive with Alistair at Redcliffe, completing the Sacred Ashes will do it, but maybe completing the SA quest first forwent my "second chance" for the Goldanna trigger. Oh well, Mr. Kinky will have to do without... as will my Warden... Not the biggest XP, item, or gold rewards from his quest anyway... *shrugs*

[EDIT] Gah, nevermind... Seems Mr. Kinky does still do the Goldanna quest. I hadn't had him in party *after* the Arl Eamon Estate (meaning Arl Eamon had opened the "family" quest line), so now I get the Goldanna quest when leaving the Estate with Alistair in party. All's good- off to happy tidings from sis!

Hahahaha I know, right? I was thinking that myself my last playthrough. I had forgotten to do his quest and was sitting at 100% adore for sooo long that I was like WTF? Why doesn't he love me yet? Then I realized I hadn't done his quest so I went and did that... and all was right in the world again. ;)

Just did the Tower of Ishal. Alistair kept dying on me. I forgot to reset his tactics so he took health poultices. I went down to easy to beat the ogre. I take it that the Tribal Necklace doesn't go to anyone in particular but who would you give it to?

That's what I thought.  That's what it says in the game guide but it doesn't say that on the wiki. Anyway it isn't worth that much in points right.

I'm trying to remember. I just started another game myself and I *think* it's worth +8, although it could be +10.
