Okay, so question:

If Duncan had lived, and left Ferelden to fall to the Blight like DG says he would have, would Alistair have gone with him?

Do you think a PC's refusal to leave would have influenced him at all?

So the PC is alive in this scenareo and refuses to leave?

Yes, the PC, Alistair and Duncan all survive Ostagar.  Duncan wants to leave Ferelden and join the Wardens in Orlais.  PC will go along with whatever.  In that case, does Alistair go?

What if the PC won't leave Ferelden?  Say...a Cousland says no, they will stay and fight.  Does that have any infuence with Alistair?

I think he is too starstruck with Duncan, and he'll do what he says

Yeah, I think maybe he would feel horrible about it, but go along with Duncan. He's not close with the PC yet.

At the beginning of the game? Duncan. I think he trusts Duncan's judgement and would go with him regardless of what the PC wants to do. He'd probably want to stay, but I don't know if he would. He'd definitely feel terrible about it but I think he'd go with Duncan.

Maybe everyone's getting into Morrigan's hair gel, and Leliana's giving haircuts all across Ferelden. Everyone wants to look like Alistair!

Who wouldn't? I mean...

Yeah, they need more than a haircut.

Well, Oghren's hair is the wrong color. Posted Image

Okay, fair enough. I agree with that assessment. I think he would argue with Duncan, but ultimately go with him, even if it meant leaving the new recruit behind.

Slightly different scenario. Say Duncan does survive Ostagar, but it seperated from Alistair and the PC. How much time would have to pass, with the PC and Alistair on their own, before Alistair would refuse to go with Duncan when they finally meet back up?

From what Gaider has indicated, Alistair would have become fairly disillusioned with Duncan/the Wardens as time went on. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, were the PC willing to stay and fight for Ferelden, Alistair would stay, too.

Since it's mostly conjecture, I'm going to point to his guilt over leaving Lothering in the state it was in. I can't see him being ok with leaving an entire country to fall when there's any chance that he could help save it.

I think that Alistair would have needed to do at least one treaty and possibly at least get the start of a plan at Redcliffe even if Eamon was still in a coma although it would be better if he were awake.

Yeah, in the second scenario, I think Alistair would want to stay, and if the PC backed him up would do so. Lothering, alone, might be enough. He might even if he/she didn't. In the first, I think he'd go, but it would create a rift between him and Duncan.

I didn't know that DG had said that. Interesting! It puts a bit of a different complexion on having Alistair stay a warden. Would the PC be enough to keep that from happening, I wonder?

Without the PC, Alistair grows very disillusioned with the Wardens anyway.  If he remains a Warden, and the PC dies, Alistair leaves the Order, saying it's just not the same anymore.

So it's possible that even with the PC, he may not stay happy to be a warden, but would only remain because of them. There might be a story in that. ;)

Well, if he romances/is best friends with the PC, and stays a Warden, he's fine.  The PC death one hits him hard.  I don't know if the PC choosing to go off on other adventures has any affect.

We know he stays a warden, but we don't really know how he feels about them at that point. Inquiring minds might ponder. ;) *must stop chatting and go back to writing....*

I don't think he would have been a happy camper, but I think he would have left if Duncan insisted.

I still think Alistair would leave with Duncan, but upon leaving and having more time to think of the consequences? He would regret it immensely and it would definitely eat at him for the rest of his life, probably. But at the beginning of the game after Ostagar, if Duncan said "Let's go." I think he would have :D

Hehe, isn't it cute? Had to represent my Dalish sistahs with some awesome Aimo art :D

Huh what? Where does he say this? And why would he let Ferelden fall to the Blight?

On the forums he said Duncan would have left Ferelden and gone to Orlais to join up with the Wardens there.

It was in an old thread many moons ago.

As far as Alistair goes, he does get disillusioned with the wardens if the Warden dies, but I don't think that would be the case if the Warden left (to defend Fereldan) and Duncan was still alive. After all, Alistair does think the Fade shines out of Duncan't bum (to borrow a line from Ines).
