I use both IRS and MRP without any issues. (Of the other popular dialogue and flag fixes, ZDF - the Zevran Dialogue Fix - does have some files that conflict with IRS.)

Does ZDF have fixes for Alistair related flags/dialogue that aren't included in IRS? I looked at ZDF here in the projects section and found the ZDF Complete and the ZDF base.

http://social.biowar...ect/2402/#files

If I'm using IRS, can I just get the ZDF base and will that not conflict as much as the complete one? The Zev fixes are not top priority but if I can get them to work I'd like to use them.

It's really incredible how much work has been put into these. Maybe 10 years from now Bioware will incorporate all the fixes into an anniversary edition or something. They definitely deserve to be in the retail game.

I don't think ZDF fixes anything Alistair-specific that IRS doesn't. If you are using ZDF and IRS, you do need to remove the Alistair files that conflict from ZDF as per the IRS ReadMe. (I'm using the ZDF Complete Dialogue Tweaks version from DA Nexus, along with most of the optional fixes/tweaks.)

Since we're talking about some awesome mods, and I haven't posted on here for a bit, I thought I'd post some screenies I took from DahliaLynn's wonderful Royal Wedding mod:

Any Diablo players in the Alistair thread?

I've got TSG on pre-order...

And yes, playing Diablo III, old timer here so Diablo I was my very first computer game.  Diablo is nothing like DA of course, it's basically mindless but that's one of the things I like about it.

For some odd reason, the user who posted this in the machinima group seems to be concealing his identity. Nevertheless, while a bit "talky" in the Woody Allen sense, I felt this was very creative and nicely done and thought I would share here :wizard:

I picked up TSG hardcover while I was at San Diego Comic-Con (they were selling it and I pounced like a hyena on a wounded wildebeest), and I can say it is quite nice with some lovely sketches.  (i also picked up a Flemeth dragon figure which ROCKS!  I wuv dragons...)

And yup, playin' Diablo III here (in between bouts of Dragon Age, heh).  I immediately gravitate to rogue-like characters, so it's been... challenging, to say the least, since Diablo is just easier with a S&B.

Aaand, because:

Heh, this video is perfection <3 I dunno why the one who made it wants to remain anonymous. It was famous on tumblr for a while, even.

Honestly...I have read TSG lately and I don't get it... I find the story to be very confusing and that in a it makes not much sense-way. Well, I really hope that the sequel will explain...better.

I'm happy to see some activity in this thread still going on, because despite my avatar, I'm on a full fleshed Lenyastair trip atm. I spam my tumblr dash with screenshots of Lenya/Alistair and are even back to writing after...ages. So yay for the thread being not dead yet :D

Hey Alistair lovers/friends of Alistair/brothers(sisters)-in-arms/lurkers........and that guy over there----->

So I have never posted here before (at least I don't think I have.....bad memory all of a sudden), but I was wondering if any of you have some answers for a few Alistair related questions I have. First off, thanks in advance for even reading this, and big thanks for any insight you can share. Next, I should preface with the following; I have romanced Alistair multiple times, and I have romanced Zevran multiple times. I have even (once accidently and once on purpose) flirted with both while trying to have a successful romance arc with one of them. However, I have a new play through where I am trying to do something a bit different (well, different for me) and I am in need of a bit of info.

Normally I would not metagame quite so much, but after doing a number of play throughs without metagaming, I decided to try a few very specific things....I am making up the play through and fleshing out my Warden this time around, before actually playing it all out. I am now getting long-winded; I apologize. On to the questions:

1) For RP purposes, I would like to romance Alistair and flirt with Zevran (eventually end up with Zevran). Are there certain breakup points in Alistair's dialogue that do less damage to his approval meter than others? And, if you sleep with Alistair then break up with him eventually (sooner or later), will you loose all approval points? Will it set you back to Neutral or drop you even further?

2) My goal is something like this; my CE in question does in fact grow close to Alistair, but she is a bit tired of feeling forced to feel certain ways (still a bit bitter about an arranged marriage), and keeps him a bit at arms length. He eventually gives her the rose, and either then or after, she chooses a flirt option that triggers the romance. She continues to raise his approval (now I'm talking gameplay....story is long and drawn out; no need to bore you all...hehe!), and he finally proposes they sleep together. She agrees. She cares for him, but suspects that a relationship with a human will probably not end well (oh, and this will be a hardened Alistair). At some point after she sleeps with Alistair, she will trigger the Zevran romance.

Now, as asked above, will she be able to break it off with Alistair without sending her plummeting down to the hate/dislike end of the spectrum? Or can she at least break up with Alistair after sleeping with him but BEFORE she initiates the Zevran romance, and worse case scenario, sets him back to neutral.

Here are a few thoughts; from a human nature standpoint, I would totally get Alistair being disgruntled (hell, downright rage worthy) if he is broken up with after sleeping together. But, this CE of mine is not out to hurt him. I see her as kind, and affectionate, but with a strangely practical side to her. She has never been involved with a human, nor even considered it before meeting Alistair. After sleeping with him, I can see her pulling away from him.......she just doesn't see how this could go any further....even when she cares for him. It also is a bit frightening because any sort of serious relationship seems confining to her. When she finally starts to really notice Zevran, she is just happy to get along with another fellow Elf (she is spritely BTW...has a sense of humor). When THEY finally get together, again, I see her as being fine with just a fanciful fling, but over the course of the play through, she eventually comes to have feelings for him. After they fight Talisen, she starts to believe that Zev could have feelings for her, but of course, he doesn't confirm them till a bit later (as any Zevmancer knows...*wink*).

Anyway tl;dr my hopes are as followed:
1) Care for Alistair.....
2) Sleep with him (from a very metagamey standpoint, I just like this idea, since she also intends to persuade Alistair to do the DR.....really like the idea of him having his first time be with someone he ACTUALLY does fancy.)
3) Breakup with Alistair without having him hate her (but before the Landsmeet)
4) Get together with Zev and play out the whole romance arc.

Oh, and Equal Love/Polygamy mod is not an option.....conflicts with other mods I have, and it's not what I am looking for anway.. THANKS again!! :) (hope that wasn't terribly confusing.....yeesh!)

Well, what a coincidence. I have currently my toolset open. Lol. And hello here in the bit grown quiet thread :D

If you want a soft fallout of the relationship with Alistair, the talk about the kingship is your safest route. After he confessed your Warden his feelings and, well, the night happened, your approval should easily be high enough to talk with him about "Where do you see this going between us?" Of course you need to know about his heritage, but that goes without saying here, lol.

In the conversation choose "I don't know that there is a future for us, actually." And then you get the opportunity to end it. If he is in love, it will set the flag "Still in love." Otherwise the flag gets cleared completely. Either way, steel yourself for a heavy usage of sad puppy dog eyes here.

Hope that helped at least a bit. If you have questions left, just ask ;)

Thank you!!!  Cookies, cookies, everywhere cookies!  Or cake....I'm easy.Posted Image  You rock!

As for the "puppy dog face"  ouch!  It hurts...I have experienced it once (though not from a full on in love Ali...he just really really wiked me..Posted Image).  I know myself well enough that I will have the "pain reliever" (booze) when that time comes......seriously, the first time I ever saw that look I set my controller down (used to play on the xbox), turned my tv screen off, and walked outside....HA!  I felt awful.  BUT, I soldiered on.Posted Image So I have been mentally preparing myself for it.  It is nice to know that you can still have a friendly relationship with him.  Again, this Warden is not cold....and if circumstances were different she probably wouldn't have involved herself with any person until later in life.  But being thrown in a life/death struggle, having a shorter life span (yeah....thanks for that Duncun....I kid, I kid....cuz I lovePosted Image), she sees things, does things, that sets her on paths she didn't consider or know how to handle very well, due to a lack of age and experience.  Enough rambling.....Thanks again!

Stupid toolset... I can never find dlg files I want. So, in lieu of that, I opened a game I'm currently playing to give you another option. In this playthrough, my warden is a human mage, Alistair is already in love and they have slept together. By simply selecting the option to break up with him, in which you still get the sad puppy eyes, and he'll ask you why, it will only reset his approval to friendly, but you'll still be at 100.

Also a warning: if you want to romance Zevran, you should make sure your approval is pretty high (care or higher) if not already in the romance *before* you reach Denerim for the Landsmeet to ensure that you get the fun choices in dialogue after Taliesen.

Also, it is possible - though difficult - to be in a romance with both of them by the end of the game if you don't make Alistair the King and keep him a Grey Warden. It's tricky, and involves metagaming (obviously) but it is possible.

EDIT: Just remember that Alistair doesn't care if you sleep with Zevran *until* he has a very high approval rating (I think Care) so you can have a burgeoning romance with both (several of my wardens do this) until he calls you on the carpet.

@BevH and @tklivory - Thank you both for your input.....hmmm......good food for thought. I have romanced Zev both exclusively and late in the game, so I will keep remembering the time constraint of Zev's romance arc in relation to Talisen's meeting. But.......both of you bring up some interesting ideas....I could just let it go back to Friendly with Alistair (though I haven't ruled out @Merilsell's info regarding a breakup path that keeps him at "still in love"), and then there is the option of juggling both of them.....bah! Choices??? Choices?? What is with these stinkin' choices?!?! HEHEHE......So many ways to play...such a good thing! :)

Quick questions to @tklivory - On that last part that you editted in on your post, did your Warden ALSO already sleep with Alistair as well as Zevran (like your Warden initiating sexy time with Ali before he makes the suggestion)? Did I even just make sense?? :D

Since you can't sleep with Alistair until Care or Love, no, you can't 'sleep' with both of them at the same time without mods.  So, you can sleep with Zevran *up until* you choose to sleep with Alistair, but even if you're at Love with Alistair, he'll still ask you to dump Zevran before he'll actually jump in the hay with you.  There's a way to be in an active romance that is at 'Love' with both characters at the end of the game, but it involves shenanigans, metagaming, and taking advantage of the fact that you can break up with Zevran in such a way that it allows you to get back together with him later.  (It's complicated, but I know it can be done, and it's very hard to arrange.)

(And actually, I have to correct myself when I said it can only be done when Alistair is a Grey Warden: I distinctly remember an ending now where I was the King's mistress (he was all 'can't wait to get away' at the coronation) but Zevran was also in Love with me at the Coronation.  Hmmm...)

A "still in love" Alistair does revert to Friendly, with no romance dialogue/"activities" available, so juggling him with another LI isn't possible. ("Still in love" is a plot flag set at the time of breakup, which may govern certain of Alistair's actions/reactions late in the game, she wrote cryptically.)

I know, it sounds crazy, but it is possible - just very difficult to do (and may take advantage of a bug, for all I know) but I do know that I've managed it in the game, though only with Zev and Alistair (never tried it with Leliana and another LI).

The key is that both Leliana and Zevran have a flag set at a particular point that breaks off the romance in a 'soft' way (i forget what the toolset says, I'd have to look it up later) so that it could be re-established again at a later point.  In that case, if you are in 'Love' with Alistair *after* the Landsmeet, but broke it off 'softly' with Zevran, then re-initiate the romance with Zevran once you restore his status to high approval/Friendly and then never speak to either of them for the rest of the game (hence, the 'metagaming' aspect), you can be 'In Love' at the end.

Like I said, it involves shenanigans and metagaming, but it *is* possible - barely, and not really worth it from an RP point of view.  I was just astounded it was possible.

Okay, this is starting to make so much sense......I couple of years ago, I had a play through with a very pragmatic Dalish Elf named Zyla, and she romanced Alistair, but didn't harden him. Eventually she became all about the "job", she didn't chitchat much with Alistair, and I believe she inadvertently hit a flirt option with Zevran. After the fight with Taliesen, Zev DOES offer the "gift", and I chose the "correct" response, just on pure luck. Still didn't know I had "started" something with Zev.

So, we come to the Landsmeet, kill Loghain, make Ali king, and he promptly breaks up with Zyla (being the kind of gal she was, she accepted it.....though I did this blind, so I had NO idea Alistair would break up with a non-human under those circumstances.....ouch...hehe). After all that, back at camp, I get the "massage" talk from Zev (which my gal accepts....go with the flow, right? *wink*), and by post coronation, Zev wants to go adventuring. It should be noted, that since I didn't know about the "gift" from Zev, the romance arc was never fully completed, but I could still RP it as though she ended up splitting her time with the GW's and adventuring with Zev.

I don't think I want to go that route again, but still, it does give me lots of choices. I think I will probably stick with what my initial plan was, and do a "practical" break up with Alistair, then move on to Zev.

Oh, and I also have accidently done the soft Zevran breakup before.....I was very green at the time, and was doing an Alistair exclusive run, but still managed to hit flirt lines with Zev.....twice! Doh! Why do I always have to play such snarky little Wardens.....they always get me in trouble....HA! :D

I put together an Excel spreadsheet (available on my projects page) listing every line of Alistair's dialogue across DAO/DAA (and DLC). While it does not include mapped dialogue paths or info about Approval/plot flags, it does identify all of the *.dlg files that include his dialogue (in the "File" field). I find it very helpful for keeping track of the conversations that "live" outside of alistair_main.dlg.
