I put together an Excel spreadsheet (available on my projects page) listing every line of Alistair's dialogue across DAO/DAA (and DLC). While it does not include mapped dialogue paths or info about Approval/plot flags, it does identify all of the *.dlg files that include his dialogue (in the "File" field). I find it very helpful for keeping track of the conversations that "live" outside of alistair_main.dlg.

More to the point of Alistair in DA 3, I think a good way to tie up all the possible endings is to center his involvement about his Calling. From King to Drunk, every Alistair variation succumbs to the Calling eventually. (Except for Corpse Alistair, but I don't accept that as an ending)

I know that's going to get a partial boo hiss from Alistair fans, because it involves his death. But that has to happen sometime. I like the dramatic endings to epic characters, and I enjoy the "One Last Mission" scenario. Also, I couldn't imagine Alistair dying without saving the world one last time.

(I also think the GW should wear a obscuring hood to clear up that absolutely none of the faces look alike, I'd rather Bioware work on the story rather than focusing on an import/conversion program)

I like the idea of Alistair being in DA3 - as long as he looks like Alistair in DA:O more than the poorly lit one in DA2 (seriously, it wasn't the morph, it was the lighting - sad, really). Anyhoo, I do hope in DA3 the crux of the story revolves around the 'disappeared' Hero of Ferelden (for Wardens that don't die) and 'lost' Champion of Kirkwall being found and their disappearances explained. (Not sure about the US endings). I could see Alistair in either of those scenarios (barring his death, of course) as King, not so sure about the drunk Alistair, though Teagan could 'save' him fully, I suppose...

Hello again, lovely Alistair fans! I have a few more questions, if anyone is inclined... :)

I have been playing this warden very slowly this time (this is the first time playing DAO on the PC; originally played DAO on the xbox....5 complete play throughs, 2 half finished....). As such (and with the help of mods), I have gotten to see more out of the game, than I did as an xbox player...woot! (not to mention....it is MUCH prettier...heh!)

Because of this, I have deviated from my original storyline for my Warden. This deviation caused me to NOT choose the flirt option I usually use to initiate the romance (the option that is available after giving Alistair his mother's locket).

So now I went through the Wiki, because I could have sworn there was a flirt option from one of the dialogue points, that has a more....hmmmm....."natural" feel to it (vs say the "Do you know your handsome?" dialogue). I thought there was a flirt line (to activate the romance) in both the Rose dialogue and the dialogue he eventually starts when hardening him. It is possible I just missed reading it on the Wiki (that happens a lot to me....hehe, bloody page can get a bit screwy on the eyes), but I thought I might ask if anyone here knows of a good flirt option, that doesn't sound quite so "obviously" flirty.....if that makes any sense. Considering how I am RPing this Warden, she is a bit more on the subtle side right now (though I see her growing bolder as time goes on....hence why she will end things with Alistair eventually, press him to be King, and take up with Zev. She's gonna be a busy girl. HA!)

Thank you all in advance for any insight, and for reading my blatherings! :)

I rarely use the "handsome" line to initiate the romance. (And, held in reserve, I find it very useful for emergencies that require 'fixing' a broken romance later in the game... like when I accidentally order him to marry Anora, for example.)

Alistair only offers the rose if he is at Care (i.e. the romance has already been initiated), so there isn't a romance starter line in there, AFAIK. (Though there are romance killers a-plenty.:crying:)

The line in the initial hardening conversation is under one of the non-hardening trees (Tell him he has people who care  for him, and then choose the one that is something like "I care for you. More than you know.")

I like to use the romance starter in his Redcliffe daddy reveal ("You're here with me. I think I'm the lucky one."), or the ones in his plot gift conversations - telling him you care or that he's special usually gets him going. <3

Isn't there a mod that changes one of the lines in the hardening conversation so that you can harden him but still not come off as a total jerk? Hmmm, I wish I had my toolset...

And I know the amulet convo has something similar to 'I care for you. More than you know' type of lines as well. I like using those lines, too - he's so startled and cute when he 'learns' you might, ya know, like him.

Oooh, I'll have to wait until I'm home to add some of my new smutty screenies...  Ahh, I did miss the days o' Alistair whilst I was away...

Yep. IRS adds a non-jerk line to harden him, but I'm not sure if it's a romance starter or not. Both of his plot gifts (the amulet and Duncan's shield) have romance starter lines: "Of course I remembered. You're special to me." and "For you? Anything."

It's actually harder to avoid starting Alistair's romance than to start it, in my experience. *shakes head and wonders why Alistair keeps trying to hump the Warden's leg*

Ohh, the one with Duncan's shield!  I forgot about that (I presume most people don't wait that long to initiate the romance with Alistair).  That one *is* great.  <3  I remember I played a Cousland who loved Rory and didn't want to get in a relationship with anyone, but flirted with all three of the LI's without initiating any romances (she always avoided it at the last minute).  It was the first time I got that far without initiating the romance, and I was like, "huh? what's that line?"    That was fun.  One time I didn't initiate the romance until the last possible second (right before the Archdemon battle, or right before entering Fort Drakon, I forget which).  Just fascinating.

Thank you @theskymoves and @tklivory! Your thoughts are much appreciated. *sigh* I was afraid of that. I knew about the "amulet" dialogue option to initiate it (and that is the one I usually take), but for some reason, I decided to use the "friend" choice, simply because I imagined this Warden to be a bit slower with everything (taking her time), and I thought there was another romance initiator that I could use later.....bleh....guess it's the "Handsome" dialogue for me....hehe!

If I wasn't trying to do something so specific in this play through, I would wait for Duncun's shield, but my timeline has me breaking it off with Alistair before getting to the warehouse stash. At that point I should already be in my romance with Zevran. Hmmm.....I may have to ponder things for a moment.

There are other romance starters... *thinks* In the "What changes about you after the Joining?" conversation, the "I can think of much better lines for you" > "Really? Why don't you try them?" option should do it. In the "Why did you keep your birthright a secret?" conversation, the "I do like you and not because of your blood." option will make the romance active, and there are a couple in the lamppost conversation. *thinks again* He asks the Warden's opinion on having said she's beautiful; "I might like hearing it from you" sets the romance flag to active, as does the tree where you can tell him you'd like to be courted by a gentleman. (That last one is especially sweet.)

I should go through and make a list of all his romance starters/killers. *makes note to do that*

@theskymoves - Yes, yes, yes! That's right......the lampost AND the Grey Warden talk (I think I may have already missed the "keeping his bloodline secret.....need to double check)!! Silly thing is, I think I saw that when I was skimming the Wiki, but I was so tunnelvisioned with the Rose dialogue and the Hardening dialogue, that it didn't seem to register....heh!

BTW; lovely screenshots! Do you do love scene shots every thursday? :)

I know there's romance starters in the flying dogs dialogue, too (umm, I think that's the one where you ask him about being raised by Arl Eamon?). Of course, that's my favorite dialogue tree - you get approval for the oddest things. Any time you let him joke around and don't get exasperated - those are as fun for romance starting as the subtle 'i like you too' bits.

In fact, I think the only conversation without a romance starter is when you ask him about the other Wardens, and possibly when he wants to gossip... though I'd have to have the toolset in front of me to be sure...

And yes, tsm, please update that sheet! In fact, I could do it tonight since I plan on doing some morphin' and short story writin' with the toolset... Hmmm (makes note to self for once I'm home)

Thanks! My Wardens love their Alistair.<3 There are theme days, though I guess they've pretty much fallen by the wayside... Thursday is Smut day, and Tuesday is Ritual Dismemberment day, and there's a third one I can't remember... details are in the first post in the thread.

Right. Tell him you think it's "thrilling" that he's a prince. That's a starter line, too. (And the one about the Warden dreaming of "making mad love in my tent"? Not a romance starter:?, even though he does approve. ;))

What resolution/settings do you find are best? (to get the best screenshots of Alistair of course... to stay on topic)

I was playing in 1920 x 1080, but everything is so small, so I switched to 1280 x 720 but then the lettering is blurry and the character face is fuzzy. I currently have a low-end IPS (16:9) and the colors are supposed to be accurate (they seem so with photographs and such), but DA doesn't look as good as when I played on my xbox with my TV, which makes no sense. So I know I must be doing something wrong setting-wise on the PC.

Do you tweak your monitor settings at all?

Edit: My graphic details are on High, should I add anti-aliasing?

I use 16:9 1920x1080, but then I take the pictures and crop them and do some very light enhancing of the colors. As for looking better in-game, do you have any high-res texture mods? I can't even play without them anymore - i feel like I'm playing on my PS3. (*shudder*). The truth is that the textures that shipped with the PC version of the game weren't altered by Bioware for the PC from the PS3/Xbox versions, and since a PC has a much higher native resolution than a TV, the images come across as blurred and muddy comparatively.

I have Graphics Details on Very High, Textures Detail on High, and no Anti-Aliasing, but use the Hi-res textures in my override folder, and enjoy the experience.

Oh wow...:o I had no idea. I may very well need those high res textures then. Can I find them here or are they on the DA Nexus?

There's three main ones, and I can't say which ones are better or not, but they're all available on the Nexus.  Make sure to read the comments to get a bit more familiar with the pitfalls and installation quirks of the packs:

4Aces HiRes Pack
JB3Textures
HDR Textures

There's also another one I've never tried that sorta does it on the fly, but I don't know how well it works.  You could give it a try, though, since it is a much smaller mod to download:

DAO Graphics Enhancer

The problem is that there's Graphics Details, and textures.  Textures, of course, make up the majority of what you see, but weren't upgraded the way everything else was, so...  Googling it makes for quite a few fun rants to read about the (perceived) lack of effort on Bioware's end.  Just be aware that higher textures require higher computer power.  It's an older game, but just be aware of that.

I can't get IRS to work anymore.
I uninstalled my game and reinstalled and I installed the mod and it shows up under installed content, but none of the features are showing up.

I want to start finding Alistair dialogue that I haven't gotten in the game yet. I'm sure I've missed tons of later stuff because I can't wait that long to initiate the romance.

I haven't gotten the toolset to work yet. I installed it, but I'm a little confused about the whole SQL thing. Do I need to connect to a special bioware server all the time in order to use it? Other toolsets I've used I just installed and they had a database of sorts as part of the install and it went on my computer.

Did you see the project tsm talked about a few posts earlier?  She has a project with Alsitair's dialogue tree.  Not giving away which lines do what for approval and romance, but it should be fun to explore...

When I installed the toolset, it installed a local copy of SQL to my desktop and stored all data locally.  If you install it using the defaults, the Toolset should do that (make sure you have version 1.0.1 which should be the latest).   Maybe you could try uninstalling it and reinstalling it?  If you're using Windows 7, try installing it by right-clicking the installation file and using Run As Administrator to avoid any permissions issues.

Also, @ Melca: ooo, nice Monday morning wakeup!  Thank you! =]

Yep, got it. I then realized that I hadn't installed an excel type program on my pc yet. Will go hunting for one.

I think I'm going to try reinstalling first and make sure I got with the defaults. Is this anything like tortoisehg? I was trying to get that working with bitbucket a month ago and just couldn't get it to work either. I think it has something to do with win 7 being finicky.

Edit: I'm trying to remember where I saw this... I'm almost certain it was in a screenshot on this thread. It was an alternate camp (or just a clearing) with a mini lake or pond or something. And there were screenshots of the Warden and Alistair. Was this part of a mod? Or just someone using the toolset to get screenshots? I'll try to find the page it's on.
