Hi, long time lurker, here. I had to replace my PS3, which gave me an excuse to unlock the DA trophies again. So help me, I tried so hard not to romance Alistair. (I had already unlocked his trophy, which come to think of it is a great euphemism.) Next thing I know, he's giving me the damn rose. He's too loveable. I keep romancing him by accident!
(Haven't played DA2 yet, so I can't speculate on what I'd like to see in DA3.)

i hadn't played DAO in so long that until i started a new playthrough recently (inspired after i just finished reading "the calling" >.>), i'd almost forgotten how much i loved alistair's romance. i've still yet to finish zevran's, leliana's and morrigan's romances, but they'll just have to wait

From my POV, it is just a book about a video game world, and a video game world that lost me with the second game. (Not to mention it is a book, that, from all indications and the leaked pages on Amazon, etc., will only further muddy and confuse the already muddy and confusing lore.) YMMV, of course, and since this is way off-topic for the Alistair thread, here's an on-topic Alistair. :innocent:

In the final battle, when they're in the Denerim Market, all the rest of my squad went down. Main character, Wynn, and Zevran all died. The hurlock general had over half of his health left, and Alistair totally took him down.

I have always liked Alistair, but there was a particular scenario that I played through about a month ago that sent my fangirling over the top. It had nothing to do with the romance at all. See, in an effort to play through as many different scenarios as possible, I've been playing through the game with six different characters (all six Origins, three men, three women) and one of the characters was a male mage named Lucius who loves Morrigan and hates all templars out of hand. Alistair spent most of the game in camp. However, when we had to pull him out for the Landsmeet we went ahead, leveled him up as I normally would for a more sympathetic Warden, and sent him to the Landsmeet. He had noble's clothing and a second-hand sword.
We ran into Cauthrian. She attacked.
Lucius and Sten both died. Morrigan and Alistair were left. Cauthrien was still at full strength, and she had two guards.
We won that battle. Actually, Alistair won that battle with a little help from Morrigan. He's the one who slew Cauthrian.
Lucius was scheduled to have Alistair executed. I had to get off the computer and do housework instead. I just couldn't do it. After about a week, Lucius exiled Alistair, but that was not an easy decision. It was the first time it really hit me how essential he usually is to any battle plan I have; whatever we are supposed to think, and whatever the characters say about him, Alistair's the most impressive warrior character in the game.

You're welcome! I think it's quite common that talent effects seem to remain visually active when switching to a cutscene. Nothing out of the ordinary I suspect.

Unrelated, but does anyone know why when Alistair blinks or closes his eyes, it looks like his top eye lash stays on stuck below the bottom eyelash... or something like that. I don't have any mods affecting Alistair's appearance so I'm confused. Is it a Vanilla game thing?

On my current playthrough I have him at 100% approval and active romance but its not triggering.
i wanted to do it before the whole redcliff ordeal and before he reveales his lieage (for headcannon reasons)
Does he have to reaveal his parantage and do you have to do his personal quest before he will trigger the scene or is my game glitched somehow?

Yes, that is so. IIRC, all the conditions for Alistair to initiate sex are:
active romance
personal quest completed
Approval @ Love (+90 or +91, and again, his personal quest completed)
He'll stay at Adore forever if you don't him to meet his sister, and at Adore, he'll never ask for tent time... he will agree if the Warden initiates at around +80 or so, though, even if he's not in love.
You can get Alistair's personal quest by entering Redcliffe, getting his Daddy reveal, and then his Goldanna story, but not proceding far enough into the village to encounter Tomas... leave Redcliffe immediately after receiving his personal quest, in other words. I believe the approval required for him to confide in the Warden about his sister is minimal... less than 30, certainly.
ETA that I just reread the original question, and there is no way to achieve the goal of having Alistair ask for sex before revealing his parentage... the triggers are sequential, unfortunately. (It may be possible to do something with the console, but I would hesitate to advise doing that, since it might be game breaking and cause other events to not trigger properly. Other players would be better equipped to speak to that, though... I like to let nature take its course.
