Ah yes, that's a tricky fight.

Don't forget you have armies of allies to call on. I usually summon one for that fight. Dwarves seem to do well. They're tough and magic resistant (important since you have several enemy spellcasters there).

Oops - I forgot to mention that part. I usually call up the Redcliffe forces.

Been a while since I've had ToP (and it's Tuesday):

The easiest way is to quote someone's post that has used a picture. Simply substitute your own website address. I'd show you how to write it but it keeps trying to post an actual picture. Posted Image

@ angelic-wounds: In order to post a picture, first you have to have the PC version of the game (or, if you have Xbox or PS3 version, take snaps with your camera phone) then post them to a picture hosting website (such as Imageshack).  Then to make them show here, you have to type "img" WITHOUT the quotation marks and inside brackets that look like this: [ ].  Then paste the link following the bracket, then you need to type /img in brackets after the link.  Do not put any spaces between the link and the brackets.

I usually use Imageshack and the "Direct Link" option as the website host but photobucket also has links to do this with as well. Not sure what else is out there, but I'm sure those aren't the only 2.

I had to write the explanation out in kind of a funny way so it wouldn't confuse my post with wanting an image (which it tries to do if you just type it out).  I apologize if it makes no sense, I tried to sort it out as best I could without mucking up my post, I hope I did so with sufficient clarity.

but posting pics of Alistair is good:wub:.

Alistair saying one of his catchphrases, posted for the fun that is Alistair and also to check my post to make sure I got it right.

heheh I actually cried when I saw Fergus in the room my first time playing a Cousland. I really love that family, so wonderful and warm and well written, impacting me very much for such a small role in the overall story.

Congrats Angelic!

Soooo...bringing it in just under the wire, my Cousland mage, Rose, finally got to be with Alistair. After a rocky year which saw them arguing over Duncan (she felt he took advantage of the situation in Highever and resented him forcing her to be a Gray Warden) and resolving the issue in Redcliffe (she allowed Jowan to perform his ritual), they dealt with Loghain and the Landsmeet.

I used the console to change her class, and was curious if it was possible to put a mage on the throne of Ferelden. This has been one of the most fun playthroughs I've done of the game, shaking up how I did things. For instance, I learned even if you never flirt with Cullen, he still has a crush on the female mage.  The Circle dialogues all reflected her class, thinking she was there before.  I just kind of ignored any that were mage-specific.  My RP for her was that she had been trained by Aldous in secret, a secret that was better kept than Connor's (but then, Bryce was a lot more intelligent than that stupid cow, Isolde).

Snapshot is from Cmessaz Improved Romance Scenes:Alistair mod (which no fan of Alistair who plays on the PC should be without!)

Didn't get the wedding scene though, mod must have thought I was a mage-origin character, even though I got the Queen epilogue slides.  (Yes, I have that mod too).  Ahh well, can't have everything, and at least Rose got Alistair!

Combining two of my favorite gentlemen in DAO, I used a younger version of my Teagan morph to have Alistair woo my Amell, Melita. Lucky lady.

Sharing a quiet moment with her fella in camp.

and sexy times ensue as well.

Think I'll use this morph when i run my Surana through as well since she ends up with Teagan in my fanfic.

Not romancing Alistair this game (playing my male Amell) but they definitely have a 'bro-mance' going on. Alistair is my favorite character in Origins, and I still get a kick out of Steve Valentine's voice acting. He really makes the character come to life for me. I think this time I'll leave him unhardened as Daylen is a much kinder, gentler character than my Lady Amell, and some of those 'hardening dialogues' are kind of harsh.  Necessary, but still come off kind of cold/harsh to me (even with Cmessaz's mod).

So, I've been trying a new Alistair (he changes just about every game I play). Got it into my head to put my .mor for my King Cousland (Gawain) onto his shoulders. Can't decide if its stranger seeing a different face on Alistair altogether or seeing the face that previously had no expression suddenly being expressive and vocal.  Plus, I didn't want him to have the same hairdo as Cailan (and Zevran), but honestly I didn't like any of the other 100 hairs I have in my game on him.  And for some reason, the lighting in camp makes his beard/brows so dark...doesn't look that dark in my game...hmm

I found it absolutely hilarious to romance Alistair. Sure, you can be all earnest and sweet but it's much more fun to make jokes and poke fun at the guy at every opportunity.

I never laughed harder than when he propositioned me early on, I think it was just as he gave me the rose, and I called his bluff. The back-pedalling and embarrassment that ensued was just too funny, culminating in "I'll just go stand over there until the blushing stops..." I just about died. XD

He is entirely too adorable. XD

Hi guys, just wondering if you saw our Steve Valentine in the latest series of Supernatural. He looks a little decent with a short hair and you could really hear Alistair there when he speaks ;)

Hello fine gush thread! I have a technical question for those well versed in the art of plot flag fu.

In my pursuit for Saddest Ending Ever ™, I seem to have encountered a stumbling block. The goal is to romance Alistair, get him to marry Anora, and then experience luscious heartbreak and grief after being broken up with, capped off with the Ultimate Sacrifice. Well, after the break up, the game drops Alistair to Friendly (which I assume is there to prevent sexytimes after breaking up), but there's no mention of the romance having ever occured now - Morrigan gives her overshadowed line at the ritual offer, there's no gushy goodbye at the gates of Denerim, and I don't get the "you will be missed" at the funeral.

My question is this: should there be some kind of plot flag that isn't firing here, or is this just how it has to be? If it's the former, how can I fix it? I'm using IRS Alistair (who doesn't, hurr hurr) and the Morrigan restoration patch (made compatible by getting rid of the alistsir.dlg file there). If the latter, are there any mods that do such a thing, or is it possible should I take a dive in the toolset?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the wall of text.

What was Alistair's approval before the relationship ended? There is a "still in Love" flag that is set after the breakup, if he is @ Love. That flag should trigger the romance-related lines for the end game. If he's just romanced, and was never @ Love prior to ending it with him, I don't believe the romance-related lines are supposed to trigger.

ETA that the current version of MRP doesn't have an alistair dialogue file (alistair_main.dlg, or otherwise...). *scratches head*

Thanks for the reply! He was maxed out before the break up (100 Love approval). I see that the old Alistair Dialogue Patch has something to correct the flag not firing, but I also see that IRS contains many of these same fixes, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working. Should I ditch the Morrigan patch (doesn't really matter since she's leaving once the ritual is refused anyway).

Does the post break up conversation do anything here? Just curious.

EDIT: Oh maybe I've got something hella outdated here that's doing it. Let me see if mods need updating.

I'm running through it now. (I just happened to have a save very similar to what you're trying to do.) The plot flag does set Alistair's approval to friendly after the break up. It'll take me a couple of hours to get to the end (barring interruptions), but I'll let you know what happens in my game. And, TSM is correct, there is a plot flag that sets Alistair to "still in love" after the break up.

Weird update: Just to test, I uninstalled IRS, and found a fourth post breakup camp talk option - "Are you going to be all right?" - that I hadn't seen before. Clicking it, however, doesn't give me any dialogue at all and ends the conversation.

I have IRS installed and I got that option too when I tried talking to him at Redcliffe before fighting the darkspawn there. It started with "I want to talk about us." It's just a short conversation post break up.

Now for my run with your parameters (my poor Arianna... she sacrifices a lot "for science" - lol). Yes it does drop Alistair's approval to friendly if you don't convince him otherwise. However, as stated, it should set a flag to "still in love". Regarding Morrigan's Ritual offer, I believe she says the overshadowed line anytime you refuse. The key here is if she talks about Alistair losing the woman he loves. I left Alistair at the gate in Denerim (there's no knock out punch if there's no romance) and I still got the kiss. And finally, at the funeral, Alistair remarks the he thought they would be together forever (even though Anora is standing right there *giggle*) and his last line, for me, was "You will be missed more than you know."

So, it appears to be either a plot flag not firing, or it could be a response in the conversation that you did/did not give that's causing the plot flag to not set.

I think I've discovered the solution to my issue: it's bizarre and incomprehensible, and I present it here only for analysis by larger brains.

I saw somewhere that IRS (even IRS for mild romance scenes) is incompatible with the newest version of mild romances. So I uninstalled mild romance scenes, plugged in IRS standalone, reloaded a pre-Landsmeet save, ran through it, and voila - the "still in love" flag sets, I can get all the way through that fourth "Are you going to be all right?" option post-breakup, everyone is deliciously miserable, etc etc. However, continuing this game, Morrigan never mentions Alistair losing the woman he loves during her ritual offer, and when I get to Denerim for the final battle, none of the romance dialog appears for Alistair's goodbye.

The only thing I had that did anything to Morrigan was the Morrigan Dialog Restoration patch, so I removed it from my override folder and tried again from pre-Landsmeet. Sure enough, Morrigan now referenced Alistair losing the woman he loved and I got my sad goodbyes at the Denerim gates (no kiss, though, but whatever I got most of what I wanted).

I've heard of IRS and the Morrigan Restoration Patch coming into conflict when there was a alistair_main.dlg file in MRP, but I have no idea why the two would fight when there's nothing they both share.

Thank you for the assistance - if anyone knows why any of this happened, or where/when the plot flag stuff cheesed up, I'd be interested in knowing the science behind the Saddest Ending Ever Failure.

A STUPID EDIT: I've just realized I also have Gatekisses on here - when Gatekisses is removed, my Denerim goodbye dialog reverts to friend, so I officially have absolutely no idea what's going on here.

As far as I ,know both are compatible with each other. Cmess has both in her game I think (the author of IRS). I currently run both, but am unsure if I removed any files from MRP. I seem to recall doing so, and, if so, it would have been alistair_main.dlg as that will conflict. You can't have more than one in your override or they conflict.

Some dialogues will also terminate the romance as well, resulting in a 'friendship' instead of former lovers, making the game treat the relationship as never there, so the breakup has to be handled carefully to maintain the 'still in love' flag. His affection will still read "Friendly", but there should be a plot flag there for 'still in love'.

@Xetykins Thanks!  I'll have to check out Supernatural on Hulu, I never watch that but will for Steve V.

The latest version of Mild Romance scenes (the one current available for download, which adds an Alistair/Warden scene if the ritual is not accepted and certain relationship conditions exist) is not compatible with IRS-A.

I asked tmp about it in the mod comments area.  This was the question and the response:

tsm: With the very intriquing addition of the Alistair Redcliffe scene, does this continue to be compatible with IRS - Alistair? (Please say yes... please say yes...)

tmp: theskymoves: afraid not, in the sense this version of the mod won't have the things IRS adds on its own, and IRS doesn't have a way to trigger the new scene. As a work-around, you could simply uninstall IRS for a moment when you reach Redcliffe castle and install this version of the mod, choose the scene, then remove the mod and put IRS back. Or alternatively, unpack this mod to 'override/toolsetexport' folder so it gets higher priority, and remove it after you're done viewing the scene, so IRS can work again.

And Gatekisses has always been a mess for me, never been able to get the right dialogue out of Alistair for any of my elf Wardens, no matter what the relationship state.
