Hey! That Alistair looks familiar! ;D

I edit my posts all the time. (Because me and spelling, words, and that kind of stuff do not get along. At all.) At the bottom of my previous posts, I have the option to Edit and Hide them... though maybe that's not there for you fancy-pants mobile people? *fretful face*

No, I was on my desktop. I'm just blind

Just bit on my cards chastity belt and bought a new stationary pc and laptop for dai. I'm going to regret it soon because now im broke and have to eat the cheapest pot noodles for the rest next month :-(
So bring on the dai Alistair. I hope he does not look like a potatoe thats been deaded by cyanide poisoning.

And has anyone of you pre-ordered yet? Im really unsure now cuz apparently, pre-order bonus differs on where you purchase it from.

I haven't pre-ordered.  What is the bonus for pre-ordering?  I wish I could just buy Inquisition through Steam and get a sweet discount :(.

I share your fears about Alistair's face in Inquisition.  I like Morrigan's new appearance though, so there may be hope for Alistair.

I'm waiting for the uber edition. I hope it's 100 dollars. Plus I want the Strategy guide book. I buy from amazon. I'm not sure If my PC will run DAI so might have to get a new computer at the end of the year. So I could be playing a few month later than everybody else.

Whoops the Collector Edition is way too expensive for me at 170.00 dollars. I'm not really interested in it anyways.

Thats not what they called uber edition yet, is it? But yeah 170 is a bit steep specially after my temporary insanity.

That's INSANE for a video game. I'd spend that on a lot of things as the money isn't an issue for me. It's not even a concern actually. But for a game, even for DAO which is my favorite of the series, I would never pay that for it. I wonder how many people will actually go for that?

I prefer getting my games through steam. It's so much easier really. If you need to redownload it's no muss, no fuss. Just the way I like it and with mods, you know that will happen at some point though with the new engine there won't be any mods, which makes the price tag even more of a joke.

$170!?!  Yeah, I'll pass on that.  From the looks of it, the Uber Edition just comes with a bunch of crap.  For that price tag, it should also include a DLC pass (like Borderlands 2).  Doubtful, though.

You ain't kidding! That is the cost of 3 video games (roughly). Or a more than half of my brand new 32" tv for my bedroom. A little less than half of a brand new tivo. I can think of so many other things that would be so much more use than a video game with a bunch of junk thrown in it that you would probably never use.

I think I paid $19.99 for DAO. I like to get games cheaper than the $60 they offer them at because sometimes you just don't like them. Skyrim is the only one so far I feel that is well worth the $60. I have two versions. PC and xbox. I bought a PC to play it on after seeing the mods and wanting to mod it. Now I buy all PC games and never use xbox unless I feel nostalgic and do a run of ME series. I think $20 is fair for DAO as it is several years old but if I got it the second year it was out I'd have paid $40. Newness gives it more value in my book but I never buy brand new games anymore as I like to be able to look up all the things like side quests and stuff. New games don't have that. I'd rather not buy a book for it as it's killing a tree for something that will be online soon enough.

I don't know, I feel like they are just taking advantage of what they feel is a cash cow, and considering how DA2 to me was a step away from the awesomeness of DAO, that makes me less willing to spend the money on it. I'd rather spend it on pretty much anything else.

Was this really true that dai is totally unmoddable ( is unmoddable even a word?) They said that for da2 too but the modding community seemed to have found a way.

Was this really true that dai is totally unmoddable ( is unmoddable even a word?) They said that for da2 too but the modding community seemed to have found a way.

The engine they are using, frostbite, IIRC, is known for resistance to mods. They could develop mod tools for it but that would take time and money which I'm sure they don't want to spend for around one third of the market share that even then a large portion of that third would never use them.

Getting a gaming rig for DAI really would be a waste. Heck, if you have an xbox or ps whatever you'd be better off to just go with that and save the money on the computer, though you might still be able to use console commands but even that is very limited as there is not a lot you can do with console commands when much of it is so not straight forward like skyrim. Even the item codes are so ridiculous it's unreal. Best you could do would be just a handful of commands that are basically cheats. Now cheats can be fun but really, most of the best mods make the game look better and expand on things like with DAO for relationships and whatnot. I know the mods I love the most for DAO are the IRS alistair one and the character creator stuff, the armors, the love relationship ones for zev, appearance mods for companions to make them look how I prefer.... I'm sure cheat mods will be available on some level as there usually are, but the best mods will not be happening for DAI and they are the ones that allow for greater immersion and making the game more suitable to your personal taste.

Here's a thread with some discussion on it. Likely no modding. One of the major reasons I have zero interest in DAI aside from the fact that based on DA2, I probably won't like it much if it's even anything like that and not like DAO.

I think unmoddable could be a new word. We could make it a word. Modding is a word. Moddable is a word, isn't it? Why not unmoddable?

That link just made me feel all sort of stupid for buying 2 new pcs. Cant cancel them either as they are custom made. Well my fault for being stupid and not read up on the new engine first. Here is hoping they got it all perfect the first time around. It deffo detered me from even contemplating buying the uber edition. Maybe buy special edition second hand.

Well, if you play other games, it won't be a loss. It's never stupid to get a new rig if you feel it's time. It's a great investment if you are still playing DAO and if you play something like skyrim (not sure if you do). It will make for better gaming with those games.

I used an average PC for skyrim at first and then bought my gaming rig specifically for it. Honestly, that probably wasn't the brightest thing to do by some people's standards, but I got a good 900 more hours out of it, though at least 100 are from making mods and testing them. That's a lot of use and enjoyment. If you get part of that out of playing DAO on the computers, then it's worth it. You'll likely have better performance than you do with the current one, and there are probably other games in the future you might enjoy more as well, just not so much with DAI for modding, but it will run smoothly or smoother than it would on an older rig. So again, that is not really like it's a total loss. It's just that it won't be as beneficial as it would if we could mod.

I think someone from BW did say they haven't eliminated the idea of a toolset or something like it but in the same breath that it takes time and implied it wasn't likely to happen but the possibility of it happening wasn't a priority which seems to be how BW is on modding in general, which is a shame because modding would give them a chance to compete with skyrim in terms of allowing gamers more freedom and creativity.

As for which edition you get of DAI, I'd say it would be an utter waste to spend more on the game than it's really worth. Your plan sounds like a good one. Though I'm not sure if it's download or boxed. If it's boxed you could buy it used but I thought for PCs they had locked us into getting it through them which means not cheap.

I just tried the ser gilmore mod out of curiosity.... all I can say is I have so much more appreciation for the alistair romance (and zevran's as well though alistair is generally my go to). And of course much appreciation for how well it is done, the IRS mod and Steve Valentine's VO. A talented voice actor makes it all so much better... well that and well written scripts.

The voice actor for Ser Gilmore in the Awakening mod is so much better, IMO (example).  I tried the romance into Awakening and was pleasantly surprised.  Still, it's a rather remarkable mod when you consider all the work that must have been put into it, though I agree on the VA in Origins.  Some of the scenes were a little awkward.

I have the Ser Gilmore mod, but I only run it with my Cousland now.  Just fits better and adds to the story of the Human Noble.  I found, while a bit 'fanficish' in dialogue, the mod is very well done (consider, this is a person who did it on their own free time and out of a love of the character) and is one of my favorite mods.  He starts with a sword and shield but I always go 2hander on him, set up a few tactics and watch him pulverize everything in sight.

I only had a couple issues with the encounter with Howe--his dialogue overrides the Cousland's there, no option to make him shut up--and at the end of the battle against the archdemon, if he was in my party, my game would crash every time.  I had to disable the mod, load up the Post Coronation chamber and continue from there.  In the mod's defense, I run quite a few mods, and something else may have conflicted, though for the life of me, I don't know what.  I don't run a lot of 'game changing' mods, just a lot of cosmetic ones.

I give them a lot of credit for putting it together, but I found it kind of confusing. I got his approval up really high and did it a bit at a time and felt like I never got to romance until certain things were triggered but there seemed to be several. So I kept thinking the mod must be broken.

And of course, me being the critic I am, I found there was way to much detail at least for the HN background romance. Nobody really talks like that at least not on so many memories. I think an editor to tweak the dialogue would have served them well because it was kind of weird having him tell me all these detailed stories of things I did with him. One would make sense, but all of the felt kind or weird. But I can appreciate the effort they put into it. It's pretty well done. The dialogue and choices though were sort of weird, especially the ones where you try to trigger the romance. You can tell it wasn't written by someone who actually knows writing especially how to write dialogue. That sort of threw me out of immersion A LOT.

Looks like the awakening one is a bit better though.
