I have the Ser Gilmore mod, but I only run it with my Cousland now. Just fits better and adds to the story of the Human Noble. I found, while a bit 'fanficish' in dialogue, the mod is very well done (consider, this is a person who did it on their own free time and out of a love of the character) and is one of my favorite mods. He starts with a sword and shield but I always go 2hander on him, set up a few tactics and watch him pulverize everything in sight.
I only had a couple issues with the encounter with Howe--his dialogue overrides the Cousland's there, no option to make him shut up--and at the end of the battle against the archdemon, if he was in my party, my game would crash every time. I had to disable the mod, load up the Post Coronation chamber and continue from there. In the mod's defense, I run quite a few mods, and something else may have conflicted, though for the life of me, I don't know what. I don't run a lot of 'game changing' mods, just a lot of cosmetic ones.
Yes, the fanficish part was what got me. I wanted to try it and am glad I did. I really appreciate the work the person did on it for such a great character. The character feels VERY well done. It's the actual dialogue that is pretty bad at certain points. Most specifically anything relating to past events with the cousland if you run a romance history. Nobody really talks like that. Maybe for a sentence or two but not so often and in so much detail. Less detail would make sense. But the details for what happens at the castle were appropriate. The actor for that part was a bit meh but the dialogue there was pretty good. A little too involved but basically well done and fitting. For a mod, it's pretty impressive. I will say that. Very impressive actually. I think getting an actual actor would have served this mod very well (if the creator knew anyone who had acted and could read lines well enough so it never sounds like he's reading them) and tweaking the dialogue to seem more like what someone would really say... (but in all fairness, dialogue is very hard to master, often the hardest thing in writing because it's very different from any other kind of writing... people talk much differently than they write. Less words. Less details. More on point. Often even brief is the best way to go.... the more the character says the bigger the chance you have of screwing it up - that why they call them monologues, but again, it really is something that takes some practice. So really, I can't hold that against the modder. It was an impressive attempt and for someone who probably has never done this, a damn good one).
