First of all - send Alistair to Highever? Is my Cousland fem not slutty enough? Gilmore and Alistair together in the same castle? Hmmm. . . Which one would Dad chuck off the top of the tower first?
Xetykins - what is Alistair's princess stabbity convo? Is stabbity even a word?

Lol the princess stabbity line is said in regards to Leliana. If you refuse her recruitment to your cause when you are in the tavern in Lothering, she will be waiting for you near the road by Bodahn and Sandal. Alistair will say it in one of the dialogue options then. LOL not sure stabbity is a word, but it's hilarious hearing Steve say it.
OMG, Mark Darrah almost certainly confirmed that Alistair is Fiona's son on the Raptr Q&A just now:
travisfields16 minutes agoOk so dragon age 1 was my favorite out of the 2 games. I liked the fighting stile better on da2. Ive beaten the first game with every charicter type. My fav was my dalish elf named turrin. In one of the endings i chose to breed my elf with morgan. Will their sons look half elf? And are you planning on bringing back race for charicter selection in the future games? Because honestley that was my favorite thing about dao
BioWareDAIElite in Dragon Age II2 minutes agoThere are no half elves in DA. The Human side always dominates the appearance. Hence Alistair - Mark
I still think that Goldanna story was complete made up - to disguise Alistairs real mother. I sit in the FIona camp since I heard of it, but it's good to finally hear some sort of confirmation

Annnnndddddd.... someone on the Talk page for Alistair's entry on the DA WIki sez Fiona is confirmed as Alistair's mother (by Mike Laidlaw): https://twitter.com/...584356337487872. (I cannae find what he is responding to... is Twitter not the most confusing and useless thing ever? /unpopular rhetorical question)

Mark Darrah was answering a question about half-elves on the Raptr Q & A that's happening right now. I posted the original question and Mark's answer in this thread already; check out http://forum.bioware...uee/?p=16905162

Yes. Got that.
I'm talking about the Mike Laidlaw Twitter reply referenced on the Wiki. *wonders why everyone here assumes I'm stupid or is that just an internet thing in general? *
Sorry. I don't think you're stupid, and I missed your comment about my earlier post. I was trying to be helpful by answering your question about what he was responding to, but now that you have responded in this manner, I understand that you were probably asking what exactly Lucy Starita tweeted him about. My bad.
It is indeed true that twitter seems to lose tweets.
I can't believe I'm going to ask this but - why does it seem so important that Alistair's mother is Fiona? I have never even had the idea - hmm is Al maybe half elvish? He acts like it.
I prefer the idea of him just being Al. Maric was an exceptional enough sperm donor. Al has been moulded and manipulated his whole life and still comes out of it as an excellent warden, man and king. HIs aweseomness is his alone.

He is perfectly awesome on his own, it's true. It was mostly an omg moment for me because fans have been arguing about it for a few years now, and the devs have finally put that argument to rest.
Alistair will probably never know that his mother is actually an elven mage, but as a player I enjoy the idea that someone with elf blood and mage blood - in other words, an absolute pariah within the framework of much of Thedas - is king of my playthrough's Ferelden, and no one will ever be any the wiser. It's a tiny bit subversive, which fits in well with my female Cousland's personality. Of course, she doesn't know who his mother really was, either.
I'm just going to repost what I said in the "Alistair's heritage confirmed" thread in the DAI forum:
My "Canon" City Elf Warden who romanced him and chose not to crown him will be happy to learn that.
Actually, she kind of suspected from the day he told her the story of his conception. The story of the human chamber maid being wooed and dumped by the king just didn't ring true to her. Call it elven intuition, "elf radar," what have you, but my character pretty much suspected the big cover up of the truth of his birth was due to an elven rather than just common human heritage, and I imagine she deliberately spread rumors of his elven heritage to help him get more accepted by her people in the alienage. (And this was long before I ever heard of The Calling or Fiona, so this is not me retro-actively applying meta knowledge to my character.)
If Alistair ever finds out in-universe, I imagine she'll be like: "I KNEW IT!!!"
These tweets made me happy. I just knew that he is fiona' after reading the book. And goldanna and alistair are much too much like oil and water to even be remotely related.
I'm glad that people can breathe again. I haven't read the books and so it's game canon for me.
Faerunner - I don't think that wooing the chambermaid is Maric's style. It seemed to me to be more like 'ah here's a diversion for 5 minutes before I have to appear at the feast.'

I was trying to be diplomatic.
But yeah, the story always rang false for my character.
So... have an interview with David Gaider, Gush Thread.
At around 35:00, he's asked to clarify/explain the Alistair/Fiona backstory 'reveals' last week on Raptr and Twitter, and his response is (very rough transcription because I'm REALLY rusty):
Hmmm. *laughter* Uh, you know, it is weird, because I never actually meant for it to be a thing... some people - I thought the, I thought the book was fairly obvious, and then people were asking and I just never confirmed it and I think the lack of confirmation led people, led people to almost, it was like a conspiracy theory as to "oh oh oh maybe it's this maybe it's this". Until finally it became such that's not sure (?) I even wanted to discuss it to be honest. Um, the thing is... it, uh, how do I explain this? Uh, it comes up in the game and I will leave it at that. I don't really want to get into it before that, because like I said, it comes up in the game. That will say everything about it that I need to say.

I was going to change my "canon" Warden from being one who romanced Alistair and let him remain with the Grey Warden, to one who romanced someone else and crowned him King of Ferelden. That way I could have the best possible CE outcome to load into DAI. (Crowning Anora turns out not to be great for the city elves since only Alistair gives the hahren a seat in the Landsmeet and Anora cracks down on the alienage unless someone takes the throne with her.)
After learning this, I'm not so sure. I'm used to thinking of Alistair as my Warden's love interest, so when his parentage comes up in DAI, I know I'm going to be thinking in terms of, "Yeah, the love of his life, my City Elf Warden... Oh, that's right, I didn't romance him this save." It's going to be awkward.
Here's the thing... It's possible Fiona/Alistair won't come up in DAI if Alistair is king, I think. Fiona didn't want her son to have trouble because of his parentage, so she might not say anything about it in a King Alistair playthrough. The Landsmeet would not be impressed if they found out their king has an elven mother.
But Warden Alistair could have run into Fiona fairly easily since she was being held at Weisshaupt by the Grey Wardens for many years, (I think they must have been studying her to try to figure out how to reverse the taint) at least until she got more involved with the Mages.
It's also possible that Fiona/Alistair will come up no matter what the choices you load into DA Keep are. I'm looking forward to finding out in game how things play out.
