This is what I think, they just used her mother to fabricate the story and she really did die in childbirth along with her baby. I doubt they would have even told her mother the plan and just used her after she died. Telling Goldanna the baby died was probably not only the truth but it also served their purpose, cause if she believed the baby was alive and that it was really the king's, they wouldn't have been able to keep Alistair secret, because she would have blabbed about it to anybody who would listen or used it to extort more money out of them. 

But at the same time re-enforcing the story as they knew Alistair would probably go searching for her at some point.

Well - very disappointed that there is no Warden specific dialogue for warden Alistair atop Fort Drakon when you do the Warden Commander ending....

 

For anyone that might pop into the thread that hasn't done this ending yet, (or only done it with a warden Alistair), if you refuse the ritual and take him to kill the Arch-demon, make sure you make him King first, because I found the additional dialogue you get very interesting and very poignant.

I just noticed the Alistair thread dropped to the second page.  Can't have that can we.  Uh,  Any character in DAI that's like Alistair?  I think maybe Cassandra will be Alistair.  But will there be a guy to be friends with?  Would you be stuck with Varric again if you want a friend?

Stuck?  Hardly. Varric was one of the few things I really liked about DA2.  I'm a bit nervous how they will present him in Inquisition.  Bioware's record on 'returning companions' is zero for zero as far as I'm concerned.  Hated Oghren's rewrite as a deadbeat parent in addition to being a worthless drunk.  And Anders/Justice 2.0 sucked majorly. 

 

Hoping Varric doesn't suffer from a similar 'upgrade' in personality like those two did.

I agree with Sylvanaerie. Although Varric was hardly a virgin, for snark and humor he was your go-to guy. Varric may be a bit subdued at first, but from what little we've gotten to see of him in the trailers, it appears the old Varric will come shining through. "Be careful out there, it's raining demons!"

Well if you like a warrior partner Alistairs a lot better choice.   May Iron Bull will be but I doubt it.

We really don't know much about Blackwall yet. To me he seems pretty serious minded, but I could be wrong. Alistair was a great tank and I loved his jokes and innocence. I don't think we'll get another character quite like that.

On the surface they do.  Both are blonde, both have a snarky sense of humor.  Anders is from the Anderfels.  He can't be Maric's son unless they want to further handwave/retcon his story and make him so.  Considering they do that to make whatever story they're telling fit better, I don't think about it overmuch.  Gives me a headache.

I imagine getting my head around a retconned Anders would be a doddle by comparison to my failure to ingest Alistair's parentage change. Perhaps it will become possible with practice.

No.  

 

Five minutes into that I'd be bored to tears.  Alistair was fantastic, but having to actually just walk around doing what amounts to domestic duties with him speaking and my mute warden responding in text would make me scratch my head and wonder wtf I spent 5 dollars on it.  Besides, I run with Cmess' IRS:Alistair mod which fixes a lot of broken dialogues with him and adds a few scenes to the romance to enhance the experience.  That's enough for me.

 

More dialogue from Steve Valentine would be awesome, but I'm content with what content is already present in game.

Will Alistair performed the dark ritual with Morrigan if he is not-hardened and in love with you (as the PC)?

 

if he does, it seems so out-of-character especially if he is not-hardened.
