Buuut I like Alistair too much to do that. The epilogue really shows how much it damages your friendship/romance with him. Loghain's death is the main factor that determines whether Alistair will be the one to deliver the eulogy at your funeral or a speech at the celebration ceremony.

You know, I wish I could spare Loghain. I really do. While he barely seems remorseful in Origins, DAI seems like the perfect time for him to atone for his crimes properly. Ten years have passed and he finally regrets everything he's done.

Alistair's a big boy. ![]()
But it makes sense. I'm not exactly the biggest Alistair fan to begin with. I don't hate him, mind you... I just feel freed up about his options more.

Alistair says it in one of the Skyhold convos. I don't remember the exact line though.
I seem to recall getting something along those lines on my King Cousland import. I assumed since my boy was besties with Alistair, that it had been something Anora did. Considering her grip on the rule was shaky at best with traditionalists like Eamon around, booting Alistair from Ferelden kind of makes sense. Beats having him killed while Gawain's back was turned. That would have gone too far. I considered it the least of the awful things Anora could have done to him.

Well, he was treated like a mangy stray dog his whole life, and the only people who treated him like family were betrayed and left to die by Loghain, so I think he has every reason not to jump to forgive the man who killed the closest thing he had to a family.
Imagine if Alistair had jumped in and prevented Cousland from killing Howe because "he's useful to stopping the Blight," or had prevented the City Elf from also killing Howe (the man who led a purge against their people) or Loghain (who sold their family into slavery) for the same reason. Most players would **** bricks if he'd done that to them, but since they're the PC and he's the NPC, he needs to shut up and happily accept whatever they feel like doing whenever they feel like doing it.

Yes it's called a video game. That's typically how they work. Considering you are the only thing real about it.

So you want Alistair to be a dog? Basically, follow any of your instructions and love you no matter what you do?
Nah, i want a video game with characters like Carver. Who are against what you do, that's what makes a good video game, is good characters (Or in Bioware's case it is)

He had it rough,Yes. As many others did, i don't define him by that and it wasn't that bad he himself mentions it during early conversations, to some extent he was lucky, i told him that he considered it and in someway accepted it and changed his tune.
But as you said what Loghain did-especially- regarding Duncan was the final straw to Alistair for Duncan was his Obi Wan Kenobi and you got to be inclined to that sort of relationship "the mentor and his protege". Hell, my HOF was developing such a thing with the guy. But no, it was flourishing for both of them, then there was BAAAAM,BAAAAM,BAAAAM. Black-screen he's dead, Bioware were like "BURN IT ALL"

*Shakes fist at bioware*
Sorries, got carried away!
Seeing this is Alistair's dwelling, it's fitting that i pay tribute to his mentor. This is for you Duncan a father to Alistair, a savior to HOF, may you find pace and comfort or return in the next sequel which would be pretty awesome.

So, even if you harden Alistair and have him married to Anora we still don't get to keep both him and Loghain in your party. Is that correct?
Yup. There just isn't room for Alistair and Loghain in the same camp.

Aye. There were signs that in early development you could keep both of them, but was scraped off.

Originally you were supposed to be able to get Loghain a lot earlier.

Probably in Denerim right after your first visit to Redcliffe. i think it's why Morrigan suggested going right after him first before using any of your treaties. Leftover from an earlier iteration of the game.
