PRINCE ALI, FABULOUS HE, ALISTAIR THEEEEIRIN!
It saddens me that Alistair's bromance isn't as safe as his romance. It will be damaged in one way or another. I mean, when you meet him again in DAI.
These are the different outcomes for your friendship:
a) Survive through DR ====> He says the Warden is walking a dark path and doesn't believe the latter would be willing to help.
b.) US =====> Everything is fine between you two... except that you're dead.
c) Redeemer ending for Loghain ====> I suppose Alistair won't have anything bad to say about the Warden in Inquisition, but he seemed somewhat grumpy about it in the celebration ceremony after the final battle in Denerim.
d) Full disaster, drunk Alistair.
Poor Alistair. He's just get overshadowed by the non romanced Warden (he hates King Consort Cousland; too)
It's what he gets for letting himself play second-string.

Just thought I would put this link in here because I love Dahlialynn's work. Just heartsqueezing stuff

I've watched all of Dahlialynn's Dragon Age stuff and love it.
How do you guys interpret the line "He walks a dark path"? Does it mean that Alistair's friendship with the Warden is over because he disapproves of the Dark Ritual?
I've recently tried asking Gaider on Twitter, but he ignored me.
Does Alistair only say that if the Warden performs the Dark Ritual with Morrigan or does he also say it if he (Alistair) was the one to do the Dark Ritual with Morrigan?

IIRC, if GW Alistair does the DR he then laments that he got overshadowed by the HoF.
(Haven't played DAI yet, but this is what I've heard from folks who have)

Only if the male Warden did it. Romanced Alistair is never upset.

No... If a non-romanced HoF agreed to the DR, I think what you might have heard was that Alistair laments that the HoF has fallen down a "dark" and/or "shadowed path."
I think that's more likely what you heard. I know Alistair laments the dark path he thinks the HoF has taken to agree to such obviously dark magic. (Unless he's romanced, in which case he remembers her fondly.)

They are wrong.

In that case, I stand corrected. And thank you both for pointing that out.

Hey, no problem. "Word of mouth" is like a game of telephone; details get lost and changed in transaction. =)
(I haven't actually experienced this conversation myself, since my DR Warden romanced Alistair, so I was shocked to hear he did have such strong opinions about any non-romanced Warden who agreed to the ritual.)
Well, my canon worldstate has Al doing the DR and then marrying Anora, so I may not have to worry about encountering this in-game. (non-romanced male Warden)

This bummed me out because it features the work she did for BGR, a fantastic idea now dead in the water it seems. ![]()
The only way for both Alistair and the male Warden to survive is to do the DR. The other alternative is sacrificing Loghain, but that involves recruiting him which is a big deal breaker.
I'm sure that his opinion isn't any different as king, but at least you won't hear about it.
That said, I've made up my mind about this. GW Alistair seems like the right choice.
Meh it saddened me to see the breach between my King Cousland and GW Alistair, but that's how it goes. Sometimes I go for a little 'not quite so perfect' story ending. Gawain's was one of them. He also burned Amaranthine to the ground too. And kept Leliana for a mistress. And somewhere out there, Morrigan is raising his only son, who will be quite possibly the last Cousland.

Hopefully Fergus can happily remarry and have a few kids to carry on the Cousland line. ![]()

In DAI if the female Cousland lived and went to find a cure to the Calling, her absence is putting a huge strain on King Alistair, partly because he misses her, partly because he's used to her help running the kingdom, and partly because the first two were exacerbated by the lack of an heir. Ferelden's heading into another succession crisis.
