I don't mind Leliana and Wynne, but Shale is very much a different case than any other companions. Each companion that joined the warden to fight against the blight (expect Shale) did that without any term of condition,Shale on the other hand made clear from the start that her help was to seek answer to discover her own past.
It did!? from what I remember it tagged along for the same purpose of everyone else, it must had seemed a bright idea back then..stretching its legs, stepping on some feathered fiend pigeons.
Even without a deal it got what it wanted as I still satisfy its desires. Again killing Caridin is both convenient and adequate for my needs.

Anyway. To stay on-topic. It came to my mind that bioware missed a great opportunity -not featuring Alistair pull off some magic tricks . I mean he already got Steve Valentine written all over him, why not have him shuffle some cards as a supplemental to his characteristic? Comes to my mind Carroll at the circle as an opportunity, the rose gift - he could've displayed it in a Zap! Magic time! fashion
.
Now am imagining a parallel drunken Alistair scenario in which he harasses the bar regulars with crappy card tricks
..........Aaaand i need it now, Biovar make it happen.

That would make so very sad to see if I ever saw that; Drunken Alistair in general makes me sad.
Yeah. I never had him be anything but king and my roommate made him warden, but I checked the drunken Alistair on Youtube.
But my point was to make him have that "taaa daaa" moment given that he's voiced by...........ehh. nvm

Well wouldn't it be even better if he was the King and doing crappy magic tricks? Then we don't have to be sad by drunken Alistair AND we can have the magic tricks!
To all those people that keep saying "Alistair married to Anora is the best ending". (At 0:40)
(snip)
One reason I don't like hitching them up. However, I've always said it sucks on a personal level. I've rarely seen anyone who did this who gave two hoots and a holler about his personal feelings. Thing is, he's already pissed at that particular warden because Loghain wasn't executed at the Landsmeet. That's why he's so upset, not because of Anora. His reaction to the wedding is quite different if Loghain is dead, although I know he's not too tickled about it regardless. It's more of a sarcastic, tongue in cheek kind of manner and though I know he isn't happy about it, he's not hostile as long as her father is dead.

I know that Alistair's opinion on this doesn't really change because the first he says when you propose the idea is: "I think I'm gonna need a drink... or ten."
Yes, but that video has him practically screaming at the warden. If you kill Loghain, he's still not happy at the prospect of marrying her, but he covers that with his typical sarcastic humor, he doesn't scream in anger/hostility at the warden. There's a world of difference in circumstances there. One solution kills the friendship, the other just strains it.
And I'm not arguing that it doesn't suck on a personal level for them both. Can't be easy for him to have to be with someone who reminds him of Loghain every day. And for her, he looks and acts so much like Cailan, it's like her husband never died. Fortunately for her, if you harden him, at least she seems to get along better with him (in epilogues), but during the game she has as little respect for him as she did for her late husband.
For Ferelden it's better than one or the other solo since their rule style complements each other, and keeping Anora on the throne and marrying her to the Theirin blood line ensures a level of stability no other combo presents. But I'd still rather stick rusty pins in my eyes than watch that coronation scene. Did it once, won't ever do it again.
I completed this game last week, and while I romanced Morrigan, I have to say that Alistair and Morrigan were my two favorite characters. Wynne was pretty great too, but those two stuck out the most for me. Their banter was great, and Alistair felt like a really well written character. And I genuinely thought he was funny. For some reason, one of my favorite interactions with him is when I asked him if he had ever had sex before. His evading jokes were funny, but I appreciated his honesty. I was half expecting him to act like he was some kind of play boy. It made him feel more genuine to me. But yeah, he felt like a good friend. I almost felt bad not taking him on the final battle, but he just wasn't able to tank damage as well as Sten or Shale sadly.
On a side note, I am actually a bit disappointed that he's not going to appear in Awakening as I'm playing through that right now.

I thought Alistair was way better tank because he can use armor and shields and swords and stuff.

You gotta be kidding me? Sten's no tank, he's a glass cannon. 2HS may be damage heavy, but tank it isn't by a long shot, and slower than methuselah's grandmother. Not to mention, Alistair is capable of having 2 specializations, Sten gets only one. Alistair comes started out with a tank build and you get him at level 4 or thereabouts depending on your level at Ostagar Are you sure you built him for tanking as he leveled, because his effectiveness kind of hinges on what the player does with his talents. I play on Casual/Normal but I had no issues with him tanking at all, tossing occasional heals.
I've never tanked with Shale at all, so I can't speak for her and I know she gets some unique, Shale-only skills, but Sten is so squishy, I can't see him being an effective tank. Maybe a dps based character who does enough damage before things hit him. Maybe. But a tank who takes damage and shrugs it off, no. What little I did use him he went down quickly in fights. As I said, I only played on Casual/Normal mode, I can only imagine how hard it would be trying to keep him up in Hard/Nightmare.
He is either Warden with my Amell or King with my Cousland

You know you're playing too much Dragon Age when you're watching The Lion King and remember Alistair at this moment:
"He's holding back, he's hiding. But what I can't decide.
Why won't he be the king I know he is? The king I see inside."
Lol! Great catch!

to paraphrase - too much DAO is never enough. In fact too much Alistair is never enough. He's everywhere.
I will never force Anora to marry with the brother of her ex husband it just scream wrong.Oh Alistair
