So I have played DAO three times now. And each time I played the game, Alistair becomes more and more awesome. At first I was just nice to him because I didn't want disapproval points. But after I played the second time, I knew how the approval system worked so I chose the more sarcastic and joking options. And man does Alistair become like ten times more awesome. I loved Garrus as a bro in ME, but Alistair beats him hands down. His interactions are so much more natural and he's genuinely funny and likable.

I even watched the romance scenes and I'd say they are brilliant. And Alistair is much deeper than Garrus and has many more possibilities for character growth at the end of Origins.

I think Alistair is the most a-dorkable, sweet, innocent and charming character in DA; I love the shy KISA to bits. It has nothing to do with his looks but his good humour in a very bad situation that won my HoF's heart. The second runner up is Cullen for me but he's got that intense serious thing going on; two extremes of the perfect KISA.

I think you're going to hate me but I can't stand Cullen. xD

Cullen was my first LI in Inquisition and I couldn't wipe the stupid grin off my face the entire time :D. And I couldn't have been the only one to try and follow him after chasing him down the hallway at the Circle when he runs away from your lady mage in Origins.

And I completely agree about Alistair. His personality just sweeps me off my feet. I can't stop you tube stalking him for sweet videos lol

I supported the Templar's. Better storyline in DAI. But in DAO; yes, your right. Alongside DA2. He was a d*** back than.

*hides from the mage fans*

I always support the mages in every Inquisition play through. I really feel they get the raw end of the deal. That said, I still love Cullen. Its amazing to see how far his character has grown since Origins. More likable now haha

Luckily Inquisition was my first DA game and Cullen wasn't so bad. I would have hated him to death otherwise xD
In DAO I can understand why he didn't like mages but in DA2 he is very easy to hate.

I don't really see what the issue is. Garrus is relatively inconsequential in the series until ME3. Sure he's cool and he's a fun character. But in the grand scheme of things, he doesn't really matter as much as Alistair does. And I think Alistair goes through far more interesting development as well.

And dunno what Kaiden has anything to do with it, but I think he's one of the best characters in the ME series.

Because Kaidan is like the ME Alistair (or at least to me he is!)

I think both Alistair and Kaiden are pretty interesting even non romanced. I'm new to both series and from what I understand there were lots of heated debates about Alistair and Kaiden. Personally I like them both for different reasons. Alistair is genuinely funny and extremely well written in my book. And I like Kaiden because he's calm and normal. Not everyone has to be a cool space alien to be interesting. Plus, I liked his back story in ME1 and I felt he grows quite a bit in ME3. And his voice actor is very good and brings the character to life.

If I play femshep he is my romance because I feel its the most natural and well written for her. I haven't played as a female Warden in DAO, nor do I intend to. I honestly cannot relate to a female character in DAO at all. But I looked up Alistair's romance and its also very good. I like Garrus, but I seriously think he's extremely over-rated. As blasphemous as this may sound, I think Kaiden is a better character.

During Here Lies the Abyss, Alistair mentions the events that took place in the graphic novels even as a Warden.

That indicates that it is canon no matter what, but harder to explain. In the story, their expedition is funded by King Alistair's resources. How do they get the money if he stayed a Grey Warden?

And drunk Alistair writes off the whole thing.

As Warden Alistair perhaps he got the funds from Arl Eamon or Teagan? Or the HoF and fellow wardens helped?

As much as I like Alistair, I don't understand why Sten calls him basalit-an in these novels.

He is the opposite of the kind of person Sten approves of.

So was the Warden when they first met him, but he warmed up to them.

It's possible for one to change their opinions of someone, or grow to respect someone despite being the kind of person they typically dislike.
