I just can't get my DE right.  Does anyone else spend hours and hours creating characters?  I spend so much time fiddling with their faces and hair, and then I get them into the game and hate them ... so I delete and start all over again.

I took forever with my mage (current avatar). The funny thing is that while she's not quite what I was going for in the avatar, she is just about exactly the way I want her in-game, which makes me really happy except that I'm playing on the PS3 so I have no screenshots to share. She really is quite amazing-looking.

My CE's tattoo is a bit much in-game and I might have toned the intensity down a bit had I known. In her avatar it looks all smoky and kind of diffuse, like the shadows of flames going up her face. In game it's a big bold swath of brown. Not bad, but not quite the effect I was looking for. Whereas my mage's tattoos being much bolder in-game is exactly what I wanted --they're the same flaming red/orange as her hair, lips (these slightly subdued but not much) and eyeshadow. These are contrasted with a shocking, almost translucently pale complexion and enormous aquamarine eyes. I think she's fierce. But yes, it took forever to get there and I was quite prepared to start her over if I didn't like her in-game appearance.

Sometimes the pranks and gifts that do the -/+ 50's are bugged and dont trigger those convos.

Leave camp and then come back. That should trigger it (unless someone else has something to say to you).

I did, still nothing. I reloaded, and dropped his approval with the console even.

Well, the way I plan to play my mage, I might end up experiencing that Alistair. She'll probably have to threaten the Reverend Mother in Lothering for Sten's key and I expect she'll kill Connor, will pour blood into Andraste's ashes and let the werewolves kill the Elves in the Brecilian Forest. Plus picking up Zevran and Shale will earn her smaller disapprovals if she has Alistair in her party. Hate speech? Bring it.

Aha there it is, I got it. and "with grey wardens like you, who needs darkspawn!" almost killed me. I kinda wanted it EARLY because she was so "pshhh whatever" in Lothering. She threatened the revered mother, didn't help anyone except Sten, and only let Leliana come along because she needed the extra hands. So I thought post lothering camp would be  a good time for him to grab her by the arm and give her his speech.

Now the shoe is on the other foot. She realizes she's been a complete pain in the rear, and will try to be a little more gentle, and eventually get back into his good graces. And...his tent, of course.

Eh, that's not necessary. Things that really pee him off include:



Saying Duncan deserved what he got.

Sacrificing Isolde (blood magic), then when he says what will Eamon say, suggest not waking Eamon up at all.



You'll get huge approval losses on both. Then smaller ones recruiting Zev and Shale, and releasing Jowan from the dungeon. Siding with the unscrupulous merchant in Lothering also gives approval loss. Also be sure to select the rudest options if he disagrees with anything, and don't give him his action figures.



I've had -100 without resorting to desecrating the ashes or siding with the wolves. I was careful not to take him into situations where he'd gain approval, however.



Just be aware you'll lose out on a lot of Alistair conversations if his approval drops too low, including the one where he tells you you have 30 years to live.

And re: Alistair's nipple?  Could be.  I've got another screenshot where that same nipple is sparkling.

When you get that low in approval with him, does he simply stop talking to you?  I also want my DE to start out not getting along with him at all, and then he starts growing on her.   Seems to be a common DE pattern.  Will I have to re-install the Feastday gifts to get him talking again?

Thanks for the tips But, my intent in playing this mage in this way is not just to tick Alistair off. She'll defile the Ashes because she's gotten what she needs out of the undefiled Ashes and can gain some extra Warrior knowledge for Sten by using the dragon's blood. She'll wind up threatening the Reverend Mother because she wants Sten's key and chances are she doesn't have a high enough Persuasion/Cunning score to talk her into giving it up. She'll probably kill Connor because it's the fastest way to get rid of the demon. Etc. All of these actions will end up ticking off Alistair and lowering his approval, but she won't be bothered either way. Same thing when she recruits Loghain into the Grey Wardens. She'd have liked Alistair to stay because three Grey Wardens in her party are better than two, but if he's going to get pissy and leave, oh well.
