Ok, I am going to attempt to make some progress with in my HNF game with the Ser Gilmore mod this weekend. They were childhood friends but he has really been getting on her nerves since she found him in Lothering. Maybe his new look will help? And why the h*** am able to make a male without a problem but my female humans suck...I hate the toolset!

*snip*

He looks good, Yankee. I never minded the old one EXCEPT for his teeth, which were somehow not quite right in his mouth, on a funny angle or something. Let us know how you fare in the Ser Gilmore adventure. I tried the old version when it first came out, but he annoyed me, and I couldn't get over those teeth, and as I had just gotten Extra Dog Slot, EDS won :)

I waited until it was voiced to try it. I am still very early in and I think the modders did a great job but my HNF is really just feeling he is anoher person that she needs to console and  it really hits too close to home for her. She has lost everything and although she feels for what he went through, she's not over it herself.  She is struggling to be the good daughter of Highever and take care of one of her knight but it's going to push her into bad decisons. I think she is going to end up in his tent on the relationship path out of pity and guilt for not feeling as bad for him as she should. Until of course she cracks and good ole Ali picks up the pieces.

This is what sold me on the Alistair = Fiona's son theory:

"Even though the parting had the air of finality, somehow Maric still couldn't bring himself to feel sad. This didn't feel like an ending.

....... It felt like a beginning."

That just felt so much like a lead-in to the beginning of DA:O.

I played the Gilmore mod almost to Landsmeet.  I thought it was really well-done and the amount of work that went into it was amazing!  But I stopped because he just drove me crazy!  First he criticized my warden's combat abilities.  Then he started complaining if she stood too close to him.  And the last straw was when she thought he was being sweet giving her a bottle of perfume.  But he spoiled it by suggested that she needed it because she  stunk.

Huh, if that's how he acts she's really going to feel sick about sharing his tent when she really doesn't want to.Image IPB

Edit: especially with Alistair catching her eye.

Am I the only one having this weirdness since the patch during the Shale quest? Not only are the plates not supposed to move like that, but the flame is all messed up during the second half of this clip. WTF and no answer in tech support :(

I haven't been there since I downloaded the patch (only just installed for WH). I have a couple of characters that need to collect Shale. I'll let you know what happens.

Remember:

Q: Do we ever meet Fiona's son?
Gaider: Maybe you already have.... *eyebrow waggle*

Totally of that view myself, hence my last two chapters...

cmessaz, I haven't done Stone Prisoner since the patch, but I've got it coming up soon.  That thing with the plates in your video is weird.

The flame is all screwed up. Like just with the plate strangeness I could manage. It took me 5 reloads last night to finally get it, around an hour just moving tiles till it works, because the flame stops going the path it's supposed to. Weird!

Anyway, I think Goldanna needs a slap upside the head. Being poor and having a hard life is no excuse to be an butthead.

I'm pretty sure that theory was shot down, in terms of Hawke being related to Maric and Fiona.

Hawke's mother is in the game, for once and she is an [spoilerrr]
Hawke's dad is a mage. We haven't seen anything about him, but Gaider said Papa Hawke was the one who taught Bethany and mage!Hawke to use magic (they're all apostates).

And considering that BioWare is implementing a system where your family's features (skin color so far, I think) changes to match the Hawke you create, it's kind of very unlikely that they're not your biological family xD

So...Hawke has to be a mage? Or if you choose warrior, for example, it changes to Bethany and their Dad being mages, but not Hawke?

About Alistair's parentage....I'm going to hope that he isn't Fiona's son until it's no longer possible.

I am inclined to agree with errant, not because I hate elves or anything, but because it might lead to trouble for Alistair if his mom was an elf.

Well Rowan was in Denerim. I don't think Maric would have visited Redcliff that often. And I don't doubt that it's possible that the mother lied.

What I am wondering about is how this mother appeared, claimed that she is carrying the king's son and then very conveniently died in childbirth just when Maric and Eamon needed a cover story for Alistair.
Either it's a big and convenient coincidence. Or someone masterminded it. Or the mother was not lying and Alistair is her son.

That's not how I'm picturing it.  When Maric contacted Eamon, there either was a woman who had died in childbirth recently and whose baby had died and they used her as a cover story, or they just hired a wetnurse and told her that story and it became settled truth in everyone's minds.  I imagine that staff came and went, especially young girls who were just sent out to service until they got married, so there would have been enough coming and going to make this plausible.  Probably they intended the baby to be known simply as a common bastard but the part about the king got away from them and entered the gossip.

And apart from my feelings about the lack of effort necessary for Alistair to end up in the situation he does, if he's Fiona's child, I think his rise to the throne makes a better rags to riches story if he truly is the bastard son of a commoner.

I never read the books and am not sure about the whole Alistair/Fiona thing but from what I've heard it could be true. But man if it is, did everybody drop the ball with this poor boy? Send him to Eamon to be a serving maid's bastard and get sent to the chantry when Isolde has a tantrum? They couldn't have found a couple with no children to give him to? Somewhere they could quietly watch him? Excuse me while I go load up IRS and leave the boy in a stupor.Image IPB

Yes, they really dropped the ball.

I woke up thinking about this... sad, I know, but I was thinking that it's striking that Alistair mentions nothing about a wetnurse or nanny, like Nathaniel does with Adria.  So there isn't any mother figure at all for him.  Someone must have been kind to him for him to turn out as he did, but I picture that it must have been a succession of women, whoever was free at the time to care for the little tyke.  And it just about kills me to think of a baby that defenseless and alone, and of a mother who could give him up knowing that he would be.  After all, Fiona at least had her father when she was little, and she knew what happened when you didn't have anyone to look out for you anymore.  But I guess that she figured it was still the lesser evil to being an elf woman's child.

BTW you really should read the books!!!

We don't really know the timing on all of this.  Fiona's baby wasn't a newborn.  I don't know how long it takes to travel from Weisshaupt to Denerim, and how long she waited after the baby's birth to start the trip.  Maybe this is why Eamon was chosen.  Maybe they were looking for a good cover story, and Eamon mentioned that a servant at his estate just died in childbirth?

She and Alistair got along decently well from the start...

Well you know I tend to play Dalish as quiet and stoic types.  The template I use is that they are the remnants of Arlathan nobility, so they have an inherent dignity and noblesse beneath the wilder kind of "Woad" facade.

Though I still have to pick the rude replies to Cailan, if only because he seems to like them better and it makes for such a fun dialogue.  :)  It's like with Alistair, the Theirins seem to appreciate smartass women.  LOL

I don't think Fiona thought Alistair was going to grow up defenseless and alone.  I have to imagine she wouldn't be very pleased about that.  She wanted him to grow up normal, and he really, really didn't.Had he just been a commoner living in the stables, fine.  But he knew he was the son of a king.  How the hell is a kid supposed to deal with that.

I agree with the others, somewhere along the way someone really dropped the ball.  Probably more a combination of things leading to one giant clusterf*ck.  Maric probably tried not to know too much, since it would just make it harder to keep his distance.  Eamon certainly went overboard in makign sure Alistair had no ambitions to the throne.  Isolde just made everything worse.

I hope that Fiona is Alistair's real mother for two reasons.  1)  Because then, no matter how badly people screwed up, his parents did actually love him and he wasn't just an unwanted cast-off.  2)  I harbor this belief that in many ways, the WC ending is one that is almost fated to be.  The son of the King of Ferelden and a Grey Warden being the Grey Warden who ends the Fifth Blight before it destroys Ferelden?  That's destiny right there.  Sad, tragic, heart-breaking destiny, mind you, but destiny nonetheless.

Not sure what the PC is wearing, but Sten is wearing Armor of the Sten which you pick up in a chest in the Lothering Chantry.

Based on the bit that was posted, it sounds to me like Fiona is asking Maric to make sure he his happy and cared for and finds a better life. Not dump him with Eamon who tells him whose son he is but that he is not good enough to be part of that life, who then turns and dumps him on the Chantry. I would be interested to know what Fiona would think of all this? Could she have been under the impression that Maric would find a nice quiet family for him?

I'm a little late with this, but on the topic of Goldanna, I was a hater too... until recently. There was a conversation, in this thread I think, not too long ago, where some folks (KoP maybe?) were defending her, and there were some good points made that softened me up a bit. Then I read this story over on Swooping:

http://community.liv...bad/928621.html

Now I feel kind of bad for her, and guilty for all those times I refused to give her money. I'm a sap like that. :)

On a happier topic, I've been playing with the new IRS all morning, and those new kisses are rawr! Amazing work cmess, as always. I loved the sweet little endings for each scene too, particularly this part:

That little smirk he has as he's stepping back made me think, "Who's the man? Yeah, I'm the man."
