He might never have actually seen Alistair or known enough to realize what the time frame was. I could see it working like this: Loghain hears rumors from Redcliffe that there's a boy running around who's the king's bastard. He goes to confront Maric, and Maric basically grunts non-answers at him, from which Loghain presumes that Maric must not have recognized the boy because he was trying to hide him from Rowan. That was the only reason Loghain probably could come up with why Maric would do such a thing. It would have been easier for everyone for Loghain just to believe his false suppositions, so Maric never corrects him, and in Loghain's mind it becomes the truth of what happened.Monica21 wrote...

I have no reason to doubt anything Loghain says. I'm sure that is either what he believed, or that is what actually happened. I can see Maric wanting to acknowledge Alistair, but assuming Fiona is the mother, he did make the promise to her. I just doubt very much that Loghain knew of the Orlesian connection. I think he would've made sure Maric never acknowledged that he had a part-Orlesian bastard son.
This I agree with, but I still think he would have been able to connect the dots enough to be suspicous. And I still believe that if he knew definitively who Alistair's mother was, that he would have used it against him at the Landsmeet. So while he may have suspected, it's something he could never prove. Loghain also has a selfish reason to protect Rowan's memory, considering he loved her more than Maric ever did. (In my opinion.)
And my comment about doubting wasn't directed at you; my apologies if I came off as harsh. I just don't see the need for disbelieving something that's probably true because a character you don't like said it.

I don't doubt him because he's Loghain, but rather because in The Calling you see Maric being cagey and concealing things from him. So everyone's guess that Maric and Loghain were bosom buddies who told each other all was just a facade. Hence why I doubt Loghain knew much about Alistair at all.Monica21 wrote...
I don't know if he knew exactly who Alistair's mother was, but he is smart enough to narrow down any potentials just based on timeframe alone.tuppence95 wrote...
I think Loghain is telling the "truth" as he knew it. Check out the quote I posted from The Calling a couple pages back. Yes, Loghain must've known about Alistair being Maric's bastard. But Maric went to some lengths to keep Fiona's involvement from Loghain. Loghain was practically keeping Maric a prisoner at that time, and Maric had to wait until Loghain was away from the castle before he managed to sneak Fiona and Duncan in. I really doubt that Loghain knew that Alistair's mother was Orlesian. [based on the Fiona - Alistair theory.]
And that doesn't speak to whether Loghain knew that Maric "nearly" acknowledged him. Again, there's no reason to doubt him unless you don't believe it because it's Loghain.

Yep. I figured I'd try it out before we headed into the forest. The romance is triggered but he's only at interested at the moment. Gotta keep it that was til we see what a jerk Zathrien was to his clan.

His charachter had some real depth to it, and showed what hatred can do to people.
Plus the ending where he dies, and cures the curse, mixed with the music and all is just awsome.

As a character maybe. But as a Keeper, to a Dalish warden, he's betrayed his clan, and at least Lyra believes her people to be better than that, she expected betrayal from humans but not a keeper, this person trusted with the care and protection and leadership of an entire clan. His hatred almost destroyed them from within.
How did Alistair end up in this shot? who was in the party. It always seems to be Oghren, for me....Lady Jess wrote...
No matter what I do, I never get a good front view of Alistair in this scene. It's always Sten or someone. I'm thinking Lyra might have actually ran shrieking into his chest after Archie came flying up out of there.

More Dalish love.

I am guilty of always having Alistair in the 2nd slot. I've actually started trying to change that up a bit. Btw nice new avatar yankee!Yankee23 wrote...
I always have Alistair in slot 2 and that's usually the shot I get. I like how it looks like they might be holding hands if you catch it right.

It depends on party placement who is where in the Dead Trenches shots. I think that spot on the ledge is for #2? And #3 will be behind you in the "glare at Archie" shot. You can go back to Orzammar and make a save before going to the Dead Trenches, and experiment with moving party members around. Not that I've done this, of course!

Carys isn't mean at all. A little wary, a little distant, but she doesn't hate shems.
She will, however, be very, very confused about the rose.
