Yay, Yankee, your Mahariel doesn't sound too off from my Kara! She was a little bit panicked in Ostagar too, but she's good at hiding it. Especially because she doesn't want the humans to know she's afraid at all. I always thought that was kind of mean of Duncan to leave a Dalish (or a dwarf or maybe even a mage) alone in a big camp full of humans - I rewrote it just a bit in Kara's story so Duncan didn't seem so insensitive. :-P
Lucky for Alistair he was nice straight off, so Kara decided she could probably trust him, if Duncan trusted him and Marethari trusted Duncan. But that's quite a chain of "if's" so she was wary still.

I think Lyra stomped and huffed the whole way to Ostagar. Possibly even growled a time or ten.

"stupid tamlen <grumble grumble> touching strange mirrors <grumble grumble stomp> no clan <growl> stupid blight<hiss kick rocks in the road> grey warden my foot<grrrr>"

Awww sad panda. I'm probably going to restart Kasha (my only HNF) too. Maybe as a dw warrior this time instead of a rogue. I just wish with the mage origin you could be tied in with a family, like if an elf the Tabris family, or human the couslands or something ya know? I haven't finished an elven mage yet. I'd love to do Dalish Mage with the mod but afraid it would screw WH up.

Yes, it does.  You don't get any dialogue in the elven ruins.  Image IPB

I did the tower mage, and have one I'm already really really attached to. That makes it pretty hard to do another, even an elf.

Yeah, I'm pretty stuck on Esra as my Surana character and don't think I could play another.  I sort of screwed myself with Idun becoming my primary Dalish character, since obviously the mod will mean continuity problems.  Oh well, I had enough fun fooling with her story that it was worth it.

I know what you mean about the bridge at Ostagar!

In past playthroughs, I always paused there and admired the view before moving on to find Alistair.  But when Duncan left Sylphe on that bridge, it was overwhelming.  And that guard at the end of the bridge seemed to expect her to have questions for him.  She managed to learn where she could find Alistair and was alarmed to hear that there were mages in the camp.  Mages mean templars, and she'd rather stay away from them, since she had heard stories about how they see Dalish magic-users.  Ostager felt like a new experience seen through her eyes.

Lyra just needs to finish up Soldier's Peak, then we go wake Eamon up. I can't believe she's almost finished with Origins. I'm gonna miss her. She's taking the GW ending with Alistair, and her boon will be Gwaren. That way they both have a real home, and Alistair I assume would actually be the Teyrn, if not they'll be married (if only in my head) and he'll have the same Authority as her. Giving us not only a home, but a say in the landsmeet, a voice for the dalish, and the wardens. And a pretty powerful one at that. Its also my "ehy" for him not being in Awakening. He'll have to handle Gwaren while I handle Amaranthine. Not too bad being the most powerful Dalish in Ferelden eh? Teyrn, Arlessa, Hero of Ferelden, Commander of the Grey

One of the best things about the Dalish origin, IMO, is the roleplay perspective it gives- encountering human society up close for probably the first time.

And in all that bewilderment, Alistair easily becomes an anchor.  Image IPB

If I do an elf mage, I think she'll actually be blood mage/spirit healer. She'll have learned blood magic to make her stronger, because as an elf she had to CLEARLY be as good as if not better than the humans in the tower to prove herself to not be inferior. Maybe.

Or I'll go back to my Jaina Surana  but less bad choices. I kinda  liked her story actually. It gives me a tie in with the city elves and vaughn in the landsmeet portion. That's always been my problem playing an Elf mage, finding anger at Loghain for the Alienage, because as a tower mage, it's very detached.

Yeah, I have to take back what I originally said about it being shallow. It's got depth you just have to find it, and really absorb yourself into it. I'm very happy with how she's turned out. Even having Alistair lecture her early on worked out really well for her rp. Driving him to the point he yelled at her is probably the only thing that snapped her out of her "i hate the world at large" crap and made her start thinking more about who she'd have to become than who she was in the past, and find a way to mergethe two.

Sula, my first bloodmage, was a Tower mage.  I rp'ed her as learning blood magic first as a way to learn about old elven magic, and later that she was actually Uldred's apprentice and not Irving's.  It was a fun pt, trying to figure out AW and BM.  She was a Zev girl.

I don't have any trouble finding anger about that for any of my PCs!  Simple compassion suffices.

Esra's fun because she's my most devout Andrastian and I like the interal conflicts of an Andrastian elf.  When I replay her game I'm going to try the Divine mod spell lines.  I also consider the King Alistair's elven mistress ending the best, though I realize I'm probably the only DA player who thinks so.  Image IPB

Yay!  I'm really glad that the Dalish origin is getting new respect and attention due to WH.  I hope it carries over into DA2 through new lore stuff, even though we'll have to play a human PC.  *grumble grumble*

Oh not at all. I like that ending on any class really. As a matter of fact if I do return to Jaina she'll be his elf mage consort and really stick a thumb in the eye of the chantry...lol! I always feel detached from the Alienage on on my mages. And the whole tortured Noble thing. It's like a side effect to the tower line. That's why I wish you could have some connection to the origins your race comes from as a mage. Let the elf mage have a connection to the city elves (I'd say Dalish but the circle seemingly leaves them alone pretty much), as a cousin. Let the human mages have a connection to the noble...again, could be a cousin to the Cousland kid. I'll likely play Jaina and use the City Elf storyline in combination with the tower like I started to. Though originally she was planned for Zev...I like my Dwarf/Zev much much better than my CE Zev.

Hmm...That actually made me think of an on-topic question to throw out there. We all like to talk about our favorite origins and endings but... What does everyone think the best ending (and/or with what origin) is for Alistair?  Assume the warden is in a relationship with Alistair but put aside personal preference and only consider what is best for Alistair.

Of course I am going to go with hardened and ruling together with a HNF but I am always interested in all the different variations of opinion around here.

Well we've found out that Hawke's mother is an Amell, so there you go.  Maybe we will come across a Surana family somewhere along the line.

I felt this way about mage origin before, but in multiple pt's got to appreciate the open-endedness since it allows you to create your own backstory for a mage.

I've had the mistress argument too many times to rehash it.  Image IPB  I think hardened and with the woman he loves is the best ending for Alistair regardless of whether king or Warden.  Anything but being heartsick and alone like his father was later in life, though Maric seems to have found his feet again by the end of TC.

Even though I've played my Surana multiple time she still doesn't know her backstory, lol.  My first time through when you have an opportunity say where you came from in the library talking to the other elf , I didn't know the difference so I went with the 'can't remember' option. She has stuck with that answer because I give her a dalish tattoo but I lack the imagination to come up with how that would happen and at such a young age she really doesn't remember much but her life in the tower. City Elf makes more sense but not as interesting considering it's not unusual for city elf mages to be taken by the templars like everyone else. Hmm...maybe I have been playing a dalish all along.Image IPB

My first elf mage was the same. It was my first playthrough so I knew nothing of anything outside the circle as a player. Thats what probably caused my detachment to the other elves and such. By the time I created Caislyn Amell I had the hang of it. yet I still went with human because it was easier. Jaina kinda popped into my head one day, and is still stuck there. I may just play her instead of another city elf. I've played the crap out of rogue, my DCF is a warrior, and I MIGHT make a new HNF warrior, since my first is a rogue, but not sure yet.

I was just thinking the same thing.  After my Dalish, I thought I'd make yet another HNF.  I want to experience cmessaz's new scenes from the beginning and go all the way through to DahliaLynn's wedding.  I thought I'm make her a warrior, since I've had the least experience with that class.  I'm just not sure which type of warrior yet.
