Hmm...That actually made me think of an on-topic question to throw out there. We all like to talk about our favorite origins and endings but... What does everyone think the best ending (and/or with what origin) is for Alistair?  Assume the warden is in a relationship with Alistair but put aside personal preference and only consider what is best for Alistair.

Of course I am going to go with hardened and ruling together with a HNF but I am always interested in all the different variations of opinion around here.

I've had the mistress argument too many times to rehash it.  Image IPB  I think hardened and with the woman he loves is the best ending for Alistair regardless of whether king or Warden.  Anything but being heartsick and alone like his father was later in life, though Maric seems to have found his feet again by the end of TC.

I agree with this 100%. Any ending in which he has his love at his side is equally good for whatever role he is in.  Lyra would actually do the chancellor ending, if I hadn't already done it on Caislyn, instead she's gained some political savvy and will take Gwaren. Chancellor seems to be my mage thing, as Jaina will do it too. I just can't let WYNNE be the advisor, nope nope nope. Plus, that gets Eamon out of the picture too. He can go back to his snotty wife and stay there, and keep his big honker out of Alistair's business. If I make Alistair king as his LI, I stay with him, be it as chancellor or queen.  It's the best for him, though apparently as queen, NOT the best for you...lol

I was just thinking the same thing.  After my Dalish, I thought I'd make yet another HNF.  I want to experience cmessaz's new scenes from the beginning and go all the way through to DahliaLynn's wedding.  I thought I'm make her a warrior, since I've had the least experience with that class.  I'm just not sure which type of warrior yet.

Yeah, I want to see the hugs, and the items. Finally someone made that sword look like it was powerful. Though I don't know what the stats are. I prefer dual wield for my warriors, especially if I always have Alistair with me. two S&S is kinda redundant, and I hate how slow 2h is.  But what I usually end up doing is taking only the good dw talents, skipping a few like whirlwind and cripple or whatever it is, and grab some S&S as well just in case.

Sneaking in an o/t, those following the Game of Thrones HBO special might be interested in HBO's new behind-the-scenes blog including footage from the shoots.  I might actually die from squee.  Can you do that?

This show looks like it's going to be so good!  Thanks for the blog link!

DW warrior is going to be retired for DA2, if that helps you make your decision.  Either you might take it as a last hurrah (and because you won't have a choice but S&S and 2H later on) or else you might want to avoid it in case you like it!

I don't play warrior class, but not being able to make an NPC warrior into a swift killing machine will be sad.  It is so sexy to see Alistair taunt (which he does if my PC is being attacked), get swarmed by a mob, and then mow thorugh them in nothing flat with swords flying.  Awesome.  Terribly sexy.  Image IPB

I've done dual-wield rogues so many times.  I might try something different for my warrior.  I know Alistair with a bow looks really smexy, but I like him as a tank too much.  Has anyone played a archer/warrior?  Otherwise I might go with 2h and make sure Morrigan gets Haste asap.

Well getting rid of DW is just silly! But I'd still play it, my wardens won't be in DA2 so might as well play them how I like them.

to keep mine different, I dual wield daggers on my rogues, and swords (or axes in the case of my DCF) on my warriors. I sometimes try swords with rogues but it always seems so slow after daggers...lol

Two hander's not as bad as all that. My last Cousland girl was a two hander and she was badass. Indomitable is awesome.

Once you get into Awakening, two handers really shine.

This is her looking badass in her dragonbone plate at Landsmeet.

(Sorry, no Alistair there. He was, uh, heading for the docks).

Hell, even Oghren can get me hot and bothered with a little bit of flurry action. DW warriors are just the best. Alistair with Starfang and Maric's Blade, whipping his way through darkspawn like a human blender is, like Addai says, the sexiest.

I have, it's what my current avatar is, actually, archer/warrior/city elf.  It's tough especially in the early stages but now she can take out a main adversary with one shot and she's started doing two handed.

If it wasn't so...fricken...slow I'd have no problem with it. But I also like to wield the cousland swords as a noble origin. I'd likely end up with it, and my personal sword (starfang) at the end. Duncan's is another option, I always march into the landsmeet wearing the Cousland/Duncan sword combo on my HNF, even if it's just for show. And of course Alistair in Cailans armor and Maric's blade if he's going to be king. To me it's a "in your face"  tactic. Remind the nobles who we are, what we've lost at the hands of Loghain.

Yeah, it does seem slow in comparison.  I like axe-dagger for aesthetics but it's also slower than dagger-dagger.

For Alistair I concentrate on the power moves like Cripple and Punisher, plus his templar and Champion talents which eat up a lot of levels, whereas my rogues get more of the rogue, stealth and archery talents.

Hm so I'm taking my rogue through the Mage Tower (so want to stab Wynne in the back). The blood mage who begs for her life, where you supposed to be able to recruit her into your party? I just told her to help me fight the darkspawn and to wait downstairs. What gives?

Shield Bash is sexy, too, and 2H has sexy finishing moves, but really to me it just doesn't compare.  If the other specs had faster attack, it would be fine, but... well, I'm preaching to the choir here.  Image IPB

I was going to save this for RDT but here's Alistair in riposte form.

It's an extra dialogue option you get with her as a blood mage.  Nothing comes of it.  I haven't looked to see if you see her in the final where the mages are heading off to war.

My rogues are usually dagger/sword and drop the dagger as soon as possible thinking I would get more damage. Maybe I will have to try the dual daggers if it's speedier.

Would've been pretty cool to have a blood mage NPC. I'm very surprised that Wynne didn't give me the lecture of a century when I decided to let her go.

According to the toolset you can also recruit her if your character has one of the more morally questionable specilizations, assassin or reaver.

It is speedier, and they can take down enemies faster with dual daggers.  I started out way back getting dual swords because they look badass, then sword/dagger, then I tried dual daggers and will never go back.  Dual swords for Alistair as DW, though!

What sort of romance would you all like to see in DA2? How can BioWare top Alistair?

I would want to see a hardened warrior archetype who's trust you have to earn. I wouldn't want the character to be a veteran, who you have to fix.

That sounds a little like the original concept for Alistair.

For a change, I'd like to see a character with a little more experience and self-confidence, but he'd still need a good sense of humor.

Not a derp, but Sylphe is practicing her eyebrow moves.

I just want a romance with someone who isint completely broken and clings to you so much.

Is it so much to ask for a NPC romance who can stand on their own, and exist as their own charachter with the PC to lean on?

Yeah I'll be getting back to class now.

I don't mind the verteran needing fixed, that's real life for me, I know a few of them, even my own husband has some lingering issues since he got home. I don't think they can top the Alistair or Zev romances in DA2,  and I really don't know what I want to see. I'm more afraid of what I will see, worried they'll "dumb it down" and take away the complications.
