I just want a romance with someone who isint completely broken and clings to you so much.
Is it so much to ask for a NPC romance who can stand on their own, and exist as their own charachter with the PC to lean on?

Yeah I'll be getting back to class now.

They should've made Nate a LI!

I like Nate, so dark... so stoic.

Serioulsy though my WC Elf mage was so mad that Nate was not interested in her.

I want a blokey bloke. Alistair is definitely "a guy" but needs a lot of hand-holding. No offence to him, he can be very sweet, but I want something a bit more rough and ready. More of a throw you on the ground and do you sort of bloke.

Dagger-dagger cunning rogue is the highest DPS build, so the build nerds say.  The key being damage per second and not only per hit- you just hit so fast, especially running Momentum, that you cut through things like butter.  (edit:  also because of high hit rate... I think my cunning rogue had 98 or 99 hit rate in Awakening)

Don't run Haste while using Momentum, though.  Apparently it nerfs you.

Know what I want? I always play female. And it drives me insane that the friendship dialog with male/male is better than male/female friendship. I want that equalized. As a female friends with Alistair is dull, there's no interaction past the standard questions. I want more friendship dialogs as the friend zone increases in approval.

Hm so I'm taking my rogue through the Mage Tower (so want to stab Wynne in the back). The blood mage who begs for her life, where you supposed to be able to recruit her into your party? I just told her to help me fight the darkspawn and to wait downstairs. What gives?

It's an extra dialogue option you get with her as a blood mage.  Nothing comes of it.  I haven't looked to see if you see her in the final where the mages are heading off to war.

Would've been pretty cool to have a blood mage NPC. I'm very surprised that Wynne didn't give me the lecture of a century when I decided to let her go.

She does comment, right?  Something about "I hope you know what you're doing" or whatever.

They need a STFU mod, made especially for Wynne, with one of those eyebrow-raises as the animation.

Agree with the tuppence. Would like someone with a bit more experience but similar sense of humour. Why does it either have to be someone who is suspicious of you (Carth) and a Templar virgin (well....not that I'm complaining hehe).
(Btw, does anyone else get the creeps when you're in the Fade and look up at the Black City?)

Edit: Cal's guy doesn't sound bad either. Throw you on the ground and do you made me laugh, but I agree it would be nice to have that kind of bloke as a romance as well.

Is there really such a big difference between female and Alistair and male and Alistair?

That sounds a little like the original concept for Alistair.

For a change, I'd like to see a character with a little more experience and self-confidence, but he'd still need a good sense of humor.

That's what i ment by hardened and not a veteran. Now your talking about Conceptstair too!:P

A sense of humor would be a bonus, i'm against a rigid sten-like love interest.

I like Alistair more with a male PC than a female. He does feel like a good mate. With a female, it just feels awkward if you're not romancing him.

I'm not sure it's possible for them to top Alistair in my book, first of all because I'd be playing a human PC- just isn't the same. But I also had no idea such a sweet romance could exist in videogameland, so Alistair's was a revelation and is going to remain in a class all its own I think.

Yeah there is. I watched my hubby play as a friend and it was much better than with my females in the friend zone. It's distant and kinda lukewarm. It sucks.

Hmm...That actually made me think of an on-topic question to throw out there. We all like to talk about our favorite origins and endings but... What does everyone think the best ending (and/or with what origin) is for Alistair?  Assume the warden is in a relationship with Alistair but put aside personal preference and only consider what is best for Alistair.

Of course I am going to go with hardened and ruling together with a HNF but I am always interested in all the different variations of opinion around here.

It really depends.  My favorite is ruling with a HNF, but she's the type of character that encourages that side of him as well.  In my head, there's a lot of RP about that which you simply can't do in game.  (Which is sort of irritating, honestly.  You're putting the man on the throne, you'd think there'd be at least a few lines where you can encourage him.)

Going by just what's best for Alistair, I'd say Warden w/ the woman he loves.  I can admit that, even though it's only my second favorite ending.  He's continuing to be what brought him so much happiness and pride and he's with/married to the woman he loves.  I don't how it gets much better for him.

What sort of romance would you all like to see in DA2? How can BioWare top Alistair?

I would want to see a hardened warrior archetype who's trust you have to earn. I wouldn't want the character to be a veteran, who you have to fix.

Hmmm, I don't know.  I think I'm pretty good with many options, though some are more appealing than others.  *looks surrepticiously at Nate*  Image IPB

If you're not romancing him? No, personally, I don't think so. Same with Leliana, if you make clear you just want to be friends it's pretty much same-ish. But I must admit it's great fun to have Leliana as a friend and have her make fun of you and Alistair.

Funny, I am actually female and I've kind of had my fill of 'blokey blokes' in games for some reason. I like a nice combination of hand-holding and sarcasm. For inventing Alistair I've almost forgiven Bioware for BG2 ;)

Er, btw, "throw you down and do you" sounds suspiciously like Oghren :0

This is exactly how I feel.

Alistair combined with throw you down and do you sounds good, too! Although in my rp's after the initial awkwardness he has no problem with that. Image IPB

Oddly enough Oghren basically said something about doing that with Sophia Dryden...creepy.

As for Friendistair/Female I just think there should be something between all (romance) and...well nothing.

Edit: why did quote not work I wonder?

I know I said king with HNF but on second thought, I think I agree with you. I was thinking the "be all you can be" type ending is best because he can reach his full potential. On the other hand, after everything he's been through in his life, maybe just being able to be with his love and have a life of their own making is better, without the politics and kingly headaches.

Heh, for reals?  I don't go to that scary place.  Image IPB  I kind of like it as an idea.  The begging for Loghain's life part gets to me when I picture it.  A political marriage between two mismatched people, which both give up on as a bad idea, but when he's at his lowest she shows she really cares about him and they end up with true affection and respect.  Trouble is, the romantic is killed for me if I think about what Loghain actually does in the game.  (edit:  It kind of reminds me of Sommersby, if you know that film.  Different circumstances, though.)

I see Anders as being a stand alone mature romance. Waste of a fine man not being able to romance him.

I promise to stick with my dwarf for awhile to stop the confusion, you're the third person who's said that today.

Haha! To quote Alistair's infamous line -  "I'm going to name one of my children after you, The Grumpy One!" ... and from those words, a new evil was born.

It is sweet but I guess because I'm old and grumbly I'm a bit over that.
Bioware tends to make romances with "nice" guys who usually have some sort of emotional baggage - (courtly knight with insecurity issues and dead sister), Carth (dashing pilot with dead wife, estranged kid and trust issues), Sky (dashing rogue with dead wife and kid...again...), Thane (dashing assassin with dead wife, estranged kid and terminal illness), Alistair (nice young bastard prince with dead mentor and confidence issues)... Kaiden at least didn't have any issues aside from the odd migraine, but I didn't really squee over anyone until Garrus. Probably because he's rather badass, but still has a sweet side, once you get past the damn calibrations (grrr).
