Grumpy, I like the way your dwarf looks!  He's very different from most male dwarves I see.  I guess it's because he has a little less facial hair?  He looks more handsome because you can see more of his face.

You know a game is great, when it can still surprise you after all the time.

Yes, I found that bit quite moving actually.  I had to engineer it since Zev always has high approval if the romance is on, and he'll never leave a friend (oh Zev I love you so much ).  Before he leaves he turns and shouts to the Crows that they have a choice too, they don't have to do this.  Gives me shivers.  When you think about what it took for him to realize that about himself....

Same here what concerns the Cousland stories, Addai. (Sorry to fans too) Though I find it even harder reading one without Alistair. Call me a crazy fangirl but I do have to have my fair share of Alistair in a story or I most likely will ditch it as 'meh' . Yeah I'm weird like that.

I read a bit of soignees' Zevran fic and I liked that.

He'll LEAVE you during that fight? I've never seen that!

Yes, romance has to be on and under 70 approval which is not easy to do.  I had to hold back on the boots til after.  He says a bit to the Crows before he leaves, as I mentioned, and you have quite a moving dialogue later at camp where he talks about Taliesin.  If you haven't seen it, you should, you should.

On-topic sparkly eyes!  Eren was very close to Zevran, too.  Very nearly went the other way in their little triangle, but Alistair got to her first.

I took only the Ostagar survivor companions. Alistair (duh), Wynne, and Dog.

Maybe we shouldn't have let Wynne eat that cabbage though...

Thank you tuppence.

I hate the beards!  I've tried to play a Human PC with one and he never made it out of Castle Cousland. My first male dwarf was atrocious, he ended up looking like across between Hoggle from the Labyrinth and Mel Brooks. This is my third attempt at recreating Berkin.

*raises hand*  Occasionally.   ;)

No problem if you're not into it.  Between the two of us, I think we would have been bored if it had been nothing but the same cast of characters we already knew... the world's just not that small.  But for the record, the final battle is indeed in progress and the end is in sight, so if you ever do want to stop back in and see what's come of this whole big crazy train, we're getting close!

Whoa didn't expect such an epically big thread for the Alistair love-in.

*ahem*

I have the biggest man-crush on Alistair, and being a straight man with a well documented love of the ladies, I can say that without any kind of embrassment or blushing. Okay maybe a little blushing.

I see alot of my Dad in Alistair, not the naive uncertainity, but the goofiness, sense of justice, and the complicated background/growing up. And so I have a real affinity for him. I've never had a brother and never understrood the whole "bromance" thing until DAO.

I've never made a female character who romanced a male character until now. I felt really bad having to shoo his advances so I could make it with Leliana and force him to bed Morrigan to spare our lives, so just recently I broke down and rolled up a noble, human rogue to romance his ass and stop his endless hurt puppydog faces he makes when shoot him down.

Although I think I just screwed myself out of a princess-consortship by not hardening him with the whole Goldanna debacle.

Anywho, I'm not one to really pick up related comics or novels, etc that expand on a game's universe, but I had to. I bought both DA novels so I find out more about Alistair's, in mind at the time, filandering king father. So it was a joy to find out his dad wasn't some horndog sonuva**** seducing chambermaids for sport, and that both his father and mother loved him but had to keep him apart and safe out of duty to their roles in the world.

And thus I blame David Gaider for making me happy to be banging a dude in game. Shame on him and his damn good stories and characters.

*ahem*

ANywho, uhh... just had to say that somewhere and uh... feel free to ignore this post and go about your dismembering business day.

What sort of romance would you all like to see in DA2? How can BioWare top Alistair?

I would want to see a hardened warrior archetype who's trust you have to earn. I wouldn't want the character to be a veteran, who you have to fix.

Sounds like Valen Shadowbreath from Hordes of the Underdark! Who in my opinion was the second best LI in a Bioware game, after Alistair of course. That voice...

Welcome Esbatty.

You may not know it but this is actually the second Alistair gush thread, they closed the first one down when it had reached just over 3,000 pages because we were gushing too much...

I'm just pointing this out so you realise that you're pretty normal... Well, as normal as the lot of us here straight and not, male and female.  Me, for example, I thought I was too old, too experienced to be hanging around a thread like this about a bunch of pixels, but Alistair is more than a bunch of pixels, he has a life of his own.

I know, I've just reached over 100,000 words writing fan fiction about him and I have never written a word of fiction before....

So I join you in cursing (and blessing) David Gaider.

Please feel free to hang and even join in, if you are so inclined.  We may be nutters but we're happy and that's what counts...

Welcome, Esbatty!

No need to blush about your man-crush on Alistair, my friend. This thread is a testament to his universal popularity.  Glad to have you add your name to the roster!!

If you want to experience a true bromance with Alistair, by all means try the "Equal Love" mod. While it's not 100% perfect (your male character will be referred to as female in some conversations and dialogue choices), if your male noble plays his cards right (and has a good persuade score) he can end up ruling with Alistair.

Should you want to give it a try the mod should be listed in the 'projects' section. If it isn't, give me a shout and I'll send it to you. The file I have uses the 7-zip program to extract it so you may need to get that first. --> www.7-zip.org . It's free so you should be set.

Hope this helps!

Awesome, totally expected to be ignored or ejected. Anywho, thanks for the welcome. I'll see about kicking around here a bit. I can't bring myself to write any DAO/ME fan fics because I can't even find time to work on my cyber novella I've been working on for the past few years due to work and, well, gaming, lol.

But I do enjoy reading other's fanfics. Its nice to see someone else's take on the world and denizens of Thedas.

And since I own a 360, I really can't mod my game, I believe. But I prefer to stick with my lady warden and Alistair romance as my only Alistair pairing even if I could. But thanks for the linkage and heads up! 'Tis appreciated.

...

I find that Alistair is deep down just like that rose that Leliana describes when she's wooing the warden. Inspite of his dickensian existence, he was born out of love in a dark time between two people who hurt so much that despite the odds... he came to be. And in the face of the trials and tribulations he can still see good out there and he is willing to fight for it. No matter the snark or self-doubt he says or feels.

Also, pure theory, thanks to damn book Stolen Throne, (curse you Gaider!), I have the feeling Morrigan and Alistair bicker is because... dun-dun-duuuuuuuuuuun... the Maric-Flemeth promise was the conception of Morrigan. Thus they've got a subconscious Oldier Sister-Little Brother antagonistic relationship.

okay so maybe, deep down, I do want to write some fanfic.

Just so you know, you are not alone....There are many accounts of straight males who have found Alistair quite endearing to say the least. One has to be a pretty darned good genius to create such an amazingly "perfect, vulnerable yet strong" man, and I am really glad that there are some men in the world who actually find respect aind admiration for a male character written in such a realistic and well balanced way as opposed to the typical hard hero womanizer or Alpha Male deluxe that so many men seem to find as excellent role models.

Welcome to the club. ;)

That's a pretty interesting theory!..but the first thing I thought about was the Death Ritual, where a baby would be created out of...ahem..incest...and if this indeed were the case, and to be expanded and regarded as a child out of incest, , would other endings, (such as Male PC) follow through?

If that is the case, the two of them having sex and conceiving a child... ewwww. Would the writers really go for something this tasteless?

I'm new here too, by the way. Having a weird, embarassing obsession with a videogame character in my late 20's was NOT something I saw coming, but it's nice to see that I'm not alone :)

Heh.  Well, hello!  Thanks for replying.

I will definitely start from the beginning and read the whole thing once you are done.  Yes, I can definitely understand wanting to expand and introduce new characters.  But you were doing such great things with the cast that we already knew.  Your very hardened Alistair is amazing.  And your Nate!  That one interlude ... *fans herself*  Whew, hot!
