Following in the footsteps of Addai and Lady Damodred, another morbid Alistair execution tale....

Oh no, more execution stories!  One day I'll be brave enough to read them, but I don't think I can handle them yet.

*Edited to add the rest of my responses in one.  And damn, I knew I should've done this to begin with, because now I've got ToP again.

Welcome Esbatty and Danitza!  Hope you both continue to join in here.  Esbatty, I hope someday Gaider will let us know about that promise that Maric made to Flemeth.  I hope your theory isn't right.  An inbred OGB would probably lead to some "interesting times" (in the old Chinese sense).

I think you can still marry him if you are a noble.  if you are a non noble, he won't keep you as a mistress.

Ugh. . .my mage just took her first major Alistair approval hit (first for any of my characters, actually) for letting Connor die and then not being apologetic about it in camp afterwards. I was prepared for Alistair hate with this character but it was still quite tough to pick those dialogue options, especially when I know which choices would have gotten me no disapproval or at least minimized the dislike. But in the interest of RPing this mage the way I envision her, I bit the bullet, said what I had to say, and accepted my -24. Then I immediately gave him his mother's amulet and listened with amusement as he thanked me and upbraided himself for being such an impulsive, immature, spoiled brat in destroying the amulet in the first place and then refusing to see Arl Eamon when he came to visit Alistair in the Chantry. He stood there bemoaning his childish temper and his inability to see the big picture, and then gave me only 6 approval points back. Sigh. . .

If I'm under 25 approval when we go to Denerim, will I still trigger the Goldanna visit?

If he's told you about her, yes. But you can't have the follow-up conversation with him until he's past 74 approval, and he won't be hardened until you do.

He has told me about her, but that's weird --in my previous playthroughs I've been at about 50 approval when we went to Denerim and I always got the follow-up conversation (the one with the "harden Alistair" dialogue option) immediately after leaving her house.. . .

You'll get the one immediately after you leave, but you have to do the confirmation conversation *after* that to cement the hardening.

And as far as fics go if Alistair in not in it, for the most part, I don't read it.

I'm the same way, which I feel kind of guilty about, because I know I'm missing out on some great work.

Conversely, I'll read just about anything that features Alistair as a main character, even if it isn't very well-written. I've found that the amount of bad I'm willing to tolerate in a fic is directly proportional to the amount of Alistair it contains. :)

I'm like that to an extent, but it depends on what the "bad" is.  Rough writing etc. is an ok bad- making Alistair OOC isn't.  Also the PC can't be too annoying.

Ah. Obviously, I've never hardened him. :P Might try it this time around, though, as that dialogue option might actually make sense RP-wise for this mage. Not sure I'll ever get to that 74 approval for the cement, however B) Thanks.

Whoa didn't expect such an epically big thread for the Alistair love-in.

*ahem*

I have the biggest man-crush on Alistair, and being a straight man with a well documented love of the ladies, I can say that without any kind of embrassment or blushing. Okay maybe a little blushing.

Aww, welcome!!!  You're not the only guy who sticks his head in here.  One of our favorite people, who did some of the sweetest Alistair romance mods, is a dude- tmp7704.  And there are a few others as well.

I see alot of my Dad in Alistair, not the naive uncertainity, but the goofiness, sense of justice, and the complicated background/growing up. And so I have a real affinity for him. I've never had a brother and never understrood the whole "bromance" thing until DAO.

I like your dad!

Although I think I just screwed myself out of a princess-consortship by not hardening him with the whole Goldanna debacle.

No, you can still marry him, you'll just be running the kingdom.  Lucky you?

Anywho, I'm not one to really pick up related comics or novels, etc that expand on a game's universe, but I had to. I bought both DA novels so I find out more about Alistair's, in mind at the time, filandering king father. So it was a joy to find out his dad wasn't some horndog sonuva**** seducing chambermaids for sport, and that both his father and mother loved him but had to keep him apart and safe out of duty to their roles in the world.

And thus I blame David Gaider for making me happy to be banging a dude in game. Shame on him and his damn good stories and characters.

*ahem*

ANywho, uhh... just had to say that somewhere and uh... feel free to ignore this post and go about your dismembering business day.

Yes!  I thought the same thing about Maric before reading the books and now he's a favorite character.  And I blame David Gaider for a lot of things, too, not least the sheer amount of hours I've spent fawning over his characters.

Also, pure theory, thanks to damn book Stolen Throne, (curse you Gaider!), I have the feeling Morrigan and Alistair bicker is because... dun-dun-duuuuuuuuuuun... the Maric-Flemeth promise was the conception of Morrigan. Thus they've got a subconscious Oldier Sister-Little Brother antagonistic relationship.

If that is the case, the two of them having sex and conceiving a child... ewwww. Would the writers really go for something this tasteless?

I'm new here too, by the way. Having a weird, embarassing obsession with a videogame character in my late 20's was NOT something I saw coming, but it's nice to see that I'm not alone :)

Welcome to you, too!  I'm in my late 30s.  *ahem*  This is the place to confess your embarrassing obsessions.  Image IPB  We get the occasional troll but have ways to deal with them.

I heart Morrigan forever, but I think Flemeth was showing Maric a vision of the Blights.  He seems haunted by this and it's why he's willing to risk his life to help the Wardens in TC and risk provoking a Loghain hissyfit by letting the order back into Ferelden.

Hehe! I spent a few hours making a darned tint for her Phoenix armor so it somewhat matched the WC plate too. Then found out it (the armor) won't work in awakening. Sad panda. But they looked impressive!

Yep. Got it all worked out rp wise too. Anora took the throne, Alistair said a hundred times he didn't want it, and after dealing with Tamlen, she had decided maybe he needed to confront his ghosts so the returned to Ostagar where it dawned on her, just like she lost HER clan going to Ostagar, HE lost his in the battle. She wouldn't take it away from him a second time (or herself at this point) by making him king. They'll accept the DR (well just visit Oghren beforehand, get blind drunk, and not remember it in the morning!),and  kill Archie. She'll request Gwaren as her boon. She's gained some political savvy over the journey. Taking the title, will give her and Alistair (let's assume they marry of course) a strong voice in the landsmeet, helping keep Queen Anora in check a bit. Giving not only the Wardens, but the Dalish a voice. A very strong voice. I suppose it would also mean the Dalish would have the surrounding area to use without conflicts with the humans of the town. Teyrn of Gwaren, Arlessa of Amaranthine, Commander of the Grey, Hero of Ferelden...not bad! And it gives me my reason to not have Alistair in Awakening. He has to handle Gwaren while I'm there.

I dont like how the "A lands and and riches" boon is worded.
My Dalish gave the Dalish a new homeland, and decided to go help them set up. With Dog, Leliana, and Zevran in tow.

I know that the Dalish got lands anyway, but hearing how happy that one person was worth it.
