Poor KoP. Your head is going to explode. You know you can still say KoP things as log as the topic is Alistair, right. And with that, I will leave you. It's past my smut threshold around here today. ;)

For some reason, I lost the motivation and interest to say KoP things.
But thanks for allowing me to Posted Image

EDIT: stupid ToP

Alistair will ease my pain.

He eases everyone's pain.  I went to go get the pics for Axekix, got Fraps loaded up, found the save I wanted and...there was Grumpistair, who, while delicious, would not work for axe's screenies.  Had to exit out and go change morphs.

Hmmm, I want to discuss something about Alistair, but not sure what.  Any suggestions?

G'day, Ladies and Gentlemen. Congrats on your new and shiny thread. Was the headline supposed to be Ali Revisited, Revived, Resisted or Revised? (Currently misspelled as "The Alistair Gush Thread Revisted: *Squee*")

Lady Damodred: What about Ali as The Reluctant Hero/Prince? Or have you already exhausted that theme?

KoP: Happy Ramadan! Live long and prosper.

How about a discussion on why you picked Alistair as a romance.  I think be becuse of his whitty one liners and over all niceness.  I just remeber thinking there needs to be something more then just jokes and when you dig down there is so much there.  He just is so dang sweet you need an insulin shot to be around him.  Just my thoughts.

an idea on Alistair... how do you set his tactics and Specialties?
what's your favorite armor and/or weapon of choice for Ali? ("a fashion show ".... Leli squees)
what's your favorite area with Alistair (not including camp which is probably my favoritePosted Image)-- Ostagar, Redcliff, etc.

so far this is my favorite armour on Alistair.. I'll have to look up the mod for it (don't remember.. so many you know)Posted Image  It's called Knight Commander but can't find the file, it has decent stats without being over-powered..

2 discussions, eh? Hmmm.

Alistair as "The Reluctant Hero/Prince". He is totally reluctant to be a prince, specifically because of his upbringing, and unhardened is reluctant to be king. I think it goes without saying that hardened Alistair is both a much better and a much happier king, regardless of whom is married/not married to.

As for being a reluctant hero? I'm not sure. He's reluctant to lead, yes, because of all the self-doubt he harbors. But he likes helping people. I'd say he enjoys being a hero, just not the one leading the little band of heros.

Why did I choose Alistair in the first place? I think the better question might be: why do I keep coming back? Simple answer, I find the man absolutely irresistable. His witty one-liners, his personality, his adorable lower lip, his voice...

Yeah, I'll just be over there *jerks thumb* for a little while.

Good morning, here's an Ali smile to start the day.

On another subject...could y'all make sure to credit any DevART artists in your posts, and include a link to the artwork. Thanks, it sometimes is a bit disconcerting to find your artwork (in my case, photos) in odd places, without credit or a link.

I meant "Reluctant Hero" as a stereotype or a meme, if you like, so rampant in the fantasy genre everywhere. Like King Arthur iirc in at least T.H. White's rendition or, say, Belgarion in the stories of the Eddings couple.

As a protagonist, (lets put the PC aside for a while) who will meet and fight her/his inner demons and finally gets in terms with her/his redeeming virtues or even gives up at first, only to reappear stronger. Even Frodo (LotR) might be seen falling into that category.

As to the "hardening", I personally found it at least somewhat constrained plot/game device, it could have been far more subtle, spanning the whole game. Or maybe it could be seen as the straw that broke the camel's back. My personal opinion really - and a narrow one at that.

He does fall into that stereotype, somewhat. Though I'd like to think he always retain a little bit of that insecurity that makes him so concerned about what's best for people.

I would have loved for the hardening process to be handled betetr. We already know how it's present in game is a result of too much editing. And I suspect if it was a multistep process, some people would have gotten very sick of it. I mean, jeez! Why can't he just be told one thing and completely turn around 21 years of being told certain things? Sheesh!

Yes, you're spoilered now if you're reading along, but Idun gets a happy ending.  "For a time," to use Bioware's weasel phrase.  LOL

And indeed it is Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image despite having 3 times more Anora in the endgame and Awakening than anyone should have to see.  Though seeing Anora together with Rylock last evening, I was inspired to think Anora might have found true love.

I think all stories based on The Hero's Journey archetype have a reluctant hero, although what qualifies as reluctance can change. The classic way of doing it is to have the hero unsure of him/her self, and coming to terms with whatever plagues them, but it an also be that they are unfit in some way, say, incapable and need to become more capable (ie Chuck), or bad and need to be redeemed, or something else.

Alistair being a hero:

Re. reluctant hero, on his blog Steve Valentine sums up Alistair's character with exactly that phrase. Either that was actually in his VO character summary or it was the impression he took away.

Yes, I stalk SV. A little.

Heh.  I'm not as bad as Sandi!! Posted Image

Seriously, Alistarians are lucky that our boy has a VA who's as responsive and all-around awesome as SV is.  He makes stalking fun.

And everyone just go on and admit it.  The bottom dropped out of DAO the first time you heard "Maker's breath, you're beautiful."

My life changed...  I'd loved games before because they were great, but this was the first time I realised a game could be AWESOME for women.

A great deal of the fun, at least for me, is to make a catch, i.e. recognize a turned-upside-down or cleverly modified stereotype in the game - or in literature generally.

For example in http://en.wikipedia....cles_of_Prydain the protagonist had an "honorable" occupation: An assistant pig-keeper. I'm not sure, whether he found himself to be of regal ancestry either. Alistair being thrown into the dog kennel reminded me of that children's book series somehow.

My first 4 playthroughs were on the xbox and I haven't yet finished any on the PC. On the xbox ,Alistair always thinks he is king even if you crown Anora. As frustrating as it was for Alistair to continually refer to himself as king, I am not really looking forward to the extra Anora bits my mage will have to deal with for her GW ending.

I think I first realized that potential when I played KoToR. I thought Carth Onasi was a stellar LI and a good precursor to the awesomeness that is Alistair.

House is hardly an obscure TV show!  And SV was really good in it too! And it's my duty to let all the Hearties know about his amazing voice on TV, isn't it?  I mean, SV!  Voice!  Sounds like Alistair!  Though personally he isn't anywhere near as good-looking....but that's just me.

I have to admit, by the time I got past Anora and then had Varel saying that Idun was the only living Warden in Ferelden, I wanted to break something.

I hadn't planned to take Idun over at all, but I wanted to see how the Dalish mage mod would carry over.
